Anyone find out what happened to Collins? Also, that's the first time I can recall ever seeing a team lose its DH due to playing both catchers.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 04:10 PM) You're also assuming that 60 million plus people only voted for him out of economic desperation and not out of enthusiastic support. Many millions of his voters aren't struggling economically. Nope, I'm assuming the vast majority of people voted along party lines like they always do. And honestly, blame the Democrats for choosing Hilary as their nominee. Any respectable candidate would have easily beaten Trump. Deserved or not, Clinton's baggage likely gave some Republicans on the bubble in regards to Trump cause for concern. Unfortunately, the sad reality is there are a lot of Greg's out there who think Hilary is as bad as Donald for whatever reason.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 03:44 PM) And again for emphasis, millions of non-struggling people across the country including in the rust belt voted for Trump. He got more topical Republican support than Romney. Millions of struggling people also didn't vote for him (by and large the poor don't vote for a variety of reasons). I don't see why we need to give people endless excuses. I already said there is no excuse and they got conned out of desperation. Caring about their families does not make them racist enablers though. It makes them fools for putting their faith in a douchebag they thought was somehow different than the normal Washington types and who would magically find all these jobs. Unfortunately, not everyone dedicates their lives to politics like yourself and oftentimes the average joe makes short-sighted decisions due to minimal research.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 03:32 PM) "I'm sick of this my way or the highway view of white supremacist rallies. You have to look at both sides of the issue and consider that the white supremacists may have some point." What in the world are you talking about? Someone more concerned about providing for their families than worrying about illegal immigrants being deported does NOT make them a racist. Showing up at a white nationalist event with Nazi flags and screaming Nazi rhetoric DOES make you a racist. StrangeSox is somehow lumping all these people together, which is absolutely terrible. So again, what exactly is your angle here?

QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 02:24 PM) I think it's totally fair to hold people accountable for those who voted for economic progress over race/social issues. Isn't that how the Nazis gained power in the first place? Wow, talk about quite the leap there. People in the rust belt voted for Trump out of pure desperation and not believing a career politician with a shady reputation would actually help them out. These people got conned by a truly despicable person, but them prioritizing the issues that are vastly important to them does not make them racist or racist enablers. It makes them human with their own struggles that they're desperately trying to address. I'm really getting sick of this "my way or the highway" view a lot of liberals have. Just because someone doesn't agree with everything you do does not make them stupid or evil. The Nazis in Virgina yesterday are scumbags b/c they're racist, hate-filled assholes, not because of their political affiliation.

QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 10:32 AM) It means if you live in the Rust Belt, in an area with a crippled economy and no middle class jobs, you're more than likely willing to vote for a bigot if he's promising to bring jobs back. This is the unfortunate reality for some. Those few swayed the election. It doesn't mean those people support racism. It means they valued feeding their family over social issues. 100% this. They fell for Trump's lies, but they voted for him out of desperation, not because they were ok with racism. The partisanship in this country really sucks. I'm a liberal, but under no circumstance do I think it's ok to come out of yesterday's f***ed up events and try to give themselves a political edge. Both sides of the aisle should be out there ripping these scumbags for what they are and I saw plenty of Republicans do so yesterday on Twitter. Trump's statements were cowardly but those fall on Trump alone and not on the people that voted for him or share his political party.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 10:00 AM) They are, at best, perfectly okay with voting for an explicitly racist and sexist man and enabling that ideology. They rewarded his disgusting behavior and gross incompetence time and time again. An overwhelming majority of Republicans voted for exactly what we've been getting for six months now. I'm not going to defend anyone that voted for Trump, but I don't agree it makes them racist or were ok with enabling that type of ideology. I think most hardcore Republicans simply voted party lines and the majority of independents just wanted something different than your typical US politician. I don't excuse them for not thinking about the bigger picture, because quite frankly they are at fault for that, but I doubt very many of them said to themselves "I'm ok with racism" when voting for Trump. These scumbags in Virginia are the loud, vocal minority that have used Trump to come out of their holes and feel comfortable expressing their hatred filled beliefs. They do not reflect the vast majority of the Republican Party base.

QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 09:31 AM) Meh, let Kopech spend the '18 season in Charlotte to continue building up his innings. If all goes well I can see calling him up next September to work out of the pen and then pencil him into the rotation to start the '19 season. Why though? You wouldn't get an extra year of service time that way, so why not call him if he's proven he's ready.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 09:00 AM) The United States Dpt of Justice brought a civil rights violation action against Donald Trump personally because he refused to permit black people to rent apartments in his buildings. The Dpt of Justice said all he needed to do was agree to rent to minorities. He refused. Instead he spent a fortune in legal fees fighting to keep minorities out of his buildings. On the eve of trial he caved and signed the Consent Decree. Donald J. Trump is a racist. In the late 80s, Donald Trump argued that the death penalty should be re-instated for the 'Central Park 5', and when the accused were later found not guilty through DNA evidence, he refused to admit he was wrong and still thought they were guilty. Donald J. Trump is a racist. When the first African American President was elected, Donald J. Trump attacked the legitimacy of the President's citizenship with full knowledge that his attack was 100% based upon a lie. Donald J. Trump is a racist. During a television interview during his campaign he was asked about David Duke and the KKK and he outright refused to denounce him or his views (he finally renounced him weeks later after being forced to do so because of the political firestorm). Donald J. Trump is a racist. Then he refused to denounce the murder of a Muslim on a train in Seattle. Donald J. Trump is a racist. Then he refused to denounce the bombing of a mosque last week. Donald J. Trump is a racist. And this weekend he refused to denounce the views of Nazis. Donald J. Trump is a racist. But "nice" people voted for him. I'm not sure what your point is here? I hate Trump as much as anyone, but just because Trump is racist doesn't mean that his entire voter is if that's what you're going after here. Plenty of people voted for him simply because they are fiscally and/or socially conservative or just wanted something different than the Washington norm. There is obviously a subset of his voter base that is dumb, ignorant, & even hateful, but you seem to be suggesting the majority of republicans fall into this bucket, which is completely false.

