  1. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 11:32 AM) I've heard of the grammar police but you just went full blown grammar SWAT/FBI/etc. Whatever. No he didn't. Should of isn't correct. I think it should be changed too.
  2. QUOTE (lasttriptotulsa @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 08:47 AM) No doubt. I see them going probably 11-5 without him. Had they had him they could win 12-13 even with a first game loss. They'll win the division for sure. I don't think they can win a Super Bowl without him though. And that's the goal.
  3. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 02:41 AM) Do we have to worry about the Cubs reaching the WS?? Will Pitt take care of Chicago in the one-game playoff? No we don't have to worry about anything. Not sure why that would bother someone. There are 10 teams making the playoffs. Any of them could win the World Series because it's a crapshoot once you get there.
  4. QUOTE (JUSTgottaBELIEVE @ Sep 15, 2015 -> 06:32 AM) Near perfect week 1 for Green Bay. All alone in first at 1-0 in NFC North and NFC contenders Seattle and Philly lost. Only thing that would have made it perfect is if NY didn't choke away their game against Dallas but we will see how they fare now without Dez for 4-6 weeks. Huge game for the Pack this weekend. I'm sure if I said the Packers could be 0-1 with Jordy back, they'd take that deal rather than being in the position they are in.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 01:45 PM) Presumably if they put even a respectable offer on the table for Samardzija it would have been >$15 million. If you added him to the current roster that would have put them having $130 million committed, if he was signed and Alexei's option wasn't picked up that's ~$120 million payroll, close to the highest opening day payroll in team history. If they declined Alexei and offered Heyward, that would put them back in the $130 million payroll range if those were the only major moves. However, I also note that they were looking at a substantial jump in season ticket sales last offseason when they went past $100 million by signing Cabrera. Coming off this season, they may not have the same amount of money they thought would be available when they offered Samardzija that extension. They could backload some deals though. In 2017, they have roughly $70.5 million committed to Abreu, Sale, Q, Melky, Robertson, Duke, and Eaton. That figure doesn't include any arb raises for anyone else either. 2017 $$ Cabrera $17 million Abreu $13 million Robertson $12 million Sale $12 million Quintana $7 million Duke $5.5 million Eaton $4 million. Rodon will still be cheap at that point along with Fulmer and Johnson if they go that route. They should have some wiggle room if you look past 2016.
  6. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 12:41 PM) I'm not going to wager a guess about the ceiling this time after being appropriately chastised for guessing incorrectly last year, but if they pick up Alexei's option and offer arbitration to Garcia and Flowers, they'll already have committed close to $115 million to the 2016 roster, which is comparable to what they spent in total over 2015 without any additional signings. If they spend more than about $5 million it would be the highest payroll the White Sox have ever had. Season Ticket renewal notices haven't gone out yet have they? The org itself might not know their 2016 budget yet too. I know this and you've been saying it for a year now. They planned on signing Samardzija though. How much were they willing to spend on Shark? In theory, they should be able to spend the $$ that was going to Shark on something else.
  7. QUOTE (Boogua @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 11:26 AM) Romo is helped a ton by that OL and run game. He isn't on the same planet as the other guys when asked to throw at a similar volume. The only one I would even consider putting romo over is Manning due to how he looks health wise. Roethlisberger is better than Romo
  8. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 02:24 PM) I would love Gardy to get a shot at our roster. Not me. Gardy is a dinosaur. He's opposed to modern analytics and in this day and age that's just a no go. He's a crusty old bastard too.
  9. QUOTE (greg775 @ Sep 13, 2015 -> 07:43 PM) I wish Sox had better defense, better bullpen and some guys who could hit home runs in the Cell besides Abreu. Why are you unhappy with the bullpen? The bullpen is fine. They can't hit and their defense sucks. Those are the issues.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 14, 2015 -> 05:57 AM) Avi's walk rate this year was higher than Trace's in AAA. His walk rate was low because they wanted him to cut down on the strikeouts. It is what it is. If you want him to walk more, he's going to strikeout more because he's taking more pitches.
  11. QUOTE (AlSoxfan @ Sep 12, 2015 -> 08:53 PM) and will the Sox use that protected pick an sign a FA? I'm not sure if there's much of a difference in picking from the 10th, 11th or 12th pick otherwise I hope not. Stay away from free agents with QO's attached.
  12. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 10:49 AM) Cause cheating doesn't run rampant in college football recruiting? Hey now! Hickory is allowed to enjoy an inferior product if he chooses
  13. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 10:41 AM) it is obvious that you do not have your facts. look at the thread of the last draft. their were some posters who were very insistent on dafting BPA.... better yet, look at this thread, it was mentioned several times. so get your fact right. now when posters state BPA, they should have some stipulations to that statement. Those posters are wrong too. It's not possible.
  14. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 09:12 AM) I read a couple days ago Gardenhire was a done deal. Ausmus is an Ivy League educated ex-catcher. I don't know how he can be blamed for the Tigers sucking this year, but it looks to be a case of a new GM wanting his own guy in there. Rumors that Ausmus could be the guy in San Diego
  15. I think Gardenhire as Manager and Littlefield as VP of Player Development is a good thing for the Sox actually. Yuck.
