Rebuild: So Far Better Than Could Have Hoped For
QUOTE (Marty34 @ May 27, 2013 -> 11:02 AM) Selling high on Peavy is a must, imo. I understand why you think that and if they got a couple of studs for him under team control for the next 6 years I would not be upset. Just don't think it's in the cards.

Rebuild: So Far Better Than Could Have Hoped For
I understand the point of the pro rebuilding people. I am usually one of them. Many of the posters on this board have convinced me however that this type of scenario will not work with the White Sox. They have great pitching. Sale/Quintana/Santiago is a great trio of LH starters. Peavy is cheap #2 starter in the AL. Danks is under contract and Erik Johnson is on his way. They have the pitching to compete. They need to add offense most likely to really be realistic about competing. Trading Rios and Peavy does this but it is so counterproductive at this point. Like others have mentioned I think they have enough to deal for a bat and sign 2 hitters next offseason. If they signed Granderson and Morales and then traded for another hitter you are in the mix with the pitching that you currently have. It's all about pitching. Most teams rebuild because they don't have pitching. The Sox pitching is plenty good enough to win. They just need to add bats and they will have some $$ to spend in the offseason.

Angel Sanchez Appreciation Thread
QUOTE (Soxfest @ May 25, 2013 -> 01:40 PM) White Sox sent INF Angel Sanchez outright to Triple-A Charlotte. A Rule 5 pick, Sanchez cleared waivers and was rejected when offered back to the Angels. He no longer has to be stashed on the 25-man roster and will continue to provide depth in the minors. Per Rotoworld This move also clears a spot on the 40 man roster.

Santiago vs. Axelrod
I know that Axelrod has done the job in the rotation. However, Santiago is the better pitcher and a better option long term. I hate Santiago in the bullpen. Not because he isn't good but because he is much more valuable as a starter. I just don't understand why they don't want the better pitcher starting. You have all said it's because they need him in the bullpen. I hate that reason. He's a starter. So start him. Have someone else take the bullpen role. I hate when this organization does this. If Santiago becomes a #3 starter it's much much more valuable than him being a lights out setup man. Obviously, Santiago is not Chris Sale, but we all had these same discussions when they prematurely put Sale in the bullpen last year.

Early ChiSox Draft Ideas
QUOTE (fathom @ May 23, 2013 -> 03:40 PM) Jonathan Gray with a 3 hit, 12K shutout vs Baylor today. He really should be the #1 pick. Maybe so. And if that happens the Cubs would still be ecstatic with Appel.

Angel Sanchez Appreciation Thread
I was hoping Beckham would be in uniform for Sunday's game when I am in attendance. Maybe he will and Greene goes out.

Tyler Flowers vs. Hector Gimenez
QUOTE (pettie4sox @ May 23, 2013 -> 09:09 AM) Will he get called up or are they going to let him develop? I do not think Phegley will be up until after the ASB if he even comes up this year. He is already like 25 years old I think though. He has been through a lot and he has always had a nice bat. Hahn probably wants to give Flowers most of the season though after taking the chance on him.

Vent Time
Nate Jones had major control issues all the way through the minor leagues. What is going on should not be that surprising. I don't think we should overreact and never let him pitch ever again though. He needs to throw strikes.

Baseball on TV for the Out-of-Town Fan
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ May 23, 2013 -> 07:02 AM) Sweet. It's always nice to avoid Hawk for a game. I always listen to Len when I can for Cubs/Sox games. I agree. Len and Deshais is a good booth. I will give them a listen.

5/21 Games
QUOTE (bbilek1 @ May 22, 2013 -> 04:02 PM) Okay, I can see where he's coming from. Aside from following him on twitter, I have actually met the kid (when he threw out the first pitch at the Cell) and in person, he was actually very polite. Being another 19 year old kid I feel I can make a decent judgment on him but Balta is right; dissecting his twitter should lead to more of a first impression/perception rather than a final judgement. I do expect him to mature, all I am saying is he has plenty room to mature. FWIW, if I were him, and I was hitting .177 and striking out 60 percent of the time, I wouldn't be retweeting anything and everything with my name on it. I imagine the same people that are questioning the social media habits of a 19 year old also think that Jay Cutler's body language means that he doesn't care about winning.

5/21 Games
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ May 22, 2013 -> 08:56 AM) And in this case, that is fine. I think if they had demoted him based purely on performance, going A+ to A, would not have made any sense. But he's been out of play for a while now. And I'll throw this out there, TIFWIW... reading his Twitter account, seeing his quotes in interviews... I have makeup concerns with him right now. Maturity issues, principally. Not unexpected for a 19 year old 1st rounder, but, I think he's got some learning to do. And that will have as much effect on him as any mechanical issues. Not sure if going to Kannapolis is the right move though. Maybe he goes there and dominates and fixes what ails him by gaining more confidence. OTOH, he could go down there and keep the same bad habits while still dominating and never fixing his flaws. I know the strikeout rate in Winston-Salem is awful but I think the idea is that the struggles in WS will cause him to change and fix the strikeout issues. I don't have the answer. Just throwing it out there.

Vent Time
QUOTE (Noonskadoodle @ May 23, 2013 -> 08:59 AM) FARRRRR from it. You honestly think the way he managed the pen yesterday was fine? Running Omo FREAKIN grosso out there for TWO innings in a 1 run game? Letting him load the bases up before going to get him after he already allowed 2 guys aboard the previous inning. Then you have a guy in Lindstrom who has been getting ground balls consistently all season out of the pen who you could bring in when in that bases loaded situation, but instead you bring in a guy who throws one of the straightest fastballs in the game? I am one who usually backs RV & tries to defend him when ppl get on him, but I couldn't believe what I was watching last night. & to say it didn't matter the Sox only scored 2 runs.....really?....you knew they were only gonna score 2 runs in the 7th inning? Using Omogrosso for a 2nd inning was fine. Whatever. How about this concept: Score some runs and it won't matter. Buchholz was awesome last night. Tip the cap.

