QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 07:27 AM) Defense matters too. He played plus defense last year, the ability is clearly there to be above average. I'm much more concerned about his plate discipline. But if he can be an above average defender and hit for power, he can still be a productive player for us. I think we all have to step back and realize this is a lost year for him. Next year will be critical though.

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 11:01 PM) Definitely not. If Anderson sucks again next year then I'll jump on that bandwagon. Dude absolutely gets another year to prove himself. Leury will get his chance to play everday in the of. This. Anderson has a long way to go offensively, but giving up on him in year one of a rebuild is f***ing stupid.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious

QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 10:47 PM) Not a great post. The Democrats could have given us a good candidate to vote for. Look, if they strike Guam it's all over. That's a direct attack on our bases and our people. If Jong Un is dumb enough to attack Guam there's nothing we can do but execute thermonuclear war. And yes the world will never be the same. Did you vote for Hillary? If not, you indirectly voted for Trump and a guaranteed nuclear holocaust. Well done Greg... -
Awesome finish!

QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 10:44 PM) I've cited Beltre in the past. Have no idea why he stayed in DSL that long. If he had any kind of power as a 3B prospect, he'd be up there. Sox have had him play some 2B too recently. Hopefully the frame fills out a bit more. I was wondering the same thing, he put up pretty good numbers in the DSL in 2016.

Ramon Beltre with a HR. He may be the best prospect in the system no one has ever heard of.
-
QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 09:47 PM) Alex Destino has one sexy OBP. 21 years old. Will probably be in Kanny with Dedelow next year. Gonna be a crowded outfield. Robert, Dedelow, & probably Gonzalez as the three main guys. Still hoping that Mercedes finds a way to get an everyday role as well.

QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 08:42 PM) Said it early last week, but I'm convinced Eloy will be the #1 prospect in baseball at some point in 2018 Once Acuna is called up probably.
-
Eloy with the bases-loaded clearing double! Kid is a f***ing beast!

QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 07:33 PM) Seby went long ball again... I'm really hoping we have something in Zavala. I know he's on the old end, even for high A, but as a catcher that's far less of an issue for me. Unfortunately, I haven't seen much on his tools or defense to know if there is a reason to be optimistic, but damn are his offensive numbers impressive.

QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 07:34 PM) I'm too stoned, should have been cuban Lol...well that explains it!

QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 07:26 PM) Eloy Jimenez. No way. Jimenez may have more potential offensively, but he's limited on the defensive end. Moncada is a legit 5 tool talent with a plus batters eye.
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 07:30 PM) In the book Moneyball, Lewis discusses then-prospect Youkilis in detail, and refers to him as "Euclis, the Greek God of Walks", a moniker that has stuck. ... But according to his dad, "Kevin disliked that Greek God of Walks stuff." Fans actually rooted for Youkilis to take pitches. I get the reference, but why the Dominican descriptor?
-
QUOTE (chitownsportsfan @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 07:23 PM) The Domincan God of walks. ?
-
Does Moncada have a higher ceiling than anyone in baseball not named Mike Trout? I think it's an easy yes, but curious if I'm missing anyone.
-
QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 06:32 PM) Alex Call is hitting .344 over his last 11 days (including tonights 1 for 1). I'm hoping they bump him up to Winston-Salem once Jimenez gets promoted.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 05:59 PM) Oh please...with that said, sounds like 2-4 week injury I'm obviously just f***ing with you.

I wonder if fathom is worried.

The Korea Situation; It's Very Serious
Chicago White Sox replied to greg775's topic in The Filibuster
QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) Zero, short of the military disobeying direct orders from the Commander in Chief. No one can stop President Trump from using nuclear weapons. That’s by design. What if the president ordering a nuclear attack isn’t sane? An Air Force major lost his job for asking. Maybe it wasn't the best idea to elect* an insane, extremely fragile reality TV star who lashes out at even the smallest things and has zero impulse control to POTUS? That's the exact problem. The lack of impulse control was my greatest fear with him to begin. If NK strikes within distance of Guam action would be needed, but such action must be planned out and throughly vetted by a broader team. I just don't see Trump waiting to respond after such an event, in his mind it would make him look like a p****. And impulsive action would likely lead to much greater consequences for the entire world. -
What is Blake Rutherford's upside?
Chicago White Sox replied to KnightsOnMintSt's topic in FutureSox Board
Sounds like they'll have to work with him on his swing to improve his launch angle / elevation. If they can do that without messing anything else up, the raw power potential is there to be a pretty exciting offensive player. It's going to take time though. I think an ETA of mid 2020 is a best case scenario for him. -

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 09:34 AM) http://www.cnn.com/2017/08/09/politics/nor...rike/index.html North Korea readying Guam strike plan (within days), four missiles to be launched over Japan Hope everyone that didn't vote Hillary is happy now, because we now have good ole calm, cool, collected Donald to deal with this mess. If NK were to do this (which I doubt), I don't see how Trump doesn't respond with force. -
QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 10, 2017 -> 07:37 AM) Isn't he kinda old? Was taking in DSL but I thought he was like 23 He's 20 but turns 21 in October. If they push him to Kannapolis next year, he'd be age appropriate. And I'm not sure there is anyone ahead of him on the 2B depth chart. I honestly don't know much about him, but assuming he has some tools I'd give him a shot based on his results so far. The plate discipline is pretty impressive for a young LatAm prospect in our system.

Gillaspie with a HR.

Ramon Beltre certainly is interesting.

QUOTE (Scoots @ Aug 9, 2017 -> 08:52 PM) Next spring training is going to be very very interesting. Not just for starting spots on the roster, but I doubt there will be a game where there won't be a player playing that is projected to be impacting the future competitive Sox team. While I was 100% joking about Tilson, it's going to be an interesting camp. There should be a ton of competition for spots and most of those will be fringe guys who may be playing for the best major league opportunity they'll ever get. And yes, most of these guys won't be on the next good Sox team, but if we can hit on even one diomand in the rough it will help.
