QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:41 PM) Ideally they trade MiGo and Lucas can stay up. I agree, and honestly, I can't imagine Gonzalez makes his next start (someone will take him on the cheap).
-
QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:35 PM) I honestly didn't really factor in his MLB performance thus far. I just don't know if Moncada has ever had a run like this at any stage of the minors. Eloy has just been incredible. Didn't mean you specifically. Have just seen a lot of negativity over his slow start, which I don't think is wrong. Don't get me wrong, I think he has a higher floor and requires less projection than Yoan. But damn if Moncada puts all his tools together along with that batting eye and you have a top two or three player in the game. Jimenez's defensive limitations (not that he's a bad defender) cap his value to some extent. But whatever, the fact we have both of them is all that really matters!

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) Luis Martinez continues to be an enigma for me. Kid is a serious sleeper as a prospect, by my god... so inconsistent. He's still got a chance, although in a year or two I'm sure they'll move him to the pen. What's crazy is despite his stuff he's not a top 30 prospect in our system.

QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:05 PM) When Jimenez and Gio leave MILB, we have to start saying Hansen is a top 5 prospect in the organization, right? Jimenez ain't leaving for a while, but IMO the top 5 once Moncada, Lopez, & Giolito lose eligibility should be: 1) Jimenez 2) Kopech 3) Robert 4) Hansen 5) Rutherford So yes to answer your question . And I expect all those guys to be top 60 prospects by this offseason.
-
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 07:43 PM) Lotta hits off Gio but no walks and lots of k's too. Seven singles but no XBHs. Great start for Giolito and I think he deserves to join Lopez in Chicago.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 07:58 PM) Totally agree.. Yoan has a chance to be an all star. Eloy has a chance to be an MVP Yoan has a higher ceiling IMO and I think both have MVP potential. Just going to take longer for Moncada to get there. I'm actually surprised how down people are on Yoan. Short of Mike Trout, he's got the best set of tools in baseball.
-
QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 07:48 PM) Pelicans radio guy tweeting he's pretty sure Hansen is best pitcher they've seen this year And to think Baseball America didn't put him in their mid-season top 100. I'm pretty confident he'll around 50 on most offseason lists.

Great night for the farm so far! Giolito, Hansen, & Martinez all dominant! Eloy with the HR in his first bat! Jameson 2-2 so far on the night! A bunch of guys in Kanny with hits!

Thanks for posting! Would love to see the same thing for the 2014 & 2015 classes as well. Overall, pretty dissapointmented with Paddy's work to date. The only guys who have graduated to full season ball so far have dissapointed (Cruz, Rodriguez, Martinez, Solorzano) other than Tatis. I guess maybe that's not entirely Paddy's fault, as it could be player development related to some degree, but the results out of LatAm have generally been pretty poor IMO.

QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 01:52 PM) I definitely would like to see the Sox get a couple games closer to the Phils by the end of the week. Good time for a 1-5 week. Aren't we only two games behind as is?
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 12:51 PM) My odds: 50% -- 2nd pick 20% -- 1st pick 20% -- 3rd pick 10% -- 4th or higher. With our bullpen, I think it's more likely 40% for the #1 & 60 for the #2.

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
Chicago White Sox replied to TaylorStSox's topic in SLaM
QUOTE (illinilaw08 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 09:50 AM) We've been saying this for like 3 years. Put me in the camp that doesn't think we will ever see another book in the series... Unless you think he dies in the next two years or simply gives up on the series, he'll release Winds of Winter. There has been a ton of smoke that this one is coming pretty soon and I think next year (before the final season of the show) is realistic. -
QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 06:55 AM) Yea I'm worried. He looks dreadful. Yup, he's a bust. Better hope Jimenez is the real deal or this rebuild is doomed.

QUOTE (Jack Parkman @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 01:04 AM) The huge issue is that every negative quality that one group of people say about another group of people whom they want to oppress and denigrate, are projections about their own behavior that they are embarrassed about. When the right winger says: Welfare queens take advantage of the system and are lazy and don't want to work They mean: 1. I don't pay my fair share of taxes nor do I give to charity to help the needy, and I don't want to. 2. I have a safe, secure job and I really don't do anything there but the bare minimum to stay employed. Every day I go to work I steal from my company. I am the lazy one. If I point the finger at someone who doesn't have the job opportunities to live comfortably like I do, then it makes me feel better about stealing time from my employer, and not paying my taxes. When the right winger says: The problem isn't the police officers beating minorities, it is that people think that the rules don't apply to them, and they are an entitled brats who have no respect for authority They mean: I think the rules don't apply to me. I don't like minorities. I think they are subhuman. I am above the law. I have enough money to make any problem I have legally, go away. I can just pay a lawyer to get me off the hook. I am the entitled brat. I just have to blame it on somebody else to make me feel better about my taking advantage of the system due to having a large paycheck. When the right winger says: Being gay is a choice. High functioning autism is a con made by people who don't want to work, and are too mentally weak to handle real life. They mean: These people make me uncomfortable. I don't want to deal with them, because they are different. I think they are disgusting because they have sex with people of the same gender or have trouble with social boundaries/personal hygiene. I choose to be closed minded, I am too mentally weak to handle it. I lack the critical thinking skills to come to the conclusion that these things are real issues. Why would anyone choose to behave in this manner, when it is very out of the ordinary? Life is hard enough. Why would someone add this burden to it? When the right winger says: If I have to raise wages, then there will be less jobs They mean: I am a greedy SOB. I don't want to pay people a living wage, because my standard of living will change marginally and that is too uncomfortable. Maybe I can't afford that new yacht on the Lake every 5 years. Now I have to wait 8. I don't care. I want it now, because I am a whiny, entitled petulant child. This is my I am skirting the responsibility of paying my employees fairly and giving people what they need to live comfortably or survive. Not only will I not pay them, I will not give them the tools necessary to succeed at the goals I've set for them. This way I can continue to lower their pay, because my company is doing barely well enough to stay in business, and I want all of it. It is MINE. You can't have more than x amount, even though you've done all of the work, and I've been out at the country club all week. I have more of these that I will post later. WTF...this is a perfect example of partisanism at its worse.

