QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 12:18 AM) Talent wise, Clarkin is arguably ahead of Dunning, but hopefully he can stay healthy. We are in a pretty good position, especially if Rodon comes back strong. How is Clarkin talent wise ahead of Dunning? I really don’t get where these insanely pro assentments of Clarkin are coming from. He never dominated High A like Dunning did for long stretches last year. The stuff is most definitely worse and the command is at best the same. I get Clarkin is left-handed and a former first round pick, but I’ll take Dane’s talents over his any day of the week and it’s not even close IMO.

QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Apr 16, 2018 -> 12:05 AM) That wasn't the point. The point was the evaluation of that trade shouldn't be Sale for 6.5 years of Moncada and Kopech, when history may show other options were better. Also, I said the trade needed to happen as it did and we shouldn't regret it no matter the results. So you’re re arguing against no one now because that last sentence was my main point.

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 11:59 PM) I don't think so. Most of the prospects analysts were super high on Cease even when he wasn't performing. I think we were all lower on him than we should have been even if we thought he was going to be good. I’m talking about Clarkin. Right now, I think one of the Adams, Stephens, or Guerrero trio is far more likely to get a look if a spot opened in our major league rotation. That could change at some point this season but two starts isn’t going to radically move the needle with Clarkin. He needs to prove he can handle more advanced hitters while also remaining durable over the course of a full minor league season.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 11:00 PM) Can we argue that Clarkin is now ahead of Guerrero/Stephens as the next starter in line after Dunning? 1) Kopech 2A) Cease 2B) Hansen (I know some will argue it's not quite fair to jump Cease up so quickly, but...) 3) Dunning 4) Clarkin 5/6) Guerrero or Stephens I think you’re overreacting to two good starts.

QUOTE (onedude @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 09:03 PM) so anyone interested in the supposed best game ever? God of War has a ton of perfect reviews...I could do with a new 40 hour game. Been hovering between F1, MLB the Show, and Ghost Recon Wildlands. I pre-ordered it. It will be my next game after Far Cary 5. Will have to see if it can live up to the hype.

I just don’t see a need to be aggressive with Adolfo. Booker & Call are 24 & 23 respectively and will likely be pushed ahead of Micker no matter the results. And while Basabe is also 21 like Micker, he’s also spent quite a bit of time in High A and should also be prioritized in terms of promotion. I think best case scenario for Adolfo is getting a brief stint with Birmingham to end the season and that’s assuming he does not require surgery. -
QUOTE (SonofaRoache @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 04:01 PM) It needed to be stated because the incidental implication of the post was that 6.5 years of Yoan and Kopech being greater than Sale, was the only option. No, the post I responded to said Sale was greater than Kopech + Moncada and the point I was making was that’s not the case for us. We had to trade Sale because we couldn’t win with him. If you want to argue there was a better package to be had, that’s a completely different argument. But in isolation & without the benefit of hindsight, I will certaintly take Moncada, Kopech, & Basabe over Sale given we’re at today.

Kanny postponed due to weather. The Dash are in a delay in the top of the 8th. If the game resumes, Sheets & Adolfo will lead off the inning. Birmingham about to start game 2 of their double-header. Collins at catcher, no Zavala in the lineup. -
QUOTE (La Marr Hoyt HOF @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 03:15 PM) Sale > Yoan / Michael 6.5 years of Kopech + 6.5 years of Moncada + whatever Basabe becomes > 3 years of Sale with a Sox team mired in mediocrity

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 02:57 PM) Ian Clarkin is having a good game: 6 IP, 4 H, 1 ER, 5 K, 0 BB Assuming he doesn’t go out for the 8th, this will be Clarkin’s final line: 7 IP, 5 H, 1 ER, 6 K, 0 BB Excellent start to to season for him. -

QUOTE (BigHurt3515 @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 02:13 PM) I think you heard wrong. He will have surgery at some point this year, he is strictly DH As far I as I know they have not determined yet that he’ll require surgery. -

