  1. QUOTE (Leonard Zelig @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 02:52 PM) Kind of difficult to rate that deal without knowing who the other Cub is. Not really. It wasn't Castro or Rizzo. Those are really only 2 ML pieces that matter. It was speculated that it could have been Dejesus, Schierholtz, or even James Russell.
  2. QUOTE (fathom @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 02:49 PM) Since when is Garza this must-have ace? That would have been an incredible deal for the Cubs. That's one hell of a deal. It was speculated that the other play was Schierholtz or James Russell going to Texas.
  3. Here was the supposed deal for Garza. Would have been a nice deal for the Cubs and it bodes well for White Sox return on Peavy in my opinion. Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 3m #Cubs-#Rangers stalled deal was Garza + another #Cub to #Rangers for Neil Ramirez, Luis Sardinas, Mike Olt, CJ Edwards per @JeffWilson_FWST
  4. This was supposedly the package agreed upon in the Garza deal. This should bode well for the Sox trading Peavy as this is a nice haul Chris Cotillo ‏@ChrisCotillo 3m #Cubs-#Rangers stalled deal was Garza + another #Cub to #Rangers for Neil Ramirez, Luis Sardinas, Mike Olt, CJ Edwards per @JeffWilson_FWST
  5. Buddy Bell joined Rongey on White Sox weekly today. Rongey asked about Hawkins and I will try to paraphrase what Bell said. Buddy emphasized the shoulder injury a lot. Said he's still coming back from it and mentioned that he has 16 HR's and 47 RBI while missing 1 month of the season. He stated that Hawkins would have over 20 homers and 60 RBi's if he had stayed healthy. He took a shot at people that have said he should be in Kannapolis and mentioned Keith Law by name saying he has no idea what he is talking about. Bell alluded to something that many of us had mentioned. He basically said that Hawkins would learn nothing by heading back down and dominating Kannapolis. He said that part of the plan is to force Hawkins to make the necessary adjustments at Winston Salem because he could continue his bad habits and still dominate a lower level.

  7. Has anyone heard Alex Rios' comments today about the incident last night? He questioned Robin Ventura and the way that the incident was handled. He thinks that RV sent a message to the team but Rios would have appreciated if Ventura called him into the office after the game instead of pulling him. Wow.
  8. SI has the Sox finishing 65-97 with the 3rd pick in the draft.
  9. QUOTE (Marty34 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) I think the return for Rios will ultimately be underwhelming therefore I think the Sox should seriously consider dealing Reed as a way to improve the overall talent haul they get back at the deadline. Guys I would like to see gone: Crain Lindstrom Peavy Rios Ramirez Dunn De Aza Reed Marty if this happens it will be a really fun two weeks. I am completely on board with trading Addison Reed. I like Reed a lot, but if they can get a great return for him they have to do it. If the White Sox trust their scouting then they may think that they can use Daniel Webb or Petricka as the closer at some point. I am always a fan of selling high on young closers.
  10. This is a nice piece about Peavy's trade value by Jon Hey man. I think we could get lucky and receive a nice little haul for Peavy. http://www.cbssports.com/mlb/blog/jon-heym...the-market-star
  11. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:59 AM) No need to settle for anything with Peavy. He will be in the same situation Garza is now, next year. Absolutely. I'd love to get a nice haul now and put Erik Johnson into the rotation but they don't have to trade Jake. He's a big trade chip in the offseason and at this time next year.
  12. QUOTE (Joshua Strong @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 03:18 AM) I think Jacob Gatewood has the highest ceiling and potential in the draft class. He won the Jr. Home Run Derby at Citi Field against Kel Johnson, where he it 13 HR (Johnson hit 9). As of now I think Gatewood is a top 3 pick. However, they have an entire season to play.
  13. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:45 AM) What kind of package you think we could get for Peavy and Crain? Not sure. If Peavy pitches well it should be a nice haul. I would rather deal with Arizona because I want Chris Owings.
  14. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:41 AM) This is going to get interesting over Peavy and Crain. Both the Red Sox and DBacks love both of these guys. Hopefully both fighting over them will drive the price up. I could see a package of Cecchini, Britton, Keury De La Cruz, and Margot would be a good package for Peavy and Crain from the Red Sox. I want Bryce Brent from the Red Sox.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 12:54 AM) Just wondering what you all think K-Dubs most common mode of operation was. It sure was always fun this time of year and during the off season with Trader Kenny. Thanks for the memories. Scout the Arizona Fall League every year and incessantly chase those players from other teams.
  16. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 09:12 AM) To be fair, the beat writers and broadcasts would be the last place you would hear something like this. That spineless group is afraid of hurting anyone's feelings. You can usually tell though. My girlfriend is a Pirates fan. We were watching the Cubs-Pirates game last year and it was one of the games where like 3 players were traded mid game. They were all hugging their teammates and Kasper speculated that they were probably traded. Again though, who knows what Sox broadcast would do because Kenny added talent all of the time haha.
  17. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 20, 2013 -> 10:27 AM) I'd love a package built around Cecchini. Boston and Arizona are definitely the teams that we want interested. Those are two systems loaded with position players.
  18. Nick Cafardo ‏@nickcafardo 16m The Red Sox have scouted both Alex Rios and Michael Young in the past week. Will be watching Jake Peavy closely in his next couple of starts
  19. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 01:51 PM) Stanton would cost the Pirates way more than Polanco. You're talking about Polanco + Hanson + Taillon Yes I understand that but I just meant that Polanco could be used in a deal to acquire someone like that.

  21. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 11:59 AM) Before Garza goes, Peavy is the best pitcher on the market. Levine is high on drugs. He is injured though. I think it means there are multiple teams in the Garza hunt. Once Texas gets him, all of those teams must turn their attention to Peavy and Bud Norris. There isn't much else.
  22. QUOTE (DirtySox @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 10:55 AM) Polanco is projected to be a much better player than Barnes or Bell. He can replace Rios when that contract is up. Polanco is a stud. I don't think he's getting traded unless the Pirates went all out and got a guy like Stanton.
  23. Bruce Levine mentioned this morning that once Garza goes, Peavy becomes best SP on the market. He said scouts from 10-12 will be in attendance tomorrow night to watch Peavy pitch.
  24. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 19, 2013 -> 09:28 AM) Rangers want Garza in time to start tomorrow. Talking about moving on to Bud Norris if they can't get a deal done soon. Sounds like Cubs are holding out for Luke Jackson.
  25. Alexei, Rios, and cash to PIttsburgh for something like: Hanson, Kingham, Tabata, and Mercer. Is that enough? Too much? Barrett Barnes is a guy that the Sox were rumored to be taking with the draft pick that they selected Keon Barnum with. Lambo is old I do believe but he is hitting a ton of homers in their system. Also, Stetson Allie is a guy I'd take a flyer on. He didn't work out as a pitcher but he is killing the ball in A Ball as a hitter. Pittsburgh has a ton of prospects. I would think Polanco, Taillon, and Glasnow are guys that they'd like to keep but other guys should be in play.
