These players get to keep their bonuses. They are restricted to international rules like everyone has said though. The White Sox can't sign anyone for more than $300K. There really aren't a ton of teams with a bunch of money to throw around and teams already have money committed during the 2018/2019 period. Some of these prospects like Almonte (catcher) were never $3 million + prospects anymore. They were bundled to save on other guys. Sox may have a shot at a few guys for $300K but I don't expect them to be too active. It's just the way it is once they decided to go all out for Luis Robert.

QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 08:38 AM) Isn't the waiver order just the draft order in the off-season? I'm not sure it goes by league. Yes it is: https://www.thecubreporter.com/book/export/html/3525 So basically, only the Tigers and Giants have priority over the White Sox if they want Mark Appel.

QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 21, 2017 -> 08:32 AM) I'm not sure Appel is going to make it out of the NL. Plenty or rebuilding teams that could claim him. Isn't the waiver order just the draft order in the off-season? I'm not sure it goes by league.

White Sox add Gillaspie, Eloy, Basabe, Clarkin and Micker

White Sox chose not to protect: UTIL Jake Peter, LHP Jordan Guerrero, and OF Tito Polo. Any of them could potentially get taken. I think they could add more guys after the non-tender deadline too though. -

40-man roster decisions and the Rule 5 Draft
Y2Jimmy0 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
White Sox have a ton of roster moves to make in the next 24 hours. Scott Merkin suggested that the club could add as many as 6 guys to the 40 man roster. In order to do so and leave a spot available for the Rule 5, they would need to remove 3 players from the 40-man. -
Great trade. These are the types of moves that they need to be making. They've traded international pool money for SS Yeyson Yrizarri, RHP Ryan Burr, and now Thyago Vieria. Not a bad haul for $$ that you basically couldn't spend anyway.

QUOTE (buhbuhburrrrlz @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 08:42 PM) I'm so sick of hearing stories about Mirotic and Portis. They run their team worse than a kindergarten. I'm not really sure what they're supposed to do here. Mirotic and Portis need to sit and hash it out or Mirotic probably shouldn't be at the facility. They aren't trading Portis and can't trade Mirotic until January 15th. -

QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 15, 2017 -> 08:44 AM) Luzardo, Murphy, and Jefferies? If you could get Jesus Luzardo and and Lazaro Armenteros I would do it in a heartbeat. Not sure Oakland would offer that though. Catcher Sean Murphy is a potential guy to keep in mind. The White Sox love AFL players. THey were also interested in Luzardo for DRob during the Nats talks.

http://www.sfgate.com/athletics/article/A-...-s-12357838.php The A’s have most of their lineup set but want to add a right-handed-hitting outfielder, and it was learned they have interest in Avisail Garcia of the White Sox, or at least that type of player. Garcia, 26, is coming off a breakout season and was a first-time All-Star, hitting .330 with 18 homers and 80 RBIs in 136 games. Chicago GM Rick Hahn said he’s open to trading Garcia and first baseman Jose Abreu, both of whom are under club control through 2019.

Shohei Otani is likely coming to the USA
Y2Jimmy0 replied to NorthSideSox72's topic in Pale Hose Talk
In reference to Southsider and Dick Allen, you're both kind of correct. I've seen those numbers stated as fact and it doesn't really make sense. There are teams with $$ available that can still be traded all the way up to June 15th. For example, the White Sox have a budget of $4.25 million. They spent 600K that is accounted for on 2 players. They traded an undisclosed amount to Arizona and Texas. They could still have $2 million left for all we know. They could theoretically trade that money to a team that has $3 million left and that team would then have $5 million to offer Otani. This is almost impossible to predict until BA releases their International Signing Reviews for every team. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 4, 2017 -> 03:06 PM) https://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2017/11/late...lo-stanton.html Interesting read but Gammons article is a bit contradictory. Starting to doubt the Cards could really land Stanton since it would take so many things to line up. Would be easier for a team like Boston or even the Yanks to step in and make an offer without asking for much money, if any, in return. Yanks, Boston and Dodgers have very serious luxury tax concerns. It's not just $$. If you are over the tax you lose international money and you have to give up a 2nd an 5th rounder to sign any free agent given a QO. I think teams like the Cardinals and Phillies are most likely.

