Trust me, I want the same thing and wouldn’t be against it. And I think if we can somehow add Machado or Harper, then we probably have to add a starter and be a bit more aggressive plugging holes. Ultimately I’m open to anything this offseason that doesn’t cost us our prospect currency or jeopardize our financial flexibility. We should be saving our chips for true impact players.

I’m not against it necessarily, just feel like we’d be better off giving our young arms a chance in 2019 and add a veteran starter before the 2020 if needed.

I know it’s a long-shot, but I hope they take a real shot at Machado & Harper. If you miss on those guys, maybe look at a veteran CF, 3B, or 1B/DH on a short term deal. There is the makings of a pretty good offense if they keep Abreu & Avi and make the right additions. Pitching will have question marks, but I still think I’d start the season with a rotation of Rodon, Kopech, Lopez, Giolito, and either Covey or Stephens. Add veteran reliever or two to stabilize the bullpen, but otherwise roll with a young staff and wait for the next wave of guys (Cease, Dunning, Hansen, etc) to serve as reinforcements.

As much as I’d love that extra year of control, I feel like they’re both coming up in the coming weeks and we might as well hope they help this team win some games.

Draft position be damned, I hope this team goes on a run during the second half. Would be nice to have some momentum heading into the offseason.

Him & Anderson developing into above average players would help the rebuild tremendously.

If any team could pull this move off and not ruin their rebuild it’s the Padres. Their system is completely bonkers. I still don’t think know is the right time for them to do something this, but adding Hosmer also made very little sense.

True. Sounds like the Royals want the world for Merrifield though. Sanchez would likely come much cheaper.

I don’t disagree necessarily from a big picture standpoint, but this is a significantly better return than what the Mets got for Familia (who has been the better pitcher hands down this year). I think the Orioles did ok here when viewing the deal in isolation.

BA ranked Tate 6th in a strong Yankees system. My guess is he’s just outside the top 100. One of the other guys was ranked 15th by MLBPipeline. Seems like a solid return for a rental reliever with upside but also question marks.
