  1. Realistically, what do we think Madrigal’s upside is? Can he become 4 to 5 WAR player? I just think picking top four (when we may not have this opportunity for quite some time) we have to select a guy who could be a potential star & Madrigal seems to be more about floor than ceiling from what I can tell.
  2. QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 03:27 PM) Extrapolated out over the same amount of at bats as he had last year and that’s 70 walks... which would be a HUGE improvement from 13. Hell I’d take half of that and call it a win. If he can end up with even a 5% BB rate long-term he has a chance to be special player with his mix of power, speed, & defense.
  3. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 03:15 PM) Not yet, but if Moncada continues his struggles, I hope they move him down in the order to see if the leadoff spot is affecting him. Maybe he will bounce back and then midseason move him back to leadoff. What makes you think the leadoff spot is effecting? It’s not like we’re trying to complete this year so I doubt he is pressing and his approach looks basically looks the same as last year to me. The kid simply needs to move through the next stage of development and getting the most at-bats possible is what will help there.
  4. QUOTE (Lip Man 1 @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 02:18 PM) Delmonico and L. Garcia are not outfielders, they are liabilities right now at that position. They are infielders or in Delmonico's case, a DH. How is Leury not an OF? Because he botched one play yesterday?
  5. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 6, 2018 -> 01:16 PM) I'm hoping Anderson stealing more will underscore the value to him of getting on base. Krate needs to come down or BB rate needs to go up. He's just too good on the bases. Maybe it’s already helping. Tim has 3 BB’s in 26 plate appearances this season vs. 13 in 606 last year.

  7. QUOTE (soxfan2014 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 12:29 PM) I was going to say...the lineup looks sad. Would look a lot better with Donaldson & Jimenez in the 4 & 5 spots and everyone else bumped down.
  8. I never thought I’d see the day Sanchez & Leury were our 5th & 6th hitters.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 5, 2018 -> 08:54 AM) Dunning starts for W-S. Working to find out who it is for Kanny. Crazy they wouldn’t have announced it yet.
  10. http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20180405 All four games start between 5:00 & 6:00pm CST.
  11. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 07:03 PM) I'm not advocating retro fits, I'm advocating that the next generation of stadiums have retractable roofs. From this point forward it should be non-negotiable. I just don’t think it should be non-negotiable. Let teams do their own cost-benefit analysis and make the decision.
  12. I’m sure a dome would help improve attendance in April to some extent, but the question is how much. People still have kids in school and you still have to deal with the s***ty cold/wet weather getting to & from the game. It would be very unlikely that any benefit would offset the massive cost IMO and it most definitely would not if were a retrofit.
  13. QUOTE (Tony @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 02:34 PM) I'm going to go out on a limb and say probably not enough people that would justify blowing up Wrigley Field and Fenway Park.... I’m ok with blowing up Wrigley field for any reason to be honest, just don’t want Chicago to fund the bill
  14. How would people feel about Alec Bohm & Alek Thomas with our first two picks?
  15. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 01:08 PM) Did they get bad press? If this site didn't exist I'm not sure I would have known how pissed others were. Driving the stupid trucks onto the field and doing opening ceremonies and then delaying the game when it could be played for 2 hours and then canceling when freezing rain downpoured on everyone was without a doubt the worst white sox experience I've ever had. 100% agree. I’ve attended several hundred Sox games in my life and I’ve never experienced a s***-show like that. It makes me very nervous about attending future opening days.
  16. QUOTE (SoxFan2003 @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 01:04 PM) I'm hoping the bad press they got from last year's clown show is enough for them to make a smarter decision about tomorrow. I'm sure there are a lot of people who would prefer postponing their day off or half day to Friday (I know I would) anyway. Exactly, if you already have the Friday open, be proactive and do the fans a favor. A lot of people are spending a premium to be there opening day, at least let them plan accordingly and not waste their limited time off.