QUOTE (Quin @ Nov 2, 2017 -> 11:35 PM) http://www.dailyherald.com/sports/20171102..._medium=twitter McGraw asking if the Bulls could win around Cousins? I'd love Cousins, but won't happen. But man...this lineup PG: Dunn / SG: LaVine / Nwaba SF: Porter / Holiday PF: Lauri / C : Cousins / Felicio Would just be fun. The Bulls are in a good spot going forward. There aren't many teams with the financial flexibility that they will have. But yes, I'm aware that GarPax are still making the decisions. -
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 08:16 AM) There’s a non-zero chance Adolfo is protected, but no one is selecting Clarkin and he will most definitely not be protected. The team has high hopes for Clarkin. Can they live with losing either player?
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 3, 2017 -> 01:15 AM) Yeah, I don't know the status of every player as far as options and who needs to be protected but players such as Ian Clarkin (yanks pitcher), Micker Adolfo and Tito Polo I think will be added. Players that could end up being removed, if necessary, are Jacob May, Allen Hanson, Willy Garcia, AL Albuquerque and Danny Farquhar. Isn't the rule 5 draft at the end of the winter meetings? Yes. The Rule 5 draft is the Thursday morning of the Winter Meetings. White Sox players that are Rule 5 eligible: Eloy Jimenez, Casey Gillaspie, Jake Peter, Tito Polo, Jordan Guerrero, Brian Clark, Connor Walsh, Micker Adolfo, and Ian Clarkin. I would think that Gillaspie, Eloy, Polo, and Guerrero definitely get protected. Adolfo and Clarkin are in A ball so they should be fine but the Padres selected two guys out of A ball last year so they could be forced to protect Clarkin and Adolfo. We'll see.

Perfect outcome for the Bulls last night. Markkanen looked great again with 25 and 8, Dunn flashed and looked pretty explosive and they lost a pretty close game. 1-5 on the season. -
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 04:24 PM) I'm amazed that Hahn apparently has bought into the philosophy that the only players you want on your team are young, young, young (judging from his Avi and Abreu comments as relayed by Dick Allen). At least young position players. We'll see if he adds any veteran pitchers for our contending teams. I contend you need at least a few veterans like Avi/Abreu but I guess I'm wrong. BTW let's see if Hahn can ever put together a complete team. Even if our young guys excel which I hope they do, we need some creativity in adding enough effective bullpen pieces and putting together a team at least average defensively to win anything of note. If I were GM ... I'd concede we have all star to superstar type players aboard in Eloy and Moncada, Avi and Abreu. I'd suggest we have enough pitching for Cooper to put together a WS starting rotation. We will not win anything though, without defense that rates a 7 out of 10 and bullpen that rates 8 of 10. And we could use a stellar catcher. Go to work, Mr. Hahn. Your work has just begun. Greg, the issue is Avisail and Abreu's contracts. THey each have two years left. What Hahn needs to figure out is whether they should extend or trade either player. The worst case scenario would be to do nothing in this instance. My guess is that they try and trade Garcia this winter and lock up Abreu to a 4 year extension.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 1, 2017 -> 09:25 AM) I don't think it's very likely the Cubs trade him and we've got enough guys in our lineup who will need at bats that we really don't have a DH or corner OF spot for him. I'm not giving up anything of value for him with where we're at - talk to me in a year or two if they're closer to letting him go. Even guys like Fulmer have more value to me based on what our organization has. IF we're talking buy-low guys, I would be circling names of pitchers, starters and relievers. We have enough AAAA level guys to fight it out for lineup positions before the thing in RF arrives to take its rightful spot. The White Sox already turned down Kyle Schwarber. Doesn't really fit the the timeline. And they don't really have anything to acquire him that the Cubs would want anymore.
-
I don't really see them signing multi-year deals with anyone. Veteran backup catcher, veteran starter like Chris Tillman, 1-2 veteran relievers on 1 year deals as well. They could sign some guys to potentially flip and add a ton of guys on minor league deals. I also think they explore Avisail Garcia and extend Abreu. Next year isn't a compete year. It's a growth year with kids playing. Next year's free agent class is a different story though.

QUOTE (ptatc @ Oct 30, 2017 -> 08:42 PM) Yeah and kind of a waste for Patriots. They used a 2nd round pick to get him so the 49ers spent the same pick but get the Belichik experience for him. Bears should have waited I'd rather have Trubisky then pay a 26 year old Garoppolo $100 million.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 30, 2017 -> 09:39 PM) The quitting on the team thing is so cliche. It was late in the year. The Sox wanted to get rid of the mouth that roared. He didn't quit on anybody. He did exactly what the front office wanted ... leave. Ozzie's demise is a great lesson in humility for the working class. Remember no man is bigger than the company he/she works for. ANYBODY is replaceable. Open your mouth too much (once for normal working stiffs) and you are GONE. Remember that. It's why those people getting arrested during protests are so stupid as well. You get arrested, you are done for life. No high paying job for you, arrestee. The world stops for no one. We are ALL replaceable. Ozzie is unhirable cause he opened his trap too much. Case closed. Caulfield?
