Or they couldn't believe that they were being offered one of the best closers in baseball (plus a left-handed hitting catcher, to boot) for a gimmick fastball pitcher. The A's a masters at this. They screwed the Cardinals with Isringhausen in the exact same way... They pumped up the guy's saves, made him a hot commodity, and then dumped him onto the biggest buyer (who, this time, happened to give them a good pitcher).

What did Gload do to deserve a chance? He's behind 2-4 guys on the depth chart at any position he can play. He (and Aaron Miles) are duds.
-
Oh yeah, and Danny Wright is the answer? Hindsight is 20/20 Um, if you watched the game, you may have noticed Danny Wright pitched about 1000x better than Neal. And I've been on the "Don't bring Cotts up" bandwagon for a while now. The guy's a nothing right now, needs to work in the minors... No sense in rushing a kid who could have a bright future when Dan Wright can't pitch any more miserably than he did.
-
Um, you just can't "send down" Daubach because he'd have to clear waiver first, and there's no way a pennant contender would pass up on him. Ross Gload? He's a dud. Where's the "Who cares?" option?
-
Anyone with 1 functioning brain knew that Cotts wasn't/isn't ready for the big leagues (that walk total in AA is a red flag the size of Delaware)... Too bad we have a monopoly on clueless management. "Neal Cotts has a low ERA at Birmingham? He must be ready for the big leagues!"

That is the best thing ever. Better than like what? 99.9% of original Metallica crap, anyway.

True, but Illinois State University didn't don that name for years after it's inception, IIRC

Roman negatively commenting on someone else's sex life. Fun with irony!

Commenting is one thing (looks like it was a good time, etc.), laying blame is another... I should have been more clear... I apologize.

Well if she doesnt, someone could die. I stand by you in that the next time she does this, you wont let her drive. Thats admirable... But it begs the question...why didn't she stop her from driving the first time? I realize Steff isn't her mommy and that Heather is an adult, but she was (by the sounds of it) very unfit to be driving. As a friend (or hell, even a fellow human being), why not say "You know what, you've had too much to drink", take the keys, and call her a cab. Seems like a no-brainer to me. :fyou Clu.. but there was 40+ people there. I could not keep my eye on everyone... and as it happened Henry did take her to his place so she did not drive for 4+ hours after she stopped drinking. This conversation, as usual, has turned into a complete waste of time. Have a wonderful evening... 1) I think its pretty ridiculous of someone to comment on an event when they were not personally present and 2) I think it's incredibly ridiculous to pick out Steff as the only one who had the power to stop Heather at a gathering of like 50 people.

Borchard is still the man... He's had a wrist problem all year (and that makes swinging a bat pretty damn hard), so this year is kind of moot. He'll be fine. Reed is also a stud. Someone clone him. I like Nanita, but he's only been playing pro ball for a couple months. We'll see. I also liked Micah Schurnstein (sp?) a lot, but he's apparently fallen off the face of the Earth. And hey, we're so thin with hitters, I'll put Casey Rogowski on my list because I know his cousin and he's a good guy. (In reality, I'd have put Yan here... I like him. He's got what this team don't have... Speed). Pitchers... Rauch is still #1... I've seen him pitch when healthy and he's flat-out dominant. I think he may bounce back next year (hopefully). Man, that would be a nice arm to add to the rotation. Kris Honel... Ha ha, I got a hit off you! :finger Neal Cotts... Like him, just walks to many god damn people. And we know how that ends up Ryan Wing... Sure.
-
something tells me that a few people may take offense to that Apu Yeah, but if they went to I Screwed Up, I don't think they'll figure it out.

If there was a smiley face hitting a nail on its head, I would use it here.

Jesus... The guy's ERA last year was 3 1/2 in a more hitter-friendly park than Comiskey/U.S. Cellular Field. He'd be ahead of all but 1 of our starters with an ERA like that. No one's saying he was a huge hit with the Sox, but to say he sucks is utterly absurd.

At the game on Wednesday, while a fat ass Royal-booster behind me wasn't shoving food down his mouth, he kept calling Joe Randa, "The Joker." Maybe a local nickname?
-
That's not entirely true. Granted, he was drafted pretty late (38th round, IIRC), but I remember reading a few things on him and a lot of people thought that if he went back to JC for another year and worked on some stuff, he could have turned into a 1st-3rd round pick the next year. And, by 2000, he was flying through the Sox system and some of us had him pegged for the rotation by 2001 or 2002. He was pretty highly thought of by late 2000, anyway... Turned out way better than expected and accomplished it way faster, but that's cool.

what numbers... i didnt post any numbers... as for kip comin to the sox.. been there done that and it sucked... dont want to have him back here..it would be like takin todd ritchie back.. why step backwards when the whole point is to go foward.............wells could pitch for the yanks and still suck.. hes lost whatever he had that made him such a hot prospect....
-
kips stats speak for themselves.. as far as using that as a judgement tool you know me better than that.. i dont like stats they are overated.....its that look he gets and you know hes totaly useless when he gets rocked.. which happens too often i base my judgement on his sucking level.......... Or, combined with those solid stats, suggests I'm right and that he doesn't suck; he doesn't know how to pitch... Probably an effect caused by working with the man Lou Piniella called, "the worst pitching coach in baseball." Believe all you want, but Kip Wells has more talent than Mark Buehrle (and I base that on watching the two of them pitch, not on stats, because (duh) Mark has better stats). No dig on Mark, though... He may not have the best stuff, but he's such a smart pitcher, he elevates his game by changing speeds effectively and picking spots. 'Nuttin' wrong wit dat.
-
Kip still has better/as good of stuff as Mark does. He just has no idea how to pitch. That, and PNC Park is a hitter's park, yet Wells has posted an ERA of 3.58 and 3.63 in his two years in Pittsburgh. Not too damn bad. Nardi got to him, messed with his mind and mechanics, Kip lost a lot of faith in himself and is slowly picking it up. But I'm sure all the Kip bashers just look at his record (or something equally stupid) and dismiss him. I sure wish he was still here. Cooper may have been able to straighten him back out. But yeah, Kip Wells is very talented. Probably the most talented pitcher the Sox have had in nearly a decade.
-
That ERA above 6 didn't work in his favor, either. If you want an example of a player who got f***ed around by the White Sox for opening his trap, look more along the lines of Ray Durham or Keith Foulke... Not Rick White.
-
Wells was far more talented than Buehrle... He just got ruined by his own skill and lack of coaching by Nardi Contreras.
-
Pfft... We're better than any other generation that's ever come along. They can all suck my dick.
-
People in sports media generally suck. This should be proof.
-
Williams... Schueler was an absolute pud... The reason the farm system is so thin right now is that Ronny didn't know what the hell he was doing (but he did draft his daughter. )
-
I don't think he got off that much worse/better than anyone else who would have done the same stuff that just didn't get on national TV. Oh well. It's over.
