  1. Seattle has always been a big spender...the same can’t be said for San Diego.
  2. It’s far more likely the Padres heard of low offers being out there and decided to see if they could get him on their terms. It seems incredibly unlikely they entered the process so late in the game if they were willing to pay $300M.
  3. If we miss out on him, I’m egging every house in Winnetka just to make sure I get Hahn’s.
  4. I’ll keep repeating this, but 90% of leaks come with an agenda. All these Padres rumors are being leaked for a reason. IMO, the most obvious one is to scare the White Sox into increasing their bid.
  5. Yup, I don’t think Moustakas signing with the Brewers means much. He’s simply not that good and it’s not crazy to think the Padres just don’t want him.
  6. Probably not, because $5M wouldn’t come close to making up the differences in state income taxes & likely marketing opportunists. Regardless, glad you’d take some enjoyment out of us missing out on Machado.
  7. Lol at the thought of there being mystery teams in the mix.
  8. Carlos Carrasco is a five win pitcher, I’d be more than happy to get that out of Lopez.
  9. I said it before, but if we could get him for like 4/$60M or so I’d be all over that.
  10. Exactly, missing on these guys would turn the Sox into the Bulls for me where I’d basically have to say “fuck this, let me know when they’re good again and/or when these clowns running this thing are gone”. It would just be a kick to the dick in terms of having any optimism.
  11. If we don’t get one of them, our front office will have proven itself incapable of landing a legit star. There will never be a more favorable market than right now and that’s the problem I have with missing. I would not give up on the team completely, but I’d be 100% done with this ownership group & front office and would a significant amount of hope.
  12. If Hahn doesn’t land Machado or Harper, there will be no more optimism from me and I’ll be taking a lengthy break from Soxtalk just like I did after Kopech went down. For now, I remain optimistic these guys aren’t complete clowns and get this shit done. They’ve planned this for a long time for this and deserve the benefit of the doubt. Also, I will never be a straight hater like Balta. Would rather just not post at all if all I’ve got is negative things to say.
  13. Isn’t Heyman a Boras plant?
  14. Just want to state while I’m optimistic we land Machado, if god forbid we lose out on him (and in particular to the Padres) it would be an absolute gut punch. As embarrassing as it is to admit this, I’ve probably spent a good 100+ hours on this site since the offseason began and I’m sure there are many other posters here equally invested. The front office should be cleaned out if they can’t get this done with basically no financial constraints & limited teams competing for his services. Hahn & KW hyped up our expectations and then went out and got his two best friends. If we lost out to the Yankees I would have eventually accepted, but there is zero excuse to be outbid by the Padres. The front office simply need to get this done. Again, I fully believe Manny will be a White Sox and am not trying to get anyone down, but I needed to get that off my chest with some heat that Harper may be signing with the Phillies soon and potentially one whale being off the table.
  15. For Dunning, I think many of us were afraid he might need TJS when he had his elbow problem last year. Obviously that turned out not to be the case, but until he pitches for an extended stretch a small part of me will have those TJS fears in the back of my mind.
  16. He’s definitely a wild card at this point, but at least we know the ceiling is high as hell when things are going right. He just can’t lose any more development time after the disaster that was last season.
  17. Jesus fucking Christ. Him and Dunning have me spooked until they can prove their 2018 arm troubles are behind them.
  18. It’s amazing to me how many losers are out there on Twitter that actually pretend to be baseball insiders for the sake of attention...so fucking pathetic.
  19. I think those metrics have merit in the sense that he did have stretches last year where he got lucky, but I don’t think they are predictive of how he’ll pitch going forward. When everything was clicking for Lopez last year he looked studly IMO and he obviously finished the year strong. I definitely see him having a big 2019 and possibly finishing with a 4 win season.
  20. I’m expecting big things from Lopez next year. I really think he has the stuff to be a high-end #3 starter and I believe that could happen as soon as 2019.
  21. I’m not suggesting Hansen will become a bonafide TOR starter down the road, but I think he’ll rebound substantially next year because honestly there is nowhere but up for him at this point.
  22. Majors: Lopez Moncada Abreu Minors: Robert Hansen Sheets
  23. I’m starting to think this guy just may be legit.
