  1. If I was stuck playing for f***in' Reinsdorf my whole career, I'd probably not care too much about the team either.
  2. Or you could just got to the Como at Milwaukee, just south of Grand Ave.

    Amazing Site

They are considering making him chancellor of Oxford, I here... They love Slick Willy out there.
  4. OBP... Most important baseball statistic.
  5. I agree... This is tame for some of us.
  6. In August 1964, two U.S. destroyers, the USS C Turner Joy and USS Maddox were in the Gulf of Tonkin, off the coast of Vietnam and they reported that they had been fired upon by North Vietnamese torpedo boats. Because of this "attack," Congress allowed President Johnson to, "take all neccessary steps, including the use of armed forces defend their freedom." This allowed Johnson to escalade the conflict into a full-blown war until 1970 (with Richard Nixon in office) when evidence surfaced that the Johnson administration conspired to decieve Congress into giving him a resolution to carry out war. Most historians today agree that the two destroyers weren't hit by torpedos, but probably by dolphins... If anything. http://campus.northpark.edu/history/WebChr...GulfTonkin.html That site has a pretty good little explanation about the whole thing, though, it pretty much says what I just did, but elaborates on the whole thing a little bit more than I'm able to remember right now. On a side note, that whole story sounds a little familiar.
  7. To add to that, it's not like today where tarriffs and such can be easily monitored. Just because an act was passed didn't mean that the British in the colonies cracked the whip and enforced everything. The colonists were doing a great deal of smuggling.
  8. I don't care how you lean politically, you still can't be serious is you're comparing America's situation in Vietnam with France's in World War II. Apples and oranges. Im not comparing the two and Im truly sorry if I led you to believe that. Im just saying why should we help other countries when they would never help us. Who put us in charge of that? Well, as we all know, France did help us, so there goes that point. And the only reason we've ended up in any other war isn't because we wanted to help out others, its because we've either been attacked (War of 1812, World War II, Spanish-American-Filipino-Cuban War (probably didn't get attacked, but we thought we did), Vietnam War (though we all know now the Gulf of Tonkin incident never actually happened)) or we felt threatened enough to engage in combat (World War I, Persian Gulf War, Korean War)... The United States has never entered combat solely to "lend a hand."
  9. That's kind of debatable. At the rate the Revolutionary War was going and the inability of the British to overwhelmingly defeat the Americans there is a school of thought that suggests that the British would have just given up after the war became too costly and time consuming. Not saying I agree with this... I don't think we could have won without France, either... I doubt George would have ever let a colony get away without absolute surrender. But to say that anyone who thinks we could have "won" without France is uniformed, isn't entirelty true, IMO.

  11. No one thought the 2000 team was going anywhere, either. Stranger things have happened. And its waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too premature to be saying that this team has no chemistry. They haven't even reported to Spring Training yet fer'chrissake.
  12. I think the only defense of KW there is that during the labor negotiations last year, it was looking like compensation for lost FAs was going to be abolished. Still... Adkins? What the f***?
  13. That's why we're so low... We're really thin at the top now and very bottom heavy, but I will give KW credit that he's doing an amazing job rebuilding the system from the bottom up.
  14. Disturbed has gotten weak since they went big... If you'd only have seen them in Chicago before they went big... They were great... I think I saw 'em at Champs, once. But that was a while back.
  15. What wars have we gotten ourselves into that's warranted anyone coming to our aid?
  16. Thanks cw. What year was it? I thought it was 1946 but I guess Im wrong. All I know is that somewhere around there France was in deep s*** and helped them out. And Im definitely going to join the military. Im just not sure what branch. Marines or Army? Either of those two would be fine with me... It was 1945 and if you're going to mention that the United States saved France's ass, you should also mention the Soviet Union, who were most instrumental in the Allied victory in World War II. If Hitler wasn't a moron and invaded them, all of Western Europe would still be speaking German.
  17. We don't owe France f***ing s***. Ever heard of the Revolutionary War, dumbf***? Jesus Christ, you are narrow-minded. I'd say that the United States more than made up for any help that France afforded us in the Revolutionary War as evidenced by the nine US Armed Forces Cemetaries in France with at least 10,000 dead American soldiers buried just during WW's I and II. Karko isn't as narrow-minded as you think my friend. We also helped rebuild the entire European Economy after WWII and didn't ever ask for a dime of that money back. Well... Kinda... We gave out a lot of money, but all that money was just used to buy American-made products to rebuild Western Europe, so, we did get it back.
  18. Naw, that link has been on the WSI boards for like a week now.
  19. But that's all relative... Whether or not you and I think we give them enough aid, we're not about to jump in a plane and fly it into a building. I suppose that's my point. I don't want to put words in your mouth, but it sounds like you are saying that the fact that they flew planes into our buildings proves their own attitudes towards us to be true. I hope I misunderstood that. That would without question be the most ignorant, arrogant, and flat out illogical thing I've ever heard. I'm not saying anything is true or false. My point is that whether you think it is unfounded or not, we are stereotyped by the rest of the world as self-centered, greeedy bullies and that is something we desperately need to improve. Do I think we've ever done anything so bad we deserve to be subjected to terrorist attacks? Hell no... That's ridiculous. However, do I think we're so good and wonderful that I shouldn't speak out against what I don't like? Nope... I'm somwhere in between.
  20. A Dixie cup of everclear can kill some people... Thats s***'s like 200 proof.

    Iowa

I think of the University of Iowa 'cuz I have a few friends there and my uncle went there, so I am a psuedo-Hawkeye fan now. Other than that, it's no worse nor better than the rest of this crappy state sans the preppy suburbs.
  22. I wouldn't buy an SUV if it was tax deductable... Gas is a b****. That and I kind of try to avoid flipping over. And while I'm out buying an SUV I may as well go kick some puppies.
