  1. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) No draft pick is a plus. But he certainly has his negatives. I'd be fine with a 5 year $100+ And that would be $30 million+ more than any contract the White Sox have ever given someone
  2. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 09:31 AM) I'm not sure how much value EJ has. Quintana has a ton. I could see a Q trade for some pieces and signing a guy like Zimmerman to smack behind Sale. Not likely but I could see a scenario like that. I'd hate to see Q traded. It's just hard to imagine keeping him and still adding an impact bat without signing one. I also think Desmond could be a perfect rebuild value option. Would allow us the time for Anderson without rushing. Why do you keep suggesting signing players with Qualifying Offers attached? You are going to be disappointed...
  3. QUOTE (Harry Chappas @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 09:27 AM) If Rice minimizes their mistakes on offense, does not out coach themselves and takes advantage of their talent, they should win and have a date at home with Loyola in the semis. I am not sure if you are noticing but a couple of upsets and you could see Marist and Rice in 8A finals. Decent chance you see Marist and Loyola. HF
  4. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Nov 12, 2015 -> 07:58 AM) Dan Hayes was on CSN last night from the GM meetings, and he said Eric Johnson is on the block. I was wondering about this too. Maybe Erik Johnson and Micah Johnson gets you a hitter that you like. They can sign a Latos or Fister in free agency to take Johnson's spot in the rotation. There's also a chance that one of those guys rebounds enough to receive a Qualifying Offer next year or even be traded during the season. I just don't know how much value Erik Johnson really has.
  5. Trade Erik Johnson in a package for a position player. Sign Doug Fister for 1 year and $8 million. He rebounds nicely and we offer him a QO next year. Wishful thinking......
  6. This is exactly how I feel about the Quintana situation. Tom Fornelli does an excellent job here: http://www.writesox.com/2015/11/jose-quint...ade-rumors.html
  7. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 07:07 PM) Don't think the qualifying offer is totally going to deter the sox. They got a 10 pick which is protected and should be a comp pick for shark when he declines. Sox don't have enough prospects to get the players back to fill all the holes they have. Quintana is going to be probably have to moved in order to full the spots. This is probably the last year they can try to sign qualifying offer free agent . They lose the Samardzija pick if they sign a Qualifying Offer free agent. The whole point of keeping Shark was to recoup the pick. I think you can cross anyone with a QO off your list.
  8. I'd be stunned if they gave up a top 30 pick. I'll say Alexei returns for 2 years $13 million.
  9. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 05:42 PM) Pierzynksi returning to braves. Might take wieters out of play for them Wieters is out of play for the White Sox too. Was as soon as that Qualifying Offer was given.
  10. He'll sign in San Francisco and I bet he has a really good year.
  11. QUOTE (AustinIllini @ Nov 11, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) Essentially. CBS had a one shot opportunity to move from WBBM to WSCR and everyone kind of knew it would happen due to the White Sox move. Yeah. It's a really smart move for both parties. Feder had the news about a week ago though.
  12. Chris Sale had a 6.2 fWAR season with a FIP of 2.73. Sonny Gray put up a 3.8 fWAR and a 3.45 FIP. Him being in the discussion over Sale is a joke.
  13. QUOTE (oldsox @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 06:15 PM) Why does a team need two hitting coaches? Most teams are doing it. It can't hurt. One guy never reaches all 25 guys on a team anyway. Not a big deal in my opinion.
  14. Some very sensitive folks in this thread. I'm glad nobody watches football with me......
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 01:32 PM) What do you expect him to say? I'd translate that as follow: Yeah, ya' know, Jeff sucked balls with us. But really, what'd we give up? A SS who isn't a SS that can hit a bit, but will never be even an OK defender. A back of the rotation pitcher who isn't that young that will likely be a middle reliever at best? Plus a C that Coop hates and our pitchers hated throwing to. Oh and we threw in this guy down in AA who supposedly can hit minor league pitching pretty well, but has no position or power. Yeah, I traded a bunch of leftovers for Shark, and Shark s*** the bed. Excellent post
  16. QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 01:26 PM) Good to see this is what passes for journalism at the Sun Times now. The headline and Lede aren't supported by anything in the article. I see one attributed quote about his market -- from Hahn. That's one opinion by a guy that has a very vested outcome in seeing such a "robust" market form for Shark. I mean, FFS, at least get the pro-forma puff piece quote from an "un named scout" that "sees a fixable flaw" and a guy "ready to bounce back at a buy low price". Jeez. Thanks Hahn but I'm pretty sure not having Marcus and Bassit will affect the team going forward and that Jeff's awful season will impact the team in 2016. Hahn is already mastering KW style "cover your ass" quotes. They didn't think that Marcus and Bassitt were huge losses though. They decided that Samardzija (for 1 year)+top 30 2016 pick is better going forward than the 4 players that they gave up.
  17. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 12:56 PM) I heard that many, many closers are on the block. Wonder if Robertson is one of them. My guess would be no.
  18. QUOTE (whitesoxfan99 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 12:49 PM) Agreed. With their surplus of prospects and position players I think you see the Cubs target someone like Tyson Ross or Carlos Carrasco who are really good pitchers and still have a good amount of team control left rather than spend $25 mil+ on Greinke or Price. I think they'll sign David Price and Denard Span and then trade for young controlled pitching.
  19. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) Quintana would instantly become their #1, plus I'm sure Sox would add some top prospects to go along with it. They aren't exactly going anywhere with that pitching staff. Why would the Sox add top prospects? Arenado is the kind of guy I'd trade Q for. I'm not adding top prospects though.
  20. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 10:38 AM) I think Quintana + can get Arenado. Absolutely. Arenado is 24, put 4.5 fWAR and had a wRc of 119. He has 3 arb years left. He's a stud but he will not re-sign with Colorado and Q is also a stud on a great contract.

    Bridge of Spies is excellent
  22. QUOTE (HickoryHuskers @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 09:31 AM) How is Nieto a free agent? He's on the 40 and has options left. He's not on the 40.
  23. Could Nobuhiro Matsuda be an option at 3B? He's already 32 but has put up nice numbers in Japan. http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2015/11/nobu...eda-timing.html Here's one of his homers:
  24. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Nov 10, 2015 -> 07:42 AM) You think teams would want to try making trades for young cost controlled pitching before turning to free agent market giving out 9 figure contracts? Why? If I were a team with $$ I'd rather sign free agent pitching instead of giving up the prospects.
  25. QUOTE (shysocks @ Nov 9, 2015 -> 01:49 PM) No it wouldn't be plenty. The Sox don't need to trade the cost-controlled Quintana, so if they decide to do it I hope they can do better than guys who bring the serious questions that Baez, Soler, and Castro bring. Soler just had an Avi-like year. Baez will never strike out in fewer than 30% of his plate appearances; he'll have to run a .340 BABIP to be special. We know all about Castro's issues. I know they're young but it's still all a bunch of question marks. I want an exclamation point somewhere in a package for Q. I agree. Quintana package starts with Schwarber. Why would Cubs do that when they can just sign someone?
