Neil Walker on the Block
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 12:36 PM) Thanks. I know Walker is better, but I don't think 2B should be our concern. 3B is a bigger problem IMO. I understand this but I still think just improving in general is the point.

White sox open to trading Avisail Garcia
QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 12:34 PM) What was Trayce's wRC/WAR for the last 2 months of the season? That's kind of my point. In small sample sizes, the guy was gangbusters for the first 30 or so at bats. Then he dropped off dramatically. I'm sure Avi's wrc/war was great for the first month or two of the season when he was hitting above .300 too in 155AB's. Trayce is much more valuable though because he's a similar hitter and plays way better defense.

QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 11:19 AM) I really don't think they are going to go into the season with Trayce as a starter. If Garcia does get moved I think it is to open a spot in an attempt to sign Upton or Cespedes. If Garcia is moved and you fail to sign and guy, then so be it Trayce becomes a starter. Dan Hayes said on twitter that they wouldn't be signing one of the big name OFs earlier. Even if they traded Garcia. Theu aren't paying $100 million for a free agent OF

White sox open to trading Avisail Garcia
He's bad but this thread is ridiculous. Nowhere does it say that they are interested in dumping him for whatever they can get. It clearly states that they may have to include him in a deal to acquire offensive upgrades. It also mentions an NL Scout that said they are frustrated with him. Of course they are. He's a bad baseball player. I'm pretty sure just getting rid of him because, for nothing, is not going to happen.

Neil Walker on the Block
QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 06:22 AM) i was thinking the other day of the pirates and again my crazy idea.... beside that, i guess pitt will try not to compete in the NL Central. but if walker was in a pkg with others players from pitt. walker will be a nice 3b if needed. now pitt is saying the positive stuff about Pedro Alvarez ... Pirates want to move Walker because they can play Jung at 3B and Harrison at 2B. Paying Neil Walker $10 million is a luxury that the Pirates don't really have.

"The White Sox, Black Holes, and Trading Quintana
QUOTE (Chicago White Sox @ Nov 19, 2015 -> 06:47 AM) I think it's a bit crazy to call him a "right-handed Mark Trumbo" because his numbers declined over the course of his rookie season. Like all young players, he'll need to make adjustments, but the power & on-base skills are legit. He has a chance to be one of the best hitters in baseball, something our system doesn't currently have in the pipeline. What I don't get is the love for Jorge Soler. Dude put up Avi-like numbers last year, is a horrible defender (poor instincts), and is made of glass. If he's the centerpiece of a Quintana trade, you're very likely going to be on the losing end of the deal. Agree with this. Schwarber, Torres, and Contreras for Quintana is a deal I'd make. Cubs and Sox aren't trading with each other though.

QUOTE (Dunt @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 10:40 PM) @FanSided: The #Pirates are shopping Neil Walker, and the #Orioles are among those interested. https://t.co/Mf5Z2W1pdG This is a trade that makes too much sense for the White Sox. A 2-3 win 2B that can probably be had at a reasonable price and could slide in pretty well in the 2 hole. And I believe he could be offered a QO next year or traded at midseason. Pirates need to clear the salary.

Official High School Football Thread!!!
QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 02:23 PM) Do high school kids choke? How could Bro Rice blow that 17 point lead late in the third quarter vs. Palatine. Now Rice has to contend with a rejuvenated St. Laurence, while Marist is always good now and St. Rita probably isn't going anywhere. That had to be humbling for Bro Rice. They'd have won the game had it been played on Pulaski. Palatine is good, Rice's defense is a sieve, and they may have looked ahead to Loyola instead of putting their foot on the gas.

"The White Sox, Black Holes, and Trading Quintana
QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 02:18 PM) Dan Hayes @CSNHayes 26s26 seconds ago Dan Hayes Retweeted August f**erstrom Deep look at what Jose Quintana might be able to fetch in trade. Was told last wk it'd take "small army" of hitters. And this is the right mindset. Nobody is really opposed to trading Jose Quintana. They are just opposed to seeing him traded for Javy Baez or Starlin Castro or something really stupid. Hahn and Kenny would never do that though. If Q goes, a lot will be coming back in return.

QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 02:06 PM) Why not just do 50% of what happened, 50% of what should have happened, seems the fairest way to do it. Take the average of the bWAR and fWAR. Kershaw had the best FIP. I'd use that over ERA any day.

Sale switching Sox?
QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 01:00 PM) I think the Dodgers and Red Sox are two good places to look in terms of Q / Sale. Both have a lot of upper level major league ready (or already in major league) prospects. I don't because those teams are easily able to keep their prospects and spend $$ on a starter. I think a team like the Pirates would be much more likely to trade for Q or Sale because they could never get a player like that otherwise.

QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 01:05 PM) Their is zero chance it will be anyone other then Arrietta. That said, if I were voting I'd give it to Greinke, followed by Jake followed by Kershaw. f*** bwar. Actual performance by Greinke (and run reduction) was absolutely incredible (as was Jake's). Stats might say one should have been better, but I award individual performance based upon real performance and results, not hypothetical shoulda woulda coulda performance. Last year, Quintana induced a popup to LCF with 2 guys on base. Eaton misplayed the ball and it landed. 2 Earned Runs scored. Examples like that are why I tend to use what should have happened rather than what actually happened. Kershaw won't win. But he's the best pitcher in baseball and he was the best last year as well.

QUOTE (flavum @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 11:53 AM) Kershaw should get 30 3rd place votes. I'm going to guess Arrieta will get about 18 1st's and 12 2nd's. Arrieta is going to win because he and Greinke are too close to call, because of the dominant 2nd half, the no-hitter, and because he's never won a Cy before. When it's very close I think some voters will give it to the guy that hasn't won before. It would be cool if they both got 15 1sts and 15 2nds, because it's that close. Kershaw was better than both guys though........

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 10:36 AM) It is B but I feel Arrieta will win. Maddon had a good season but I think Mahany was better. There is serious cub love right now and I think it carries over to this voting. I personally think Arrieta should win MVP but not the Cy Young Kershaw was the better pitcher Arrieta was the most valuable player to his team Harper is the MVP. No questions asked. Lock of the century. He put up a Barry Bonds season. Kershaw should win MVP but I agree that it'll be Arrieta.

QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 09:58 AM) Well Pitcher B is Kershaw, I have no idea who Pitcher A and C are because they don't match Greinke and Arrieta's stats I messed up the initial post. I just fixed it.

Which pitcher should win the NL Cy Young? Pitcher A: 5.9 fWAR, 2.76 FIP, 1.66 ERA, GB% 48%, 0.57 HR/9, 1.62 BB/9, 8.08 K/9, 222 IP, 32 starts, 200 strikeouts Pitcher B: 8.6 fWAR, 1.99 FIP, 2.13 ERA, GB% 50%, 0.58 HR/9, 1.62 BB/9, 11.64 K/9, 232 IP, 33 starts, 301 strikeouts Pitcher C: 7.3 fWAR, 2.35 FIP, 1.77 ERA, GB% 56.2%, 0.39 HR/9, 1.89 BB/9, 9.29 K/9, 229 IP, 33 starts, 236 strikeouts

My/Your Off Season Plan
QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Nov 18, 2015 -> 12:04 AM) Rabbit said 2 yrs/$16M. I had originally said I would offer him 1 yr/$7M. He signed with the A's for 1 yr/$6M. He was NEVER going to get a 2 year deal. I bet Beane spins him for a top 150 prospect in baseball in July.

David Robertson
QUOTE (SCCWS @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 02:13 PM) Not sure I agree. Kimbrel had a 90% save rate on a slightly worse team. I am not big on War for relievers but Kimbrel was better there as well. If I was Hahn I would have been tempted by that package since it had a couple of pretty highly rated middle infielders that were blocked in Boston. You actually can. They had very similar season's. Robertson: 1.8 fWAR, 2.52 FIP, 3.41 ERA, GB% 35.6, 0.99 HR/9, 1.85 BB/9, and 12.22K/9 in 63.1 innings. Kimbrel: 1.5 fWAR, FIP 2.68, ERA 2.58, GB% 46, 0.91 HR/9, 3.34 BB/9, and 13.20K/9 in 59.1 innings.

QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 01:33 PM) I feel like "Montas won't be a starter" is just a superficial scouting report that catches on because it's repeated ad nauseum. Like "Sale will get Tommy John", a way of discounting needing to look or give them a chance because you know something. It's not though. I usually don't write guys off and in the White Sox case, I won't write off Montas either. He doesn't really have a 3rd pitch though and he has like 45 command. I bet they sell high and use him in a package to a team that thinks he can start.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 10:32 AM) Couldn't agree more. Montas was frustrating to watch at times but as its already been said, he's only 22 so there's no reason to doubt his potential. SOX fans need to be patient. I've had doubts myself but then I look at video of his stuff and realize there's still huge upside in Montas. Just my opinion but I think Montas has more upside than Fulmer and would prefer the Sox traded Fulmer instead of Montas, if one of them is to be traded that is. My bad, didn't realize Margot was rated that high. On paper it does look like a bad trade but I'll wait on actually saying it is a bad trade until those prospects develop into something or flop. I won't because what the prospects do is irrelevant. I think it's bad because they could have used those same prospects to get someone more valuable. I think Fulmer has a better chance at being a starting pitcher than Montas does so I disagree there as well.

David Robertson
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 17, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) While I believe Robertson has value, I don't think it's as much as Kimbrel due to Kimbrel being a better closer. The Padres got some nice talent in return but one thing to remember is that Boston did not give up any of their best talent. I really don't know what to expect in a return for Robertson but I do know that I keep my expectations somewhat low. Margot was their #3 prospect. Guerra is going to be really good in my opinion. People keep saying that those guys are blocked anyway which I do understand. It doesn't mean you should trade them for a guy that will give you 60 innings of value per year though. It's a bad trade.
