NCAA basketball 2014-15 thread
Y2Jimmy0 replied to southsider2k5's topic in Alex’s Olde Tyme Sports Pub
Sounds like Rick Barnes will resign at Texas. Arizona State, Tennessee, and St. John's all came open today. Tim Doyle says Steve Lavin to DePaul. -
QUOTE (Mike F. @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 11:44 AM) I sure as hell know that I would not want Aiken at #8. He's already gone through so many injury issues. It's not worth taking the risk with him IMO. I think he's the best pitcher of the bunch. He has no leverage either. I would imagine that he doesn't want to go back to school. I'd be perfectly fine with adding Aiken to the system or taking the 9th pick next year as compensation.

QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 10:11 AM) Were contract details provided for M. Foster deal? No they were not.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 09:28 AM) They went through his and McShay's picks the last several years a few months ago.. I think they just used their final mock drafts. They did underperform overall, but McShay scored big for JJ Watt to Dallas. Dallas still drafted an All Pro, but it wasn't JJ Watt. My point is that mock draft accuracy is dumb and shouldn't be what they are graded on. They mock players to "what they think will happen" and not what "they think should happen". WE should look at their overall big boards and see if the players at the top end up as the best players in the draft.

QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 08:17 PM) I don't see how the hit they took last year applies now, since the concerns they had with his elbow proved out and he is now having TJS. They don't have to say anything, there is no road that needs to be taken high or low. They saw something, it worried them, they lowballed the player, he refused the deal and bet on himself. Unfortunately he lost his bet and Houston looks better for letting him walk away. This isn't the whole story though. Houston took him at #1 because he agreed to a deal at $6.5 million. They drafted him. He got there, they found the small UCL and then offered $5 million. I wouldn't have played for that team either. He bet on himself and he lost. He will get drafted again though, probably in the top 10.
-
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Mar 27, 2015 -> 09:09 AM) Has anybody ever gone back and checked how his "grades" turn out? Big boards are usually fairly accurate. It's not about mock draft success. It's which players that he had rated highly on the big board turned into good pros. That's what would need to be checked.
-
I think showing the acquisitions in their old uniforms with Sox announcers in the background is kind of cool actually.
-
Well this goes back to my scenario from a couple months ago that many on the board weren't down with. I would draft Aiken. If he chooses not to sign, White Sox could potentially have 3 1st round picks in 2016. Either you put Aiken into your farm system or you get to load up like crazy next year.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 01:37 PM) Maybe Danny Boy needed something like this to put him back in his place a little bit in his own mind. He used to be really good before he started believing he knew more about everything than anyone else and put the biggest idiot callers on the air to make himself look good. I hope the Score makes him take Sensitivity training or something of the sort. He's not going to change though. He's just going to watch what he tweets. He has said far worse things on his show than were said last night. Remember all of the stuff about Britney Griner being a man and all sorts of other things? He's mentioned Aiyana Cristal's boobs on the show before. Said that he watched CBS in the morning because he likes Megan Glaros' rack as well. None of those things went viral though.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 01:16 PM) What male sports media members has he said on Twitter were bad at their jobs? Personally I don't think it's his job to put that out there if he has. He apologized for offending her. If someone told you that you were bad at your job, but I don't want to offend you, I just want it out there for the world to discuss, you would probably be offended. Funny thing about Spiegel, his boobs match up with anybody's. Guys all the time: David Diehl, Harold Reynolds, Tim McCarver, Erin Andrews (who is also female). To name a few. Wasn't tweeted though. Those were all talked about on the show. The comment about the boobs doesn't happen and there is no apology. Spiegel would not be apologizing for criticizing her work today. That's not what he's sorry about.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 11:54 AM) But his apology was questionable at best. He apologized not for saying someone sucked at their job, but for not keeping the conversation on track, and then was sad he offended her. The initial tweet not with the sexual stuff was dumb. He didn't want to offend her, he just wanted a Twitter conversation about how bad she is at her job. And the tweet he deleted was probably the most offensive of all. I agree about McNeil. Say what you want about the Barney Rubble lookalike, but he does own up to his screw ups. This was a typical guy conversation many of us have had plenty of, but to be a sports media member and have it on Twitter is mindbogglingly dumb. He apologized for chiming in and continuing with the conversation about her boobs. He did not apologize for saying she's awful at her job because he shouldn't have to. He criticizes male media members for being bad at their jobs too. There are only 2 things I know about Aiyana Cristal: She's really bad at her job and she has huge boobs. I wouldn't put it on twitter though even if it is true.

