White Sox still deciding on what to do
QUOTE (Dunt @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 07:27 PM) Q is a much better pitcher than Miller, I think a 1:1 swap would be pretty close. Would love Pollock. Arizona wouldn't give up Pollock for Miller. Pollock put up a 6.6 fWAR last season. He's young and extremely cheap. DBacks should keep him with Peralta and Goldschmidt going forward.

I'll guess this happens: Greinke/LAD Cueto/SF Leake/STL Maeda/Arizona Samardzija/Cubs

White Sox shouldn't have any interest in Chris Carter or Mark Trumbo right? Both available. Don't really fit.

2016 MLB Draft
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:40 AM) i know what you mean, ray would be excellent, but the org need for a cat and 3b and even a good dh if 1b is manned, is what i have been looking at. with pitching, i am a minority here, but i still like puk as the #1 player / sp in the whole draft. dang it, i can't wait for the freaking ncaa baseball season to start. the cape cod was really uneventful for me. Chris Okey could be there at #10 as well but it's so very early.

QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:30 AM) The league needs to evaluate how and who they are hiring and making certain they are getting the best possible guys. I think the officials being full-time would help as well. Many of these guys do college games on Saturday and the rules really are pretty different.

2015 Films thread
QUOTE (bmags @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 02:42 PM) The story pivots so much from murderous isolated contest where goal is to survive to a wide-spanning "win a civil war". In reality the third book could have been 5 unsuccessful books but eventually you run out of reason for her to be in the games. In lord of the rings, you have a single goal (destroy the ring) that can have so much happen along the way. In Harry Potter, its kill voldemort. These are simple acts that are your ending. Hunger Games could have resolved with the civil war being a handwaving moment "everyone rose up, the city fell in days", but instead they made the plot the civil war and it was a mess. The movie could have changed that but it didn't have the guts. Mockingjay was the worst of the books as well. I really like the series and the first book is a classic but the 3rd story was rushed and you can tell throughout.

2016 MLB Draft
QUOTE (LDF @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 10:25 AM) in my uneducated, unpro opinion, zach collins is #2 in hitting of the whole draft, well meaning he is an interesting player with power, hitting skills. now some experts are questioning if he will or could transfer his defensive skill to stay as catcher. imp the best pwer hitter is Bobby Dalbec, - 3b and they do not know if he is good enuf to stay at 3b. but when his hitting power is compared to kris bryant - cubs, and stanton of miani, you will need to take notice. but my disclaimer, we as fans need to see another season of college ball and see how they develop. I would say that Ray from Louisville is an early favorite with his ties to the ACE Academy. Should be a fun season with so many high picks

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (bruni @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:46 AM) Given that 3B was a black hole for the White Sox, they should have been on the phone with every team with a possible 3B solution for them at the trade deadline, including Toronto with whom they are familiar from past dealings. Believe me, had they been in real time communication with Toronto on the 31st, they could have made a trade that day with Toronto as Toronto was acquiring Revere. I am sure that he could have been snagged as a same day follow up to the Revere trade. Believe me, Toronto knew good and well that acquiring Revere would require them to dump Valencia and they would have gladly received something vs. nothing. Not hard to make it work if the Sox brass were being proactive-not reactive. No they didn't. They even said so at the time. They wanted to keep Valencia but they couldn't make it work with how their roster was structured. I know you just want this to be the Sox fault though so I'll stop here.

Official High School Football Thread!!!
QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:23 AM) Not sure if you follow high school sports other than football but the mighty Mount Carmel Caravan elected to be moved down to AA in wrestling in order to avoid the power programs and essentially guarantee themselves a couple of state champs and a team championship. This would be like them moving down to 5A in football. Greg, Brother Rice would have given Loyola a better game than Marist, they would not have beaten them and palatine was probably a better match up. Marist benefited from insanely dumb seeding/home team rules to get their two tougher opponents at home and easier one's on the road. Not certain what he IHSA plan is moving forward but he sate title games except for 7A were a joke. The best 7A game was round two MC and GW. Harry, I do follow other sports. I coach Football in the SW burbs. Huge wrestling fan and I am aware. Montini is actually 3A for the first time this year though which is good. The 1-32 seeding was a failure in 8A but it worked perfectly in 7A. Libertyville and GW probably would have played earlier with the old system. HF jacked up the whole thing by losing week 9.

QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:19 AM) Fleck contacted Illinois himself to inquire about the job. He is desperate for it. I don't know about Babers. The person in charge of the hire, using her quotes here, "still learning" about the process. The Interim AD, the only one who might know anything about the process, had no say in this at all. They still have not started searching for a permanent AD which is just incompetence of epic proportions. The whole thing is just a disaster. Yikes.

