Sox have tried to sign Samardzija to a long term deal
Y2Jimmy0 replied to Sockin's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 05:52 AM) I'll be honest, Robertson shouldn't be up there anymore either. Sale, Eaton, Abreu? Robertson year is pretty much in line with his career averages though. He has 7 blown saves and a 3.39 ERA but he has a FIP of 2.53. His 1.7 fWAR is pretty similar to the rest of his career. His GB% is down, he doesn't leave as many guys on base however, but he is averaging less walks per 9 as well. He's had a pretty good season. -
QUOTE (RockRaines @ Sep 21, 2015 -> 07:55 AM) I literally cannot agree with anything in your post. Goff is not even close to a good pick for where the Bears will be selecting. Rock, you're the resident OSU fan on the board, thoughts on Bosa? Will he be the consensus #1 player come April? Also, JT Barrett seems like the best option for Ohio State, but if that's the case, it seems to me that Cardale Jones should have gone pro last year.
-
QUOTE (maggsmaggs @ Sep 20, 2015 -> 04:11 PM) Ill take Goff from Cal, but this team needs to find its future QB If they pick high enough, I'd take Joey Bosa, Jaylon Smith, Laremy Tunsil, or the ND OT over any of the QBs.

How many of last off-seasons "big" moves would the Sox make

QUOTE (coco1997 @ Sep 20, 2015 -> 01:38 PM) In hindsight Hahn would've made more of a push to acquire Adam Lind (which apparently he tried to do) and maybe Miguel Montero or Francisco Cervelli. The season may have looked much different with Adam Lind and Miguel Montero actually. -
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Sep 19, 2015 -> 08:01 PM) thank you. It's worth about 12-15 million if you go by $/WAR in the FA market but teams wouldn't pay quite that much because the impact is so delayed. THe pick won't even help until at least 2019 anyways. It's not worthless, but it's hardly worth risking he takes the offer imo. He's in his decline use the roster spot and financial flexibility to upgrade elsewhere. Danks has been a pleasant suprise overall and Johnson, barring another injury, looks like he can be a solid 5th at least as well. So losing Shark is no big loss and as already said the pick is valuable but not priceless. It's not just about the player picked though. It's about the flexibility that it allows dispersed throughout the whole draft. Not sure why I have to explain constantly. I never said anything about the player chosen with that particular selection. That's not why it's valuable.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 10:06 AM) http://www.everydayshouldbesaturday.com/20...3/curious-index So it looks like the biggest texas booster has canceled his suite the rest of the season. Looks like their AD will be out soon, which means Charlie Strong likely won't be there next year. Can't say I don't enjoy this, but I do feel bad for Charlie Strong. I'm sure he'll have a rich-rod like resurgence elsewhere. Firing Charlie Strong would be really stupid. Racist assholes. -
QUOTE (Vance Law @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 08:51 PM) The talk of him accepting the QO is absurd. Greta post. Completely agree.
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ Sep 19, 2015 -> 10:08 AM) Do we agree with the following: 1) Coop will be the Sox pitching coach next season. 2) Samardjiza is not one of our best 5 starting pitchers 3) There are more important holes to fill with the money he would receive through a qualifying offer. 4) He had precisely the same incentive to pitch well this year, with a potential huge free agent contract on the horizon, and the results were terrible. If those things are true, I personally am not in favor of taking the chance that he accepts the QO. The money that he will cost, even for one year, is not justified and can better be spent elsewhere. Moreover, having him start every 5TH game significantly diminishes the chances for the Sox to win on that day. The Sox have some young pitchers who need to be given an opportunity. That list includes E. Johnson, Montas and later Fulmer. And finally, the record of "sandwich round" draft picks is not good enough to merit the sacrifice. Therefore, unless there is some assurance that he won't accept it, I hope that the front office doesn't make a QO. It's a complete and utter failure by the organization if they don't get the comp pick. Not offering him a QO is crazy talk. They will offer him. He'll decline and sign elsewhere. Not sure why so many in this thread are struggling with this. The pick falls in the 25-35 range. Very valuable pick.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) Yeah, I know they aren't. The team doesn't like it though. Even Edwards (my neighbor, told me this directly) grew tired of it/our coach's playcalling last season. He should have. Took a pounding every week for no reason. -
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 01:02 PM) If Shark bait truely does not want to return to the south side then this might be best for both sides and that's what I'm hoping for. Key word is 'hoping'. This is a horrible situation for both the Sox and Shark bait. If the Sox offer the QO it does hurt Shark bait but if the Sox do not, it helps Shark bait and hurts the Sox. This is a very messy predicament for the Sox but they put their self in this by trading for a player that has been very adamant on going to FA because for some stupid reason they thought they could extend him based on Shark bait growing up a Sox fan. I just disagree that it's a messy predicament. I think it's a no brainer to give him the QO.
-
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 12:11 PM) Agreed. Samardzija's last 3 or 4 starts have changed my perspective quite a bit. I thought there was no chance he would accept but now, he just might and there's no way I would take the chance on him accepting and earning around 16M next year. Time for the Sox FO to accept they made a horrible trade and move on from the Shark bait nightmare. The 16M needs to be spent on the offense and not Shark bait. Why do people keep writing this? It doesn't make sense. There is no scenario in which not giving a QO makes sense. 1. Best case scenario, Sox give Shark the QO and he declines. White Sox get a top 35 pick. 2. Another scenario, White Sox give him the QO and he accepts. They can then either let him pitch all year to recoup some value and give him another QO next offseason or they could trade him during the season. Those are the options. Letting him become a free agent and getting nothing in return just doesn't make any sense. Luckily, it won't happen. I would be stunned if the Sox didn't give him the QO. I'd be just as stunned if he accepted it. he doesn't want to be here. He's wanted to be a free agent forever.

QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 06:59 AM) Yeah, you're right I was joking. Our coach (who happens to be my history teacher) is running such an outdated offense and is too stubborn to change it. DGN has run the option for like 30 years. If they didn't change it for David Edwards the last 4 years, they aren't changing it. -
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 18, 2015 -> 08:57 AM) Which would suck because he has all the talent in the world, but he just hasn't figured it out yet. I'm hoping that he'll make me eat my words and he'll become a star, but that possibility is looking less and less possible each passing day... I usually wait until 1,500-2,000 ML at-bats but what I've seen to this point isn't very promising.

QUOTE (Mike F. @ Sep 17, 2015 -> 02:44 PM) I just thought a grown man wouldn't be so sensitive. That's it. It is what it is. If a 16 year old tweeted at me telling me how to become a better teacher, I'd probably block them as well. He's not being sensitive. He doesn't have time to deal with dopes. I think he knows that if he doesn't get much better, it'll be a short career. They are professionals.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 11:08 PM) We should do a mini poll. Who would you rather have manage the Sox next year if these were the only choices: Robin or Ozzie or Bevington? I'd take ... OZZIE! If those were my choices, I think I'd go with Robin.

QUOTE (Coach @ Sep 16, 2015 -> 08:15 AM) It takes me about 2 hours to get to a Sox game, each way. Why would I want to spend all that time and money going to watch lousy baseball when I can go to the local park and watch kids play and having fun. I have no desire to go. So don't go. That's your right. Do whatever you want. I prefer watching professionals but do whatever you'd like.

QUOTE (Flash Tizzle @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 11:46 PM) This reminds me of "If we don't get the offer we want for Shark before the deadline we can just let him go for a draft pick." There's too much risk with a QO because if he does accept, we are sure as HELL are not trading him for anything of value. Also can anyone tolerate this guy for another season? I'd rather take equal production for a fraction of the cost A cynic/crazy part of me thinks, Shark may throw aside his issues with Cooper (assuming they exist) and accept a QO to reestablish himself for the following offseason when the available SP market won't be as deep. You are wrong about this. Like I've said numerous times, there is zero reason to not give him the QO. They will give him one. Then he will decline and sign somewhere else. I wouldn't worry about him being back. He wants to leave. -

Not giving him a QO at this point is crazy talk. He's getting a QO and he'll decline. He wants to get out of town. If for some reason, he accepted the QO, the Sox could still trade him or give him the QO next offseason. Getting nothing for him is really dumb and that won't happen. -
QUOTE (ron883 @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 09:34 PM) He isn't a politician? I beg to differ. Here is why. 1. He is a world renouned brain surgeon. He is a master about everything regarding the brain. If that's the case, why does he hold completely archaic views on marijuana? He thinks marijuana has a detrimental effect on the brain if you use it in your mid 20's or earlier. He thinks it decreases your IQ. Those claims have been proven to be false for a long time now. That is stuff you'd see in 1960's American anti-weed propaganda. Marijuana has been proven to be beneficial to the brain in many situations. Being an expert on the brain, he should know of the numerous benefits marijuana can have on the brain. There is no way he actually believes that. He is lying for the lobbyists and for the votes on that issues. 2. He is a creationist. There is absolutely no excuse for being a creationist if you are as educated as him. Plain and simple. You don't get my vote if you a creationist. Maybe he actually believes this. His history shows he always had this view, so maybe he isn't putting on a facade for the votes. I still struggle to believe that any of these politicians are actually creationists. I agree with this. It doesn't make sense that such a smart person would feel this way about either issue.

QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 11:14 AM) As long as #12 is playing QB they are fine. 16 players on IR in 2010. I disagree. He's the best but you can't lose one of the best WRs in football and be "fine". We shall see.