  16. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 11, 2015 -> 06:00 AM) so this goes to the coined phrase of take the BPA. so what does that mean of drafting and the sox making the selections on next yr draft. are posters going to keep telling others to take the BPA??? Nobody says this. Just you. It's not possible in the baseball draft. Sure, in the first round you'd like to take the best player if possible but the MLB draft is very strategic.
  17. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 03:03 PM) and that comes full circle. with the little things i am concertinaing on is not the full answer. it has to go with a idea, a strategy that the org FO has to but into. the BPA..... does that really work?? last draft Cameron went in the comp pick area.... was he not the BPA somewhere in the first round??? for me and my point of view... maybe, but the sox needed alot of help and there was a criteria of pirioties that the org knows. you take the BPA per your org needs and in the later rounds, they have to do the best that they can. there is not going to be the right answer or wrong ones and when people are involve, there is always going to be different ideas. they should stick to their game plan.... and to go for it. roll the dice. esp in the first 3 rounds, for me..... now someone may think it should be 4 or 5 rnds. so who knows what ever round. some agent and player is going to play russian roulette with the slotted money.... i just hope it is not the sox. Teams didn't take Cameron because he wanted nearly $5 million. Astros were one of only teams with budget to do it. They did it.
  18. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) and what will you do.... avoid this player.... yeah i would take him with the 3rd and roll the dice. but their are some stipulations that the org will need to think of .... internally. More examples: Let's pretend that the Sox have $9 million to spend on the draft. 1st round slot: 4.5 mil 2nd round slot: 1.8 mil 3rd round slot: 1 million 4th round: 740,000.00 and so on. If you took a player in the 3rd and he didn't sign, that's roughly $1 million that you now are not allowed to spend in this draft. It doesn't make sense. Teams have a specific amount of $$ now that they can spend on their top 10 selections. If they go over, penalties are severe. Every player drafted in rounds 11-40 has to be for $100,000 or less, otherwise the remainder goes into the pool for the top 10 selections.
  19. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 01:46 PM) and what will you do.... avoid this player.... yeah i would take him with the 3rd and roll the dice. but their are some stipulations that the org will need to think of .... internally. Yes I would avoid this player because he's not going to sign and you are wasting your time. And you'd lose the right to spend the $$ that you would have used on him. This philosophy makes absolutely zero sense and no team in baseball would do what you are proposing.
  20. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 01:36 PM) i am saying with more intense words. take the BPA.... regardless of anything. so how is that the same theory esp when the sox org didn't follow it and found reason to justify their actions. now you have asked some interesting questions, how bout answering those question instead of diverting the the subject at hand.... You can't take BPA in the baseball draft. It doesn't work that way. Here's a scenario for you: A stud HS player that is a top 25 talent in the draft is on the board in the 3rd rd when the Sox pick. He has said that he wants $5 million or he's going to college. It's well known that this player is headed to college instead of pro. Would you still take this player in the 3rd round because he's technically the best draftable player currently?
  21. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 09:56 AM) and for a long time, they drafted players who they can sign, and forgot about players who had certain agents, those that may wanted a better salary etc..... that has stop b/c of the salary cap but still they still need to be aggressive in their scouting and players/prospects. Okay. I agree with that. I think they are doing that though. They signed Rodon.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 08:55 AM) Yeah terrible for anyone to find any sense of joy through this miserable season. A player actually outperforming his talent? Let's pop this balloon! We must only have players performing at historically awful levels! He's not outperforming his "talent". He's outperforming what was expected though. Maybe the light has gone on finally. He was a high draft pick. Being happy and being unrealistic is completely different. I've said many instances on twitter of people being way over the top about Trayce. That is most likely what the author sees as well. Saladino, Phegley, and many others started out really well too. We shall see.

QUOTE (bmags @ Sep 10, 2015 -> 08:45 AM) Honestly that article is dumb and makes me hate baseball. How many people are even paying attention to the white sox now? 5? 6? Definitely required a self-righteous "let me counter this overwhelming hype machine for a white sox late season call-up that no national baseball reporter even mentioned" I think Sox fans are though.

QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 07:02 PM) Bad Badler hasn't seen his approach. He goes to right often and isn't overly aggresive to me at all. He has though in 5 minor league seasons. If I were a scout that has seen his last 5 years, I'd have the same opinion. Trayce is going to have to prove it. His minor league career doesn't suggest that his current run is sustainable. With that being said, I think he's definitely a major leaguer. Probably still a 4th OF type though.
  25. QUOTE (LDF @ Sep 9, 2015 -> 10:02 AM) excellent post. i think that the sox still does select draft picks that they feel as they can sign. however i think they also manipulate their draft strategy to make it happen, saving money elsewhere to reach the amount they will need to sign the player. this is pretty much what some teams are doing now, but with more fanfare. i just hope they don't fall into a rut in picking safe picks. but i also agree there is no more, not going after specific players whose agent is this person or that person. i think they need to continue to be aggressive in their selections.... but either way, i agree with you and again excellent analysis. Of course they only draft players that they can sign. Why would they draft players that won't sign? This happened around draft time as well. You clamored for them to take all these players that were definitely going to college. That doesn't make any sense.
