That just helps... The more people down there, whether or not they're 100% behind the anti-war sentiments, just makes a bigger crowd... The whole world is watching. Yeaaaahhhh.. Like how it looks when Wrigley is filled Kinda like how when something happens in the neighborhood and the news manages to find the dumbest, ugliest, toothless ignorant half dressed person, with rollers in their hair, that uses the word "aint" 12 times in one sentence, to interview as an "expert" on the situation I'd rather have 1000 intelligent protesters than 5000 dumbasses out there. It was national news for Pete's sake. And there behind Peter Jennings were idiots waving to the camera and talking on cell phones... Idiots. There will be idiots everywhere, anyways. The American media loves to find the stupidest jackasses from both side of the political spectrum and give them air time. It makes for riling people up and keeping them glued to the TV. Why do you think guys like Jerry Falwell and Pat Robertson keep finding their way on television? And no, it doesn't have anything to any intelligent commentary they bring to the table.

If the city and the police weren't ready for this protest, then they're complete idiots since these protests have been in the works for about a month now.

I don't ever remember things being this bad during Kosovo.

McDonald's have been a "hot-spot" for violence all over the world, not just France. This one's from Ecuador.

you sound like believe past coalitions wernt built on favors and sweetners , bribes whatever...france did the same thing ..going to africa and bribing the 3 african countries on the security counsel to vote with them...but you count them in your coalition of the unwilling when you say the whole world is against us In most of these countries who are "with us," it's only the governments. Anti-war feelings are running rampant in many nations... the UK, France, Germany, Turkey, etc. The only reason these governments are with us are the sweetners and/or because they're scared to death of what could happen to them if they oppose the US machine. Not the basis of a strong alliance, I might add.

How did he look? Such a shame... So much talent lost to injury.

OK, first I don't appreciate being called a dumbass. I could have rattled off a list of insults in this thread but I have restrained myself. Second, I have documented proof that states the Sears Tower was never a target. You merely have your own opinion. Find me something that definitely states the Sears Tower was a terrorist target and then we'll talk about that. And again, I still say that if something were to go down, the protestors only help because they draw a much larger crowd of cops and fire fighters to the downtown area than would be there on a regular day. Regardless, like cwsox said, there are all sorts of things that happen in Chicago that require a large police force. I don't see you calling for them to be cancelled because the terror alert is red or whatever.

This is so ridiculously stupid... The U.S. has roughly 5% of the world's population (275,000,000 of 6,500,000,000). Whether or not you like to believe it, if it was a case of the world vs. the US, we would get whooped. Unfortunately, until we have a population to rival India's we sort of have to play along with everyone 'cuz we all live on this planet. We got into all this mess because we thought we could do whatever the hell we wanted.

Ummmmmmmmmmmm... The Sears Tower wasn' ever a target. No, its never empty, but the terrorists we're used to dealing with struck the WTC and Pentagon in the early morning for a reason. That's when they're most full of people. That, and I really don't think that having cops and fire fighters sitting around doing nothing (as opposed to being downtown, a few blocks from the building) would really decrease the death count by thousands and thousands if someone ever did hit the building. That, and the structure of the Sears Tower is much sturidier than the WTC. You're just straining to make excuses as to why the war protests are a bad idea. I suppose a meteor could come crashing to the Earth and destroy the Loop and it would be the protestor's fault all the cops and fire fighters died because if there was no protest they wouldn't be there. Or Godzilla could emerge from Lake Michigan. Or vicious, violent aliens could attack Chicago.

1) No one is going to attack a building like the Sears Tower at night when the thing's damn near empty. 2) If someone hijacks a plane and plans on flying it into the Sears Tower, all the cops in the world on the ground probably won't be able to do jack s*** about it, anyway. In fact, all having these protests do is get all the cops in the area downtown, so, I will take the other side and say that they make the ST safer in that there are 2 or 3 times as many cops and fire fighters in the area than what would be there usually. 3) If a terrorist actually put together an elaborate plot to destroy the Sears Tower in the matter of HOURS in which this protest took place he would set the world record for for terrorism by weeks. Let's think people.

I think you just hit the nail on the head.... Just be glad you didn't go to private, Catholic school for 13 years.... Unless you did, in which case this post is irrelevant.

That was real sweet... I wish I had gone.

The only thing the Bible says is that killing is wrong unless it's done in self-defense. This leads to a gray area... In this case, where the US believes Iraq to be a threat to world peace, is that threat good enough to qualify Americans killing Iraqis are self-defense? However, since I think the Bible is 99% horses*** I probably couldn't care less about what it says.
-
Jesus Christ... Do you know how much that would cost? We already spend $322 billion on national defense, how much more do you want?

Serving in the military isn't the only way to give back to the US of A. (EDIT: Just read that baggio said this in a later post... My bad).

This was probably said, but the reason that the Sox are projecting so many ticket sales is for the All-Star Game. Reinsdorf is a pud and is a horrible owner. He's done very little to promote winning in his 20 years here.

Both Dallaero and Dalesandro have, at one point or another, been called to Chicago.
-
Depends on who you ask... Conservatives will tell you its to oust a threat to world peace and liberate the Iraqi citizens... Liberals will tell you its nothing but either a popularity stunt, personal vendetta, or economic move by Dubya. As for me, I don't see any point to this at all. Even when we do oust Saddam, I don't see how we're going to keep at least some of the Iraqis from resorting to the exact same regime in 10-15 years.

Forgive me but i have no idea what that stat is.... some insight plz? They're stats from Baseball Prospectus... Kind of hard to explain without getting really long-winded... MLV (Marginal Lineup Value) is a way of measuring a player's productivity. It essentially states how a lineup of 8 average players and the player in question would compare to a lineup of 9 average players. MLVr translates MLV to a rate of production. To give you an idea of average MVLr's for certain players, here are some examples from 2002... Barry Bonds... .955 Sammy Sosa... .395 Magglio Ordonez... .360 Josh Paul... -.254 Essentially, a positive MLVr indicates a player who performed above league averages and a negative MLVr indicates a player below league averages. PECOTA is way harder to explain. It's a new system of statistically project players. I would encourage everyone to get Baseball Prospectus 2003.... Really is the must-have for die-hard baseball fans, IMO.

Here's 5 bucks that says in 10-15 years from now we have the exact same problem except with a different psychopath running Iraq.

Fatigue, or playing like s***, you decide. Apparently doublem(oron) knows more than all the espn folks who follow this stuff like it's their job...oh wait it is...if you think you are proving some great point, you aren't, as we all know you aren't above espn, though you seem to think you are. Now that's hilarious Dude... Half the posters here are more intelligent than ESPN writers. Get a clue, my god. Big ego buddy? Reality. I'm much more willing to accept the opinions of most of the posters here than I am the guys who work at ESPN.