QUOTE (danman31 @ Aug 13, 2017 -> 01:19 AM) I'm starting to think we see Eloy as a September call up next year. The way he is hitting is crazy. If he can come close to this level next year in AA, why not give him a few at-bats at the end of what is likely to be another bad White Sox season? What do we think the ETA on Kopech is? There's no rush, but there's a decent chance he'll be one of the five best starting pitchers in the organization come spring training next year. At a bare minimum you give Kopech a couple months in AAA to start next year. But honestly at this point, I fully expect Kopech in the rotation by the second half of 2018, which means by opening day 2019 our rotation could be pretty ready to make a run at things. Jimenez is much tougher to peg IMO. He's been absolutely awesome this year, but I typically like to see some AA success before I feel confident they're a year away or less from reaching the pros. But the elite guys do move fast and I have no reason to think a prospect with as well rounded of an offensive game as Jimenez will struggle against more advanced pitching.

QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 08:41 PM) You may want to smoke "another big fat bowl" or at least give me your address and when you're smoking it so I can make a phone call ?

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 08:21 PM) Timmy walk Wow, only his second walk since July 1st.

Kopech is without question the best pitching prospect in baseball now. I thought he was going to tire out once he passed his previous innings high, but the kid has been insane these last few weeks.

QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 12, 2017 -> 06:26 PM) One of these days, someone will get benched for an inexcusable base running incident I just don't get what happened. I actually thought he was injured while watching in real time. If he just pulled up because he figured he was out then he should be benched.
-
Wow, some seriously bad base running by our Cubans.
-
Why the hell did Moncada slow down there??
-
Random fact, but Tim Anderson has one walk since July 1st. That is beyond pitiful regardless of what's going on in his head right now.
-
I've enjoyed these past four wins, but a 10-9 loss would really hit the spot right about now.

Who has best farm system: ATL or Sox?
Chicago White Sox replied to LittleHurt05's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Passan actually does his homework, which is refreshing. I tend to agree with him though. I think the Braves have a better group of pitching prospects than us, but I'd argue it's closer than most prospect ranking lists would suggest (easily the top two orgs in baseball from a pitching perspective). But I think we definitely got them on the positional side. Moncada+Jimenez > Acuna+Albies, Robert > Maitan, & Rutherford+Collins+Burger > next three Braves positional prospects. -
Clippard to Houston for PTBNL or cash
Chicago White Sox replied to Superstar Lamar's topic in Pale Hose Talk
If he cleared waivers already, I'd have him be the closer the rest of the way and see if he can actually net something decent back. Most of the quality relievers won't make it to the good teams, so it could be slim pickings for them and a rejuvenated Clippard might be of some interest. -
Acquiring stars is the hardest part of a rebuild and perhaps the most vital part of it. If you can't sign/draft/develop stars, the length of the rebuild can expotentially increase. Relying solely on the draft is a dangerous game, because it's simply way too unpredictable. What Hahn has accomplished here is incredible. As of today, we have two positional guys that look like sure-fire stars in Moncada & Jimenez plus a third guy in Robert that might just join them. We have almost no long-term financial commitments and should be able to add at least one more positional star in free agency. That is an incredible foundation to build off of with even a system of average pitching talent. But we are absolutely loaded with high-end pitching. Kopech is obviously the key, but if he can develop into a legit ace, the rest of the staff should fall in place nicely with an array of TOR options. And this doesn't even factor in landing a potential star at #1 in next year's draft. Point is, blowing it up early before our core assets expired in value and landing guys like Moncada has taken away a ton of uncertainty and has potentially allowed us to complete a rebuild in record time.

Reynaldo getting the call and the ball on Friday
Chicago White Sox replied to Rowand44's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (2005thxfrthmmrs @ Aug 11, 2017 -> 10:25 AM) Interestingly enough Stephens and Hansen also scheduled to start tonight. I am mildly surprised neither of them are getting promoted. I don't think Stephens deserves to be promoted yet. The peripherals are good not great (K rate way down) and he only has 11 AA starts to his name. If anyone deserves to be promoted it's Jordan Guerrero, who has been awesome this year and has 40+ AA starts. -