Adolfo with a 2B on top of the HR. More importantly, he’s not K’ing like crazy anymore and seems to be much more selective at the plate even if he’s not drawing a ton of walks yet. Definitely a lot to like here. -
QUOTE (Footlongcomiskeydog @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 01:17 PM) LMAO. Moncada has a career 35% strike out rate. He will be out of baseball in a couple years if he can't lower that number. Albies has already put up 2.3 WAR in his career. Moncada is at 1.5. However, Albies is almost 2 years younger than Moncada!!!! No one said development is linear but Albies already looks at home in the big leagues wheras Moncada is a negative war player so far in 08. You might happily take Moncada over Albies but I'm pretty sure Hahn would get told to get lost if he proposed a straight up trade of the two. Lol, out of baseball? Moncada put up a 104 wRC+ last year despite a 32% K rate. He won’t be a superstar if he continues to strike out that frequently, but saying he’d be out of baseball is one of the most ludicrous statements I’ve seen in Soxtalk history. And that’s cool you’re comparing WARs of two young players over the course of their first full season, but I’m not sure what that tells us that we didn’t already know. Albies has a very advanced hit tool and much more developed defensive game. He should be out-producing Moncada right now. Long-term I’d wager the vast majority of GMs would still take Yoan over Albies. The upside is significantly higher with Moncada and that’s saying something given how good Albies could be. Unlike a lot of posters here, GMs aren’t going to completely change their position on a young player because of a slow start.
-
Albies has a 1.5% BB rate to go with a 16.4% K rate. His offense is being fueled by some flukey power numbers. I’ll happily take Moncada and his swing & miss issues over Albies any day of the week. Development is not linear and I would expect Albies’ game to translate quicker to the pros than Yoan’s. And I say that as an Albies fan.

QUOTE (ChiSoxJon @ Apr 15, 2018 -> 08:55 AM) Really good to see Booker raking and playing well, that OF is insane Even Rutherford is hitting well (Not much power) I assume Adolfo is DL bound soon however so that clears things up slightly Why do people think Adolfo is DL bound soon? I’ve seen this in three spots now and I’m confused to why so many people believe this. I know someone mentioned the Sox Talk podcast specifically mentioned 100 at-bats but I listened to this and they were simply trying to remember what was said. I found a quote from Hahn and he actually said Micker could get “a couple hundred” at-bats even if surgery is needed. And again, it’s not known yet if surgey will be needed. The White Sox originally expressed optimism that he might be able to rehab the elbow while DHing. So yeah, I think it’s a little too early to say this will clear up the OF glut in High A. Booker is 24 years old and really needs to be challenged against more age appropriate competition to see what we have in him. I think he gets moved up to AA as soon Robert is back. And if Basabe keeps this up, he won’t be too far behind Booker. I could see both of those guys playing for the Barons by June with Polo moving up to AAA to make space.

QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 10:23 PM) It's good to see the OF guys are off to a good start. I just realized how scary this our infield crop is, especially in the middle of the field. What we have in the majors if all we have. Double Y may be the best infield prospect in the system right now. I’d argue Curbelo but given the fact he hasn’t made full season that doesn’t paint a rosy picture either. Would be nice if one of our LatAm signings could become a viable middle infield prospect. I had high hopes for Nunez but he had a pretty rough 2017. Maybe we get lucky with Sosa, we’re bound to hit on one of those guys.

QUOTE (hi8is @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 09:21 PM) We would all absolutely love watching Adolfo and Eloy manning 2/3rds of our outfield for 5+ years. Their personal history along with The Bess attitude in baseball... fun times to hope for. Yeah, my dream OF would Jimenez in LF, Robert in CF, & Adolfo in RF. Those three could combine for 100+ HRs easy at the Rate.

QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 09:04 PM) Well maybe I will freak out a little bit FutureSox posted an update and said he 98 & 99 in his second inning of work.
-
QUOTE (GenericUserName @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 08:47 PM) Is that TV radar gun right? Looks like Vieira is sitting in the low 90s. If he lost some velo he is not nearly as interesting of a prospect. They said it was 2 to 3 MPH slow on the broadcast earlier, but that probably doesn’t explain that droppoff.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 08:04 PM) I will get yelled at for this, but I hope they take Bohm or Madrigal instead of Swaggerty due to this 100% agree. I’d be fine with a HS OF in the 2nd round, but that first pick should be an infielder or pitcher. Bohm to me makes the most sense if he’s there.
-
Adolfo is a f***ing beast. He already has the body of an in their prime major league slugger. If he can keep the K rate down, he’s gonna be an absolute monster.
-
Booker popped out, so bottom of the 9th for the Dash will be Rutherford, Basabe, & Adolfo.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Apr 14, 2018 -> 07:49 PM) When Robert’s healthy, where is he going to start? A or AA? High A. I believe he’s on their DL.
