  1. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 10:21 AM) More than I will enjoy the next few years for sure. This statement is absolutely nuts to me, man. Really? You'd rather watch these patched together rosters of hope and prayer then legit stud prospects coming up at every turn? wow. Alright.
  2. QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 10:11 AM) First off, rebuilding was without question the right strategy for us. We were stuck in the middle with no money and a bottom five farm system. The choice to blow it up was a no brainer. Second, I am super excited to follow some of these young players. By June we could have a rotation that includes Rodon, Giolito, Lopez, & Fulmer. That's four young guys with TOR stuff. For diehard Sox fans, that already makes 80% games at least somewhat interesting. Plus we'll have an electric young arm in the bullpen in Burdi. By June we should also see the most exciting positional prospect the White Sox have had since Frank Thomas called up. I can't understate how excited I am to watch Moncada develop into the superstar he has a legit chance at becoming. I also can't wait to follow Anderson in his second season and see if he can become one of the top young SS in the game. And hopefully there are some other exciting positional prospects on the way between Quintana and/or other potential deals. Hell, I'm even excited to see if any of our C type prospects develop into anything. One or two of Tilson, Liriano, Engel, & May will get some serous playing time in the OF this year. Davidson could get a shot at DH or 3B. Right now Navarez looks to be in the mix at C. There are also a few interesting guys at Charlotte who might eventually get a chance in Delmonico & Peter. I'm not optimistic any of these guys will turn into solid major league players, but rebuilding gives us an opportunity to play these type of prospects and see if any stick. And finally I'm excited to cheer on our remaining trade assets in preparation for what should be an exciting 2017 deadline for us. Assuming Q is dealt in the next month, we could still have guys like Abreu, Frazier, Cabrera, Robertson, Jones, Jennings, Petricka, Putnam, Gonzalez, Holland, etc. that could bring back varying degrees of value. There should be a second influx of prospects come July of 2017. So ultimately while 2017 is going to suck from a wins & losses perspective, there's a lot of things to be excited for if you're willing to consider other angles. And guess what, if the losing is too much for anyone, they can simply change the channel and not feel guilty. There is no expectation to win next year which means following the White Sox can finally be on our own terms. After putting in hundreds of hours into this team over the last few years and receiving nothing in return but regret & unfulfillment, that's a huge plus for me. Completely Agree with this take. I like following prospects though and potential international signings and stuff like that.
  3. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 28, 2016 -> 09:27 AM) Eh. I have no interest in wasting major league money on an intentionally bad product, nor do I feel like getting excited about knowing this is going to be the worst time to be a Sox fan in decades. Hoping what might happen in five years isn't really a reason to be excited today for me. It is the route we have chosen and all, but it is so depressing. It isn't like you can sim this time period to see if it works like OOTP. You have to live through the misery. Bleh. I disagree. I think this is the best time to be a fan since about 2008. There's a realistic plan in place in which they are finally emphasizing the fact that scouting and developing talent is the most important thing. It's about damn time.
  4. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 27, 2016 -> 04:07 PM) I think the Bucs could get it done without him...either Glasnow + Bell + a couple of their other top tier guys could do it as a 4 pack, or if they got a strong return for McCutchen whatever came back for him could do it as well. I don't think they'd be willing to do it without moving McCutchen though, based on the talk over the past week. Glasnow, Bell, Newman, and Hayes would be a ridiculous return for White Sox. I bet the Pirates would probably turn that down but maybe something close to it.
  5. Chris Crawford is a prospect and draft writer for ESPN and Rotoworld. He has prospect guides for a very modest price (a few $$) that can be yours. They are fantastic. I can't post them but I will talk about what's in it and recommend them to all. 1. Yoan Moncada 2B: Hit 60, Power 55, Speed 70, Glove 50, Arm 60. Still the #1 prospect in baseball. Floor is an average regular with 20 SB's per year. Ceiling: MVP Candidate 2. Lucas Giolito RHP: 70FB, 70 CRV, 55CHG, 55 COMM. Crawford thinks people dropping Giolito down prospect lists are insane. Still best pitching prospect in baseball. 3. Michael Kopech RHP: 80 FB, 55SL, 50CHG, 45 COMM. Best FB in minor leagues. Ceiling: TOR Floor: Dominant Reliever 4. Reynaldo Lopez: Electric stuff. Crawford thinks he's probably a reliever but chance to start. 5. Zach Collins C. All Star if he can stay at C. A lot better defensively than he was early in college. 6. Alec Hansen RHP: If command can be fringe/average, he could be very good. 7. Dane Dunning RHP: Good body. Mid-Rotation Upside. 8. Luis Alexander Basabe CF: Offensive skill-set very volatile. All-Star Ceiling but Floor of 4th/5th OF 9. Zach Burdi: Best Relief PItching prospect in baseball 10. Carson Fulmer RHP: Bullpen. Crawford has never really been a fan. 11. Spencer Adams: Only 20. Really high floor of back-end SP. 12. Charlie Tilson: Big fan. Probably 4th OF but could have "long big league career" 13. Jordan Stephens RHP: "If 45 Changeup can get to average, he'll be a big riser". 14. Jameson Fisher: Loves hit tool. Probably DH or 1B though with 40 Throw, GL, and Speed. 15. Adam Engel CF: Legit 80 runner. Doesn't think he'll hit enough to let speed play. 16. Micker Adolfo OF 17. Jake Peter: Thinks he'll help White Sox this season 18. Jordan Guerrero LHP 19. Alex Call: "If he can stay in CF, this ranking will look foolish" 20. Luis Curbelo: Big fan of draft pick. Probably 2B with power/speed combo.