QUOTE (Chilihead90 @ Mar 24, 2015 -> 05:53 PM) Maybe not next episode, but it would certainly make for a S1 finale type reveal. They should show Jesse in Walt's science class at some point. That'd be awesome.

QUOTE (Athomeboy_2000 @ Mar 26, 2015 -> 08:33 AM) Not a good day for Bernsie and Spiegel, but mostly Bernsie. https://twitter.com/RegressedPDO/status/580933766488715264 Ehh. Nothing is going to happen to either of them. I'd have that same conversation with a buddy. I'm pretty surprised they put it on twitter though. It seems Spiegel's original point was that she's bad at her job which is true. Weird that it went that direction.

QUOTE (kevo880 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 03:34 PM) The more I think about the draft and our needs the more I think our first two picks will be DB and WR, not necessarily in that order. OT would not surprise me either. Could get a starter at 39.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:54 PM) You have convictions on your record when you apply for a job and they do a background check, most of the time you don't get the job. Of course he has no convictions, but if he was an accountant and he was fired, and it was out in public as this is, chances are he would have a hard time finding employment. And thanks for the crash course in what happens when applying for a job. I was wondering about that.

Unless he's really good at saving people money.

QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:50 PM) And if he is able to work in the NFL, I would hope the Bears would be above hiring him. Why would they be above hiring him though? They have Ka'Deem Carey on their roster. People willingly cheered for Brandon Marshall for the last 3 seasons as well in a Bears uniform. They are a football team. They have to weigh risk/reward every day. Apparently they think this risk is worth it.
-
QUOTE (bmags @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:47 PM) I think he should be able to work, just why should he be able to work in the NFL? Well because he's a football player? That's his job. When accountants get a domestic assault charge and get fired they most likely go to another accounting firm and get a job. If you want to play professional football in the United States, well the NFL is where you go.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 10:23 AM) lol at expecting Cub fans to be rational. Every Cubs fan I've talked to thinks he should be in Iowa. I don't generally associate with idiots though.
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:27 PM) So you don't know, but because the Bears could use a DE, there's a pretty good chance he is innocent. How do you explain the bruises on his fiance's neck? I never tried to explain the bruises on his fiancee's neck. I don't care who they sign. I've always said this. I compartmentalize things like this. I want to be entertained on Sunday. I don't really care what these guys do on their time. The majority of people have jumped to the conclusion that he's guilty already though when he may not be. From what I read, there is no case. Especially if the defense attorney has the surveillance video that he claims to have. I can't speak on the domestic assault case. Charges weren't filed and that doesn't mean he's innocent but should the man never be able to work again?
-
QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 01:01 PM) Based on what? Did you read the affidavit's on the case? They are public. He may have. He may not have either though. Evidence suggests otherwise. They were drinking and having a good time at McDonald's home. Were both drunk. McDonald's story is that they had sex consensually and then they spent the entire day together the following day. He claims to have thought that they hit it off. After she left that night, she said that he took advantage of her while she was drunk. The charge was rape by intoxication. He absolutely could have done that. Maybe he didn't though. I wasn't there. Neither was anyone else.
-
There's a pretty good chance that Ray McDonald didn't sexually assault that woman. Doesn't seem like that changes anything though. People's torches are out.

Which Cuban would you most want to add to Sox?

Soler. Gonna be a monster. -
QUOTE (LDF @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 05:42 AM) i don't know the rules, can the bull buy out Rose contract, is that the right terminology?? They could use the stretch provision if they wanted to. Rose is owed $40 million over the next 2 seasons. If they used the stretch provision, they could release him and pay $8 million per year on their cap over the next 5 seasons. I'd rather just take the 2 year big hit.

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Mar 25, 2015 -> 09:06 AM) Baez going north, and Bryant not... Cub fans are going to burn down Wrigley Field. Cubs fans should burn down Wrigley Field if Bryant doesn't start in Iowa.