5/18 White Sox @ Angels
No Hamilton today and Pujols go to DH. Dan Hayes @DanHayesCSN 53m Angels with a new lineup minus Hamilton: Aybar SS, Trout CF, Pujols DH, Trumbo RF, Kendrick 2B, Callaspo 3B, Harris 1B, Iannetta C, Shuck LF

5/18 White Sox @ Angels
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ May 18, 2013 -> 02:25 PM) Sorry Bilek, if the Sox win, the person who made that game thread, keeps making them until the team loses. Soxtalk tradition. I am sure that will be the reason if the Sox lose. I posted in the other thread. Wasted my time I guess.

Danks could start Friday vs Miami
QUOTE (fathom @ May 18, 2013 -> 01:52 PM) Greene and Wells I like Wells vs LHP but that's probably the move. Do we get a straight RL platoon at 3B with Keppinger and Gillaspie then do you think?

Danks could start Friday vs Miami
Scott Merkin @scottmerkin 14m If things go well for John Danks tonight in Buffalo, look for him to start Friday against the Marlins at home Merkin also mentioned that Robin and the staff discussed a 6 man rotation and it sounds unlikely. Merkin thinks that the rotation will be Peavy and the 4 lefties. What does this do to Axelrod? Does he become the long man with Omogrosso going back to Charlotte? Also, Beckham and Angel Sanchez should be back within a week as well. Who goes down or gets DFA'd to make room?

Early ChiSox Draft Ideas
Guys is there any consensus on how much say KW will have on the draft? I know that he has been doing a lot of scouting this year. In past years, I would have thought that if Stanford OF Austin Wilson is available, he would automatically be the pick. Now they could go in any direction and it wouldn't shock me. I would be excited if they took Wilson. I loved him coming out of HS and Stanford hitters notoriously have questions because of that coaching staff there. What does the board think about if Wilson was the pick at #17?

Early ChiSox Draft Ideas
QUOTE (fathom @ May 16, 2013 -> 12:10 PM) Keith Law has a mock draft up also, but I'm not an ESPN insider. Keith Law has the Sox taking Jacksonville RHP Chris Anderson. 6'4 225 lbs. Law mentions that he has also heard the Sox linked to Gonzaga LHP Marco Gonzales but mentions that it seems too early to take him.

5/15 White Sox @ Twins, 12:10 WGN
QUOTE (KyYlE23 @ May 15, 2013 -> 01:46 PM) Span I will give you, but Revere wasnt expensive. The guy has only been in the majors a few years, they had a few arb years left, FA in 2018. he is only making 515K right now Revere was not expensive. He did have a .313 bop though and did not walk very much. With the glut of OF's in their system, they wanted the pitching.

Should White Sox Hold or Fold?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 15, 2013 -> 11:33 AM) That's a silly question to ask. Is Chris Sale going to be on the team the next time the Sox win the World Series? Probably not, so let's trade him. Matt Adams has a .858 OPS in his career. He also has only been up to the plate 126 times. He has 8 walks and 30 strikeouts. None of these are popping out to me, and the only thing that does is that he's inflated his numbers due to 35 plate appearances this year. He put up solid numbers in the minors, but nothing that indicates to me that he is going to be even an .850 OPS bat. .298/.373/.503/.876, 20 homers, 50 walks, 85 strikeouts, 23 years old, split between AA and AAA (Int'l League) .300/.357/.566/.923, 32 homers, 40 walks, 90 strikeouts, 22 years old, only done in AA. These are Matt Adams' numbers. The first player then played the next 2 years in the PCL and put up an OPS around .950 with better strikeout and walk numbers...and Soxtalk collectively freaked out because Brandon Allen was going to be the next big thing. He's now in his 5th MLB organization and 6th organization overall (as he spent a small amount of time in Japan too). So would I trade Alexei Ramirez, a guy who is a top 3 defensive shortstop who shows good contact ability, straight up for a 1B prospect who could very easily be a dime a dozen AAAA? No chance in hell. I'd consider dealing Ramirez to the Cardinals at some point in time, but it's going to cost them more than Matt Adams, that's for goddamn sure. If Chris Sale isn't on their next World Series team then what are we doing here? The goal should be to get back to the World Series. It's a failure otherwise. If they aren't going back within the next 6 years while Sale is here then they may as well trade everyone like Marty is suggesting.

Should White Sox Hold or Fold?
QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ May 15, 2013 -> 11:19 AM) Again, I will ask the question. Would you trade Ramirez straight up right now for Mike Adams? If the answer is no then that is lunacy. I want the better asset. Young power hitting 1B who is cost controlled for the next 6 years is more valuable to this team than a 32 year old SS with a bad contract who gets on base at a .300 clip. I like Ramirez but lets not be crazy here. Is Alexei Ramirez going to be on the team the next time the Sox win the World Series? Probably not. Obviously, I meant Matt Adams.

Should White Sox Hold or Fold?
QUOTE (witesoxfan @ May 15, 2013 -> 11:15 AM) You're right, Flowers to shortstop! As a fan, I care who plays shortstop. I really don't think there are many logical candidates out there to play SS right now who will be available this offseason who are better than Alexei. Again, I will ask the question. Should White Sox Hold or Fold?
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ May 15, 2013 -> 09:57 AM) Matt Adams has been mentioned about thirty times in this thread. Is there anything more to this other than it being fathom's unrealistic fantasy? The Sox could never swindle the Cardinals like that. Probably not. He doesn't really have a full time spot for them though.
