  1. The only embarrassing thing would be if they don't blow away every other offer for him. That's the only thing that matters ultimately, not all these guys on 1 year deals making pennies.
  2. Sign a bunch of shitty 30+ year olds Claim they were all in on Manny and Harper but just couldn't afford them
  3. How? If that were the case we should be hearing "Manny leaning towards Sox/Philly due to money" to try and get the Yankees offer up.
  4. As long as it comes out he took a 50m+ paycut to go to NYY. Can't support this team if the money was equal from Sox/Yankees.
  5. I assume it's due to these massive TV deals forbidding it? If that is the case then I don't see it happening any time soon unless they're able to go market by market as the TV deals expire...but then at that point the TV deals may not be as massive if they don't get a monopoly on the games. A real catch 22
  6. "Bryce, we're signing Manny it will be announced Saturday. We'll keep quiet if you want to try to use us as leverage, but you have our offer"
  7. So I wanna not believe you hard, your post count is high enough to not be insta-troll, but I still refuse to believe good things can happen.
  8. Yeah if by some miracle you got JR to crack the piggy bank for BOTH guys it also has to mean 160m+ payrolls for a while.
  9. "Substantial" and "Market Rate" are 2 very different things. If it comes out that they were knowingly cheap on their offer I'm done with this team till Reinsdorf sells
  10. I dunno, I'm kinda worried about the dynasty the Sox just handed the Indians by relieving that pile of money originally meant for Alonso.
  11. Its laughable how 9 million dollars is somehow going to save Cleveland and allow allow them to sign 3 studs and also sinking the Sox and crushing the rebuild due to the financial burden. Desperate for some real news
  12. ..and give that money back to the billionaire owner? These arguments sound like the choices are make 300m or fund public schools. The players should get as much money as possible that the owners print every year. Sports: where people get mad at millionaires for taking money away from billionaires.
  13. What was Avi expected to get? If it wasn't crazy I woulda liked to see if he could get hot for a couple months then flipped
  14. Unless he comes without touching any of our top prospects but I don't see that happening. The only shot at Bryce/Machado is simply: We offer the absolute most money by a wide margin and they buy into Hahns vision of the team - which includes the ability to trade for guys from the deep farm system. Nothing else matters IMO.
  15. Who though? Sell the farm to trade for some of those guys for the small chance that Bryce comes here?
  16. I'm spinning bright side on this for now: You either had to fire him or extend him, can't have a lame duck manager. So the plan is a cheap extension with the plan to fire him whenever.
  17. I saw Donaldson make 1 throw in the playoffs and put him in the 'back' category. I'd take him on a 2 year all day
  18. You think they would push the luxury tax threshold? If we're an actual contender maybe we go up to 150ish, but I see 0% chance we ever come close to hitting the tax. I was originally all in on Machado, but after watching him in the playoffs he really seems like a "sign 300m deal and immediately get fat" kinda guy to me.
  19. Thank god. I could see the argument for Kopech (needing more starts) even though I think it should have been a month earlier. But absolutely no reason to lose a year of Eloy for < 2 months of games in a lost year.
  20. What reason was Bryant given? Its all bs. Everyone knows it's bs. But they still have to make up the bs.
  21. Because it's not a "punishment". Its a smart business decision, I don't understand the confusion around this. Hahn (or any GM in the league) can't openly state "we're keeping Eloy down for an extra year of control" even though everyone knows that's the reason so getting mad that they don't do that is super weird. This is and always has been the MLBPA's fault. They've been selling out their young talent for decades so that 32 year olds on steroids could sign massive deals. The steroids are gone and teams finally stopped giving away those deals so now all players are screwed. They need to fix the CBA and give more money to their younger guys, but until then teams should be using every advantage they can to keep young cheap talent around.
  22. Missing nothing. It's a terrible idea. Calling Eloy up before the extra year at this point should be a fireable offense
  23. Knowing the sox they'll wait till 8pm to call the game. Gotta make sure to take advantage of 30k people buying a few beers then refill on Wednesday.
  24. Rainout tonight = Kopech Wednesday? *edit - bit late. Just need a reason for Kopech to move to Wed as I can't make tomorrow
  25. Proving that kind of move is a massive risk. If we don't have a solid staff by 2020 & need to drop a hundo on a free agent 'ace' with Rodon/Kopech/Cease/Lopez/Gio/Dunning/Hansen then the rebuild kinda sucked.