  6. It was mentioned on MLBN this morning that Basabe will be in the top 100 when it gets updated for MLB.com
  7. Getting Torres and Frazier is crazy talk. Getting one of them is probably a requirement for 4 years of Q though. Torres/Rutherford ++ would be fantastic deal.
  8. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 09:04 PM) Things like this are where people take stats a little too literally. Sure he put up a .685 OPS. He did it at age 21 in High A ball, where he was nearly two years under the league average age. He struck out at a pretty low rate. He has insane speed. He has average power to go along with plus tools across the rest of the board. Would you rather take Judge and Rutherford + or Mateo and Rutherford +?
  9. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 20, 2016 -> 08:00 PM) That's a pretty great deal, buying low on Severino is vintage White Sox. Frazier and Mateo make a ton of sense for a team obviously trying to build up the middle. Compare it to the rumored Astros proposal Frazier = Tucker Mateo > Martes Severino > Musgrove Severino has immense talent, and his high ERA last year corresponded with an identical FIP as his hysteria inducing 2015 campaign. Perhaps in a vacuum Severino and Musgrove are equal (maybe even a slight edge to Musgrove), but to the White Sox there is a distinct appeal Severino has. And for those saying the Sox need more position players, well here is one of the best OF prospects in the game who will break camp in AAA and another MIF prospect (can never have too many) who has literally 80 speed. I'm not a fan of Mateo. .300 OBP. I think Martes is a #2 starter. I'd rather have Martes. I like the Yanks potential headliners better though.
  10. I proposed something like OF Aaron Judge, OF Blake Rutherford, RHP Dillon Tate, and SS Wilkerman Garcia for Quintana. I think the Yanks would do that probably. I think Rutherford is a potential superstar and I'd be willing to take a chance on Judge's power potential 25 years old or not. White Sox also really liked Rutherford and Tate in their draft years. I'd be in favor of working something around Blake Rutherford but I understand those not in favor.
  11. QUOTE (Con te Giolito @ Dec 18, 2016 -> 04:08 PM) They have bigger needs than QB. Got absolutely bulldozed by Ty Montgomery, cant make a play in the secondary and the Leno/Massie pairing at OT could use a new player. Falk or Watson should be available in the 2nd, go another direction with #4 overall. I dont know whether that means trading down and picking up another 1st rounder in 2018 or just flat out taking Jonathan Allen or Cam Robinson at #4. Cam Robinson is a late 1st round guy. Possibly not even a 1st rounder.
  12. QUOTE (fathom @ Dec 18, 2016 -> 03:18 PM) Nice loss, Fox is so getting fired He's not getting fired. They're competing almost every week with 3rd and 4th string players.
  13. I see we are back to discussing the possibility of acquiring guys that aren't being traded......
  14. QUOTE (bmags @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 12:45 PM) As always, a great way to let less interesting discussion die is to not respond to it with your own uninteresting opinion. This is true. I just have no idea how any person thinks that they aren't in a fairly substantial rebuild. It's very obvious that they aren't done and they aren't going to turn around and buy. It keeps getting talked about though. I keep taking the bait though like an idiot because it's a stupid opinion.
  15. Is that when I joined? Touche if so.
  16. They have this bench and first thing we all do is blame the coach? Please. It's regular season NBA hoops. Once they get to playoffs, they'll have 2 of the best players on the floor. And they'll probably win a series. And then lose the next series just like we all thought heading into the season. Hoiberg isn't a great coach but blaming him for having s***ty players and draft picks that can't earn PT is pretty lazy.