Is someone getting called up to replace Jimenez? I would hope Call gets the call.

QUOTE (RockRaines @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 09:07 PM) The book always alluded to there being a 3 headed dragon. We have two, there has to be one more IMO. The show hasn't much or at least not to my memory. -

Winds of Winter will likely be out next year. Who knows if A Dream of Spring ever sees the light of day. G.R.R.M turns 69 next month and he may not be around if it takes him another seven years as cruel as that sounds. Regardless, I think the books will be radically different from the corresponding TV material. We've already seen a ton of differences and I think those will only get more pronounced as the stories approach their end games. -
JR "Ozzie can't come back as Manager"
Chicago White Sox replied to southsider2k5's topic in Pale Hose Talk
He literally quit on his own team because he was worried about his contract. I liked him those first few years, but f*** no I'm never taking him back. -
Zack Collins/Eloy Jimenez promoted
Chicago White Sox replied to Jose Abreu's topic in FutureSox Board
Kopech is the best pitching prospect in baseball, if he's dominant next April & May in AAA, the Sox will have no choice but calling him. And I don't think it's that crazy of an outcome. -
QUOTE (Middle Buffalo @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 03:53 PM) I would identify as a Democrat for sure - not sure what qualifies one as a hardcore liberal. I guess I would resist that label because I think it is loaded and meant to be derogatory. I called out StrangeSox for his ridiculous idea that everyone who voted for Trump is a racist. It wasn't meant to be a dig. I just meant there is a group of posters who lean very far to the left who also happen to be vocal on this board. I wasn't trying to be offensive when I grouped them all together as "hardcore liberals", although I can see why someone might interpret it that way.
-
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 03:56 PM) That wasn't my claim! However I can be an ass and may have been communicating my point very poorly. Fair enough, I'll move on from this issue.
-
QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Aug 15, 2017 -> 03:15 PM) That's definitely the case here. It's not like rabbit hasn't continually put his foot in his mouth regarding this topic. Why don't we give him a chance to clarify his statement without five people jumping down his throat? Imagine trying to explain yourself when you have a half dozen people attacking you. That's my point here. The mob mentality doesn't add to the general discussion, it just creates unnecessary tension for the posters with opposing viewpoints.
-
I find it interesting that multiple posters continue to harp on raBBit for his genetics comment when we all know the point he was trying to make, while StrangeSox accused everyone who voted for Trump to be racist or racist enablers and implied they were bad people and yet not one of the hardcore liberals on this board called him out for it. In fact, most of them came in and defended his ridiculous statement. As a liberal I don't always agree with raBBit's point of view, but I think he deserves better treatment than he gets around here. There is definitely a bully culture on this subforum with the hardcore liberals leading the charge. It really sucks because I come here to learn about issues and opposing perspectives, including raBBit's, but it quickly turns into a groupthink exercise where the same four or five posters aggressively force their opinion down everyone's throats (as if it were fact) without really giving the other side a chance to explain their views & opinions.

**SPOILER THREAD** GAME OF THRONES ** SPOILER THREAD **
Chicago White Sox replied to TaylorStSox's topic in SLaM
So how does everyone see the rest of this season shaking out? Next week is obviously going to focus on the mission to grab a wight. I'm sure just like with Hardhomme there will be some other stuff going on, but I bet at least half if not more of the run time is focused north of the wall. So what does that leave us with for the rest of the episode and the finale? Assuming the mission is successful, there will no doubt be a regroup and potential short-term alliance with Cersei in the finale. There clearly is going to be some sort of showdown between Sansa, Arya, & Littlefinger. We'll probably find out where Sam is going. Maybe they'll address the Theon-Euron situation, although Dany being involved wouldn't reflect a truce. Honestly, I have no idea what to expect after that. Would love to hear what everyone thinks. I fully expected Dany to take the throne this season before dealing with the white walkers next year, so I'm kind of thrown for a loop at the moment.
