I agree with Heather... They had a thing they gave to the students at Bradley and said that even if you devote your time to going to every class and studying/working two hours for every hour your in class (like you should), then on a 15 semester hour schedule, you should still have 49 hours of free-time, enough to hold a job down to make some cash and enough time to screw around and piss it all away.

Jon Rauch has been tearing it up at Charlotte recently. I wouldn't mind seeing him given a chance when he gets called up in September. Of the list provided, just based on baseball talent, Livan Hernandez is unquestionably the best, especially if you're looking for a guy with postseason experience. Big ass salary, though. That, and he'd be an NL pitcher coming here and they don't have the best track record of success (see Navarro, Jaime; Ritchie, Todd; and White, Rick as references).

Some people just don't like others for no real reason (or, they think they have a real reason, and then it turns out they really don't). No sweat off your back. And, most studies show that the guys who throw around the words, "Homo", "f*****", etc. are, themselves, to insecure with their own sexuality (whether it be hetero or homo) and are just trying to show everyone how much of a "man" they are. I think a perfect example comes straight out of the movie Cruel Intentions. If you've seen it, you know what I'm talking about. Anyways, man, don't be so preoccupied with the goons that don't like you. That's a fact of life, no matter where you go or what you do there will just be pricks along the way that are so pathetic they get pleasure from just not liking people. Who cares? Man, if you spend all your time worried about the folks that don't like you, how are you supposed enjoy your time with the people who do? If I had a dollar for every worthless, piece of s*** (of course, that is only my opinion ) that has a problem with me, I'd be incredibly wealthy. Yet somehow, I'm very content with my life.

I might. But I think I have a night class Tuesdays and if not, I'm sure I'll be able to find something a little better to do with my time. Just rent and watch, Any Given Sunday, and I'm sure you'll get the gist of the show.

That movie is unbelievable. I've watched it about 10 times already, and everytime I do, I find something else. And not just horses*** garbage (like the word SEX appearing in "The Lion King" for a fragment of a second when Simba sits down), but something actually intriguing.

I'm a sophomore at Bradley University (yes, I know... Stop laughing), but we NEVER EVER get out for bulls*** holidays. Hell, we don't even get the real ones off... School during Labor Day? My best advice is (if you're so inclined), join a club sport. They're really fun and a good way to meet some people. I play ultimate frisbee for BU and it's a blast, plus a good way to keep me exercising as opposed to my natural state of watching Sportscenter on the futon with a strange goo-ey mixture of Cheez-Ball dust, melting chocolate, Coca-Cola, and saliva running down the side of my mouth. College is fun.
-
My only words of consolation is if your high school is anything like mine, they rarely fail the guys in honors and AP. I essentially did nothing my senior year even though I had AP American Government, AP Spanish IV, AP British Literature, Honors Pre-Cal (or some other ridiculously useless math class), Honors Economics, and a handful of other classes I can't remember. I think I had some sort of Moral Philosophy and Physics thrown in there somewhere.

Only if you're lucky enough not to pay for it. The biggest reason high school was fun was that I didn't need a job to help the parental units pay for tuition, but college is a wee-bit more expensive. It's still a blast though, and I highly recommend to anyone who has the means to get the hell out of your house for college. As for high school.. Bla... I had fun, did things I'm "not supposed to," and made some good friends, but damn, there's not enough money in the world to make me live those 4 years over again. Thank God that's done with. Oh, and high school girls are, for the most part, manipulative b****ES (though, some don't change that much afterwards, either).

I think she meant 13 hours of driving, unpacking, and setting up combined. Or she took the most inconvienent route imaginable.

Is there really that big of a difference between a 2-run lead in the 7th and a 2-run lead in the 9th? Maybe I read the article wrong, but man, it sounds like the author wants us to believe there us.
-
No they weren't, but the position he plays is...
-
I can kind of agree with that on Cotts, but I figure Adkins got called up so not to waste options on other, better pitchers prematurely.
-
Nah, he was more of a throw-in. The A's are smart and probably understand that there's no such thing as a "relief pitching prospect." And the best pitcher in the system is Honel, not Cotts.

Still listening to JLo and TimberFlake ? s***, I'd rather be put through Chinese water torture than have to listen to Metallica. :puke

It depends on where you are. The older part of town (downtown, inner city, South Side, and "The Hill"), where we live is set up pretty nice. Once you get used to it that is... They tried real hard to make a good grid and, for the most part, succeeded. That said, the newer parts (NW side of town, northern suburbs) are about as ass-backwards as you can get. No one put any urban planning thinking into it. Actually, it kind of reminds me of Chicago, on a much smaller scale. The city, for the most part, is laid out on a nice, practical grid while half the suburbs couldn't get any more ridiculous if they tried. The only real problem around BU is that you can't drive through some side streets because about 1/2 of them have raised, diagonal "flowerbeds" completely across some intersections. But those are there to cut down on the drive-by shootings in the neighborhood, so I guess I shouldn't complain that much.
-
Not a horror story... Bradley is just so small that we got there a little later than they recommended and the place was packed. That, and they made you take the ass backwards way into campus (they closed off the convienent entrance for I-74 users), so essentially, it took us about an hour to go 4 city blocks. But other than that, it was all good. Personally the 8 days until I get to move back can't go by soon enough.

Because people like to show off their "knowledge" of the Sox farm system by asking why "The Man" is holding down a guy hitting .300 in AAA?
-
The White Sox don't "think outside the box." Plus, the best option would be go with Wright and Schoenweis because Scott is a lefty.
-
When a hitter has a hitter's count.
-
Tony, you're missing, "He's in the catbird's seat" from your list of Hawkisms.
-
I think we're forgetting something essential to college...
-
Well then someone f***ed up (doubtless the same person that traded Foulke for Koch). The Sox front office has limited baseball knowledge, as far as I can tell. And there is the separation. I don't think the bigwigs behind the scenes for the Sox really have any idea what they're doing (at least they're playing Crede regularly). You, apparently, like to think they're clued in on baseball. To each his own. And this little "rant" has absoletuly nothing to do with Cotts' MLB debut. Unless he threw a perfect game, I'd still say he should be in AA getting more seasoning. :fthecubs Works for me!
-
No, but 35 walks in 65 innings apparently is I'd love to know how you think you know when a guy is ready for the majors. It's not an exact science. If it was you'd never, ever see guys have bad first outings would you. I also didn't know one start is enough to determine whether or not he's ready Man, you're just not listening. The guy's just not ready. How anyone could have thought he was ready with all those walks is ridiculous. I don't know where you recall me saying Dan Wright is anything special, all I've said is he's better than Neal Cotts right now. You're the one that's been throwing around words like "phenomenal," etc. Wright is nothing. Cotts is less than nothing (as an MLB pitcher right now). Get it yet? Why must everyone make stuff that's so easy into quantum physics?
-
56 walks in 106 IP is not "phenomenal." And the vast majority of guys who "aren't ready for the big leagues" aren't ready for the big leagues. Cotts is not ready for the big leagues. Give him time.
-
Dan Wright? #1 starter? Your words, not mine. Wright > Cotts... Anyone could have told you that well before Cotts' SIX WALK-MLB debut. Why is that such a hard concept to beat into your skull? I never said I love Wright, just if I had to pick between him an a AA starter not ready for the bigs, the choice should obvious.