  17. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 07:59 PM) I wouldn't mind if they stopped now and dumped all the players at the midseason mark if we suck. See how we do, then trade them all if we reek with our new manager. Give him a chance to win first. Right now we got rid of Sale and Eaton. Big deal. Two of the pitchers we acquired were IN THE BIG LEAGUES last season. They could join the rotation and "arguably" the rotation would be fringe playoff caliber RIGHT NOW as it has been for many seasons. We've added a MLB ready second baseman who is supposed to be a star. Yes, the loss of Eaton weakens an already lousy outfield, but maybe we could actually sign a GOOD free agent outfielder and get a catcher who is not a disgrace. No I wouldn't mind if we stopped now. I don't want to win 50 games next season. Greg, those guys are all going to the minor leagues.
  18. QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 04:36 PM) Soo.. is Beer the second coming of Bryce Harper? What's all the hype about? No. Bryce Harper was a generational talent as a 16 year old. Seth Beer is very good and fun though. A lot can happen in 2 years of college baseball but he reminds me of Josh Hamilton crossed with Hunter Pence if that makes any sense.
  19. QUOTE (greg775 @ Dec 15, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) Great post. I can't believe our fans trust our front office to draft the right guy. We'll probably draft a pitcher who is Rodon-esque. I have nothing against Rodon, but... You must have a lot of money. You'll "have fun" rooting for a team down 4-0 in the second inning of a Holland or Shields start and 8-1 after 5? You are a helluva fan. I would puke in the scenario I've described after snarfing down a 6 dollar hot dog. Greg, with the way the White Sox operate, they are finally doing what puts them in the best place to sustain long-term success. They've been bad in years when they've gone for it and haven't reaped any of the benefits of rebuilding (spending a little more internationally, signing guys with the intent of flipping them, trading away valuable assets and sunk cost guys). The Sox have basically been seeing the results at the ML level of a team that is rebuilding without any benefit. Go away for 2 years. Complain about the draft and "prospects". But if they draft a player in 2018 that ends up being a franchise cornerstone I'm going to call you out when you root for that player.
  20. This is what Keith Law said: Nick: If you were Lunhow, would you trade Musgrove + Martes + Tucker for Quintana, and why or why not? I go back and forth as an Astros fan but think I’d be happy with him pulling the trigger. Klaw: If I’m Luhnow I do it. If I’m Hahn I’m not even countering because it’s so low. FWIW, I don’t know that that was ever discussed by the clubs.
  21. QUOTE (FT35 @ Dec 16, 2016 -> 07:47 AM) I just don't know...I've been burned before by trusting everything I hear...shoot, we were all convinced Sale was going to Washington--then things changed in a heartbeat. Our GM and owners comments only show what they are thinking at that moment...they are free to change course and HAVE in the past. All we're saying is that it's possible that they got more than they thought for Sale and Eaton and modified their course of action. The landscape of the organization is DRASTICALLY different than it was before those deals happened. It's realistic to think that there is some reevaluation happening--and a different course of action is being discussed. The thread wouldn't exist if there wasn't a little speculation that this could be the case. If nothing else, it's an interesting theory that many have enjoyed discussing. That's the point of these boards--(over analyze the crap out of our team!) try to think of everything...it's impossible for 1 person to be right about everything along the way--unless you're the great Dick Allen. No one posting in this thread would be the least bit surprised if Q, Abreu and or Jones were dealt, but until it happens...it's an interesting thought to think the plan has changed. This thread is a dumpster fire. It's not interesting. This website is much, much dumber than it used to be. Used to be my favorite place to go. Now I dread reading many of the threads. It's sad actually.
  22. The White Sox aren't forfeiting any draft picks. They want to trade everyone. How is this still not clear for people? If Rick Hahn had it his way, he would have made 4 more trades right now. They want to be terrible this year. And they should be.
  23. I thought the Thread Title said: Matt Purke Dead
  24. QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 02:15 PM) I don't root for losses in baseball because the draft is too unusual. The picks rarely pan out so I'd rather compete for a wild card. Meh. The worse you are the more money you are allowed to spend in the draft. You want to pick as high in each round as possible if you're bad so you can get a larger bonus pool.
  25. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 14, 2016 -> 01:01 PM) With the new caps, it really isn't going to work like that anymore. I mean they could spend over this year, but all of the best Latin American talent is signed, so pretty much it would have to come from Cuba or Asia. Who out there is worth signing now that is worth handicapping ourselves for the next two years? I can't think of anyone. Then factor in that when with the new caps, those dollars should buy a whole lot more players than it used to in the next July 2 class. On top of that, this the era the Sox need to be able to sign as many players as possible for each season to load up on talent, instead of punting on two full years worth of international talent in the middle of a rebuild. The new agreement starts for this next year's class on July 2nd. White Sox have $4.75 million to spend. They can acquire up to another $3.5 million to spend a total of $8.3 million. There are like 10 teams basically out which I documented earlier in the thread. In an interview with Brian last year, Paddy insinuated that they'd be signing a pretty big name pitcher internationally this year. None of the top 30 or anything has even been released yet.