  17. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 12:50 PM) It'd be real neat if they could make a call weather wise before 3pm Thursday this year. But I fully expect them to cancel it around 330p tomorrow after they get a few hours of beer sales in. That was such bulls*** last year, but I’m more optimistic they’ll have to call this one early. Last I saw it was supposed to snow right around game time, so hopefully they can’t dick us around again. I’m not heading down there until I’m certain a game is being played so that way I can the time off for Friday if need be.
  18. QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 11:31 AM) To go on a more scientific level, the jet stream pressure gradient has been weakened because of the warmer arctic, so it allows more extreme swings throughout the year. Polar Vortex events happen because of this weakening of the jet stream. They can occur at any time of year. Get used to the occasional 40s in May and 50s in June as well. Also, here in North America, gulf moisture can push in the other direction just as easily, causing heat waves throughout the year. Hence, my argument for retractable roofs. It is necessary to combat the effects of climate change. Gulf moisture is more likely to dominate in summer, and polar vortex in winter. Spring and fall are a crapshoot. You want to force mandatory retractable roofs on all teams so people can be comfortable watching baseball games in April. If the weather is too much to deal with, simply watch the game on TV. Do you have any idea how much it would cost to retrofit a retractable roof on an existing stadium? And who the hell is paying for this exactly?
  19. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 11:44 AM) Man, there are a lot of OF's in AA and high A and only so many spots for them to play once everyone is healthy. I wonder if you might see RH start buying some pieces or trying to trade for some draft picks to clear up some of the logjam. Limited AB's will hurt all of their developments, so its better to pare down then to have the most loaded OF in A+. I don’t see much of a jam at AA. Hawkins & Robbins don’t warrant regular playing time, so the everyday OF should be Fisher, Polo, & Jimenez. High A is stacked, but Robert will miss the first month or so & Adolfo is DHing, so that leaves Rutherford, Basabe, & Call as your regulars & Booker as your 4th OF. Will be interesting to see what happens when Robert comes back and Gonzalez forces a promotion. My guess is we’ll see a chain reaction where Basabe & Call get pushed up to AA and Polo & eventually Jimenez get pushed up to AAA.
  20. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Apr 4, 2018 -> 11:39 AM) They are coming along, the farm system is deeper than it has been in nearly 30 years which holds some of the guys back that would be making it into full season ball in years prior. Nunez and Reyes have upside at GF and there are a litany of guys on the AZL roster that have a fairly good ceiling. They did well identifying Tatis, who is now a top ten prospect and Adolfo is starting to click and he took the lions share of the Sox pool in the year he was signed. The problem with LatAm talent is that it is so volatile, players that sign for millions of dollars don't make it through AA, and players that sign for $30K can end up as all-stars. I think patience is warranted on that end as some of those guys will still have a chance to shoot up the charts and make an impact in the next few years. I don’t disagree with you from a conceptual standpoint, but our guys are burning out in rookie ball. Look at the every other organization and tell me how many only have three LatAm signings in their top 30? I get we identified Tatis, but we should still see a handful of guys each year hitting full season ball. If those guys burn out in A ball like Johan Cruz, Antonio Rodriguez, & Luis Martinez I’d actually consider that to be progress. But guys like Amado Nunez can’t get over the Great Falls hump and that’s a real issue. At some point we should just get lucky and see a few guys come out of nowhere & make the jump to Kannapolis as it’s simply a numbers game and for the most part we’ve fairly active in recent years. Maybe these past couple signing classes are a sign of things to come, but right now I view our LatAm program under Paddy being a pretty big failure.
  21. Also, the lack of LatAm talent hitting full season ball is really discouraging. Carlos Perez is the only prospect of note on Kannapolis’ roster and he’s pretty fringey IMO. I know a lot people here give Paddy the benefit of the doubt given what he started with, but I find these results to be unacceptable. Whether it’s a scouting or development problem is up for debate, but all our LatAm signings shouldn’t be burning out in rookie ball. Something has to change here or we’re going to go back to a bottom 10 farm system as soon as our top guys graduate.