Shelby Miller
QUOTE (TheFutureIsNear @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 09:02 AM) The only way a Miller trade makes sense is if we trade Q 1st and then circle back to help our staff out...Wonder if a starting package of Micah, Avi, and Montas even gets us in the door though? I will say that advanced stats really don't like Miller (big FIP difference in all 3 years) and a move to the AL and our ballpark could be a pretty bad mix for him. I wouldn't sell the farm for 2 years of him. I don't think Atlanta considers without Fulmer and/or Anderson involved. Sox don't need Miller anyway.

Well reports of Babers to UCF really were premature. Scott Frost is the new HC at Central Florida. I wonder if Babers and Fleck both turned down Illinois through back-channels?

why not go for Brett lawrie?
QUOTE (bruni @ Dec 1, 2015 -> 07:48 AM) The real shame is that our asleep at the wheel front office failed to anticipate the release of Valencia from the Blue Jays last summer. He would have been a serviceable stop gap for 2 years until Michalczewski was ready (assuming he realizes his potential - eye roll, I know). Instead we will likely overpay for Lawrie or spend our limited budget on Freese. Either way, this team continues to tread water and get lapped by others in its own division, while wasting it's few upper tier talents. This is nonsense. The Blue Jays traded for Ben Revere on July 31st. To make room for him, they had to DFA Valencia. They DFA'd Valencia in August. Even if the White Sox wanted him (they put in a claim by the way), the Oakland A's had priority as the AL team with the worst record. Valencia wasn't available prior to the deadline. They just ran out of roster spots. For the Sox to trade for him, he would have had to clear waivers or at least make it to the Sox for them to be awarded the claim.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 11:20 PM) How good is Loyola? Is this one of the best teams in Illinois prep history? They destroyed Cinderella Marist. Any chance Br. Rice could have given them a game? Nah they weren't an All Time great team. 8A was really watered down. HF/Loyola was basically the championship. These f***ing Catholic schools man. Nazareth and Montini have absolutely no business playing in 5A and 6A. It's the Tim Racki way though. He loaded up and won a bunch of 4A titles at Driscoll back in the day too. It's a joke.

Abreu got married (?)
QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 29, 2015 -> 05:40 PM) I've always maintained that a man needs two things to be truly happy in life. He must be in love with his work, and he must be in love with his wife. Nah. It's classic Chris Rock man. Men need 3 things: Food, Sex, Silence. That's about it.

Article on Hanley Ramirez
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 02:04 PM) I've been staunchly against the idea of trading for Hanley but if Boston is willing to eat half of his salary, half of the 2019 vesting option and take LaRoche, I think my mind could be changed. In total, the Sox would be on the hook for about 45M through the '19 season. I think Hanley's bat is worth 11M per year. Yeah I'd make that deal too.

QUOTE (LDF @ Nov 30, 2015 -> 05:26 AM) sp - Johnny Cueto and the amount he rejected. there are 2 different amounts that was offered, a contract in the 15-18 mil range and another in the 6yrs/120 range. either way, before last yr, i would have sworn that he was in the 25 per range or more. but after last yr performance, i thought the 6/120 is a fair price. Nah. He'll get more than that.

why not go for Brett lawrie?
Jim Bowden stated in his latest piece that WhiteSox top target is Todd Frazier with Brett Lawrie as the backup plan. Chicago White Sox Status: Retooling Top target: Todd Frazier The White Sox have been unable to get steady production from their third base spot for several years now, which is why they've targeted Cincinnati Reds third baseman Todd Frazier via trade. The Reds certainly will listen, though Frazier, a fan favorite, is the one player they'd prefer not to trade, thus their asking price for the All-Star third baseman is through the roof. I see it as highly unlikely these two teams will match up in a trade of this magnitude. The White Sox would then turn to the A's and Brett Lawrie, who is expected to be traded this winter. Fall-back options: Lawrie, Pablo Sandoval, Trevor Plouffe, David Freese, Martin Prado

White Sox still deciding on what to do
QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Nov 28, 2015 -> 09:16 PM) Here it is. "The White Sox's offense was a disaster in 2015. Despite playing in a good home run park, they ranked last in the American League in runs and last in home runs. Their corner outfielders ranked 23rd in the majors in wOBA, and while they'll hope for a better season from Melky Cabrera, Upton would be a major upgrade over Avisail Garcia in right field. There should be room in the budget, especially when factoring in that John Danks ($15.75 million) and Adam LaRoche ($13 million) come off the payroll after 2016. The White Sox, however, also have holes in the infield that need addressing. The White Sox never punt on a season like other clubs, so we can count on them doing something." http://espn.go.com/blog/sweetspot/post/_/i...-end-up-signing I'm guessing Cleveland signs Upton. They don't have $100 million.
