He has pretty good plate discipline. If the OF defense improves a bit and he recovers some of his power he can be an effective corner reserve.

Alex Call has been been pretty damn good this year. His slash line is currently .269/.379/.452/.831 with a 15.1% BB rate really standing out. IMO he’s pushing Gonzalez for that #6 spot behind the big five and has regained his prospect status from a few year’s back.

I will say the best case scenario for us this year would be to start off horrible, play substantially better in the second half as young players develop & more prospects get called up (plus Rodon), and still end up with a top 5 pick in next year’s draft. That’s still very possible & something I’m optimistic will happen.

I will say this, it’s really hard to ignore what India is doing this year. We’re talking about a guy in the premier college baseball conference batting .384 with a 20% BB rate & a .396 ISO. For comparison, Madrigal batter .380 with an 11% BB rate & .152 iso last year. Obviously you don’t draft just based off stats and Madrigal has an interesting set of tools despite the size concerns, but India is certainly intriguing in his own right. It doesn’t sound like he has a true carrying tool, but he’s more than solid across the board with very good defensive abilities at 3B. I said this in the other thread, but if all else is equal I’d take Madrigal over India given the former’s significantly higher floor. However, if you can get India on a big underslot deal that might be the better overall play given the depth in this year’s draft.

I’ve got two one year olds as well and am far more optimistic about them based on when our window should open. Just not a good time to convince a four year old to become a Sox fan given how things stand in Chicago. My wife makes that clear to him on a daily basis.

I wish man, but I don’t want him going to his first Sox game in Cubs gear if we can pull this one off today. Has to be all or nothing and now it’s in the hands of the baseball gods.

Giolito (1-4, 7.25 ERA) vs. Hendricks (3-2, 3.02 ERA). Sox broadcast is on NBCSCH and it appears the is on MLBN for out of market viewers. I hate using a message board to talk about my personal life, but this is a huge game for me. I made an unwise decision to marry a diehard Cubs fan and both of us of dream of having our kids follow in our fandom. Our four year old son has never gone to a baseball game because we both want his first experience to be at our own park. We have finally decided that today’s game will settle matters once & for all. This may seem stupid to most of you, but the thought of my son’s first baseball experience being at Wrigley covered in Cubs gear makes me sick. I consider this game a must win and hope Giolito can regain form and help us avoid a sweep. God knows we could all use a win after these last two games. GO SOX!!!

Platooning real prospects in the minors is one of the dumbest things I have ever seen.

100% agree on this. A guy like Collins probably looks horrible on some days and more than passable on others. If a scout catches him on the wrong day, suddenly he has no chance at sticking at catcher. The Sox have comprehensive tape on him and should know better than anyone his likelihood of sticking at catcher. Their public optimism tells me he is not as bad as these reports make him out to be.
