Grandal exits game, apparent leg injury
It’s about 40 man space. Once those guys go on, they have to stay on.

Zavala actually makes the most sense if it’s short term. They’ll just DFA him again to clear the roster spot when Yaz is ready. Can’t do that with Perez

I think Montgomery is 1 for sure and it’s going to be tough to not have Sosa at 2. What he’s done at AA is insane and he’s 22 and plays the middle infield. Ramos could be 3. I’m just not sure I’d put him there. Montgomery can play shortstop and there’s real first base risk with Ramos. Both are good prospects though for sure. This isn’t really part of this discussion but I’m curious to see what the Sox do with Ramos. He’s probably two years away from the majors potentially and he needs 40-man protection this off-season. I think he’s one of their most likely trade pieces

I think at this point, I’d probably go: Montgomery, Sosa, Colas, Vera, Burke, Ramos and Rodriguez in some order.

Where would you rank Ramos in the Sox system?
-
6/10 Games
I agree but if Ramos is a top 100 prospect then the Sox have 5 top 100 prospects

Nah it’s not enough power honestly for a corner guy. I’m not even sure I’d have Ramos as a top 5 prospect in the system right now. I like him though

He’s transitioned to the mound apparently. Just could never hit

Yeah they’re gonna be brutal. This is kind of what happens when you employ the strategy the Sox do though. Most teams top international signings are in the complex league now but the Sox guys are stateside because they were older

Here is the AZL preview I wrote today for anyone interested: https://soxmachine.com/general/2022-white-sox-affiliate-preview-arizona-complex-league-rookie/ And here’s the DSL preview: https://soxmachine.com/general/2022-white-sox-affiliate-preview-dominican-summer-league-rookie/ No Erick Hernandez or Loidel Chapellí in DSL today. Weird

Yes. They signed a bunch of players out of Venezuela recently. Here's the roster: https://soxmachine.com/general/2022-white-sox-affiliate-preview-dominican-summer-league-rookie/

They also have the Sox taking Florida prep Roman Anthony in round 2. I would be ecstatic with that draft.

The White Sox international class is 20 players. My roster preview for FutureSox should publish today.

Hahn and Getz were in Tennessee watching this week. I wonder if they’re going to Charlotte

$2 million isn’t very much money though. If he’s a big leaguer at all, it’s a great signing.

If the board falls this way, I think the White Sox take a prep hitter.

They went way overslot in rounds 2,3, and 5. It’s the only way to do that. I’d rather have Kath, Burke and McDougal instead of playing it straight

Didn’t Lopez get hurt? Maybe he’s replacing him and VV stays in pen

2022 MLB Draft Thread
The third day 11-20 is basically more beneficial than late day two now. The White Sox will absolutely be “punting” picks. With a tiny bonus pool, they’ll try to spend close to $6 million on their first 4 guys. To pay for those players, you need to draft seniors in 5-10 for like $10K. It’s smart and lots of teams do this. In rounds 11-20, you can spend $125K without it counting against your pool. For example, taking a college arm ranked in top 200 in 7th round and paying him $200K costs $200K against the pool. Doing it in round 11 counts $75K only. For FutureSox, I always list the names in order of bonus given instead of round because it’s much more significant. In order to use the pool space, you have to sign all the players in the first 10 rounds. That’s basically why it’s done this way. Even the punted picks have value though. Horn and Weems were used in trades. Sousa is in the big leagues. Gil Luna will pitch in the majors. My advice is to pay more attention to the players chosen on day 3 than in rounds 5-10.

There are some issues on the pitching side for sure. Can’t make chicken salad out of chicken shit though. They needed more from the prep arms but 2020 really hurt. Just haven’t spent a ton of resources on college arms that weren’t cheap seniors.

Yeah it’s tough to do though with their draft strategy. They never have much money to spend so if you give slot bonuses in round one, take a bunch of prep players and sprinkle in a 5 round draft, it’s puts you in a bind.

Trade deadline
In this scenario, I’d move any reliever and Jose Abreu but I doubt they’d trade anyone under control. They’ll be division favorites once again next year regardless.
