  1. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Aug 18, 2017 -> 01:59 PM) With the extra year of control we got from calling him up late this year wouldn't we have him through the 2023 season? It's 6 seasons after this year. You are correct.
  2. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 03:10 PM) Even the walks have stopped. He's one for his last twenty with 10 strike outs and no walks. He's not struggling, he's drowning. Anyone still convinced he'll climb out of this is deluded. You don't have to take the exact opposite point either, but now it's time to seriously consider that Moncada is a complete and total bust. It has gotten so bad that the Buxton comparisons are starting to look generous. I hope he turns it around, but watching him play leaves almost zero room for encouragement. You are seriously a complete joke. You are getting right up there with Greg in terms of hot takes.
  3. QUOTE (BlackSox13 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 02:37 PM) Surprised nobody claimed MiGo. Was hoping he could land on a contender to get a chance at the post season. Did they pass him through while he was on the DL or just after he came off?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 10:58 AM) If Giotlito spends September with the Sox, he would need to stay in Charlotte until almost July to get the extra year of control. That doesn't make much sense to me. I agree. Hahn clearly has his eye on being semi-competitive in 2019, which means giving Giolito a full season or more to work through things next year. Might as well call him up now if that's the case.
  5. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 12:08 PM) Great post, Lamar. We need to see more of your posts IMO. I have been intrigued by that Kemp guy. We should make sure he's the player to be named. Throw in Miguel to make sure it's Kemp. If next year is another throwaway year I wouldn't mind seeing that Kemp guy lead off. This post is just great. Sums up how greg's brain works perfectly.
  6. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 12:22 AM) LOL No, it's a request to have some semblance of competence on this team. There is no one - not one bullpen pitcher - who should be on a major league roster. Not one. Do you think a game like this and loss after loss helps development? And Petricka - good lord, he's never been any good at all. The vast majority of this roster is playing for their major league livelihood. Wins & losses at this stage will have very little impact on their development.
  7. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 12:06 AM) I'm gonna be honest- I have no idea what wRC+ is. I also don't care. You like peripherals? Try this one. 22% K rate at A in 2015. 25% at A+, AA in 2016, 28% at AAA in 2017. I can understand Blake Rutherford might need to fill in his boots a bit to reach his full power potential. I can understand that Zach Collins has been focusing on his D and his bat is still pretty advanced, stats be damned. I can be plenty patient with the young ones. But I don't see how a guy who has had serious contact issues his entire career will suddenly fix them to be a decent ball player. And Dombrowski still kept Devers and Benintendi and traded Moncada. Why would one of the game's best GMs be so certain as to which highly touted prospect to trade? See Kris Bryant's K rates at those levels (hint they're worse). As for Dombrowski, he traded Moncada over the other two because had obvious long-term holes in LF & CF while 2B was blocked for the foreseeable future. He was trading from a position of strength, which is what all good GMs do. Same reason Theo traded Jimenez for Quintana, who also happens to be one of the best GMs in baseball. And the early returns on that trade are incredibly promising.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 17, 2017 -> 12:02 AM) Bummer continues to help the tank. Sucks Burdi got hurt, would have loved to see him as closer Obviously Tommy John is never good, but if it was going to happen eventually, this was about perfect timing. I'd rather have the bullpen be the reason we lose games than the lineup or rotation.
  9. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:54 PM) For me, he passes the eye test. You can see the mountain of talent he possesses. He's only 22, so as I think you correctly assert, it's only a matter of time with Yoan. Exactly. These at-bats against LHP have been ugly, but that's not uncommon for a young player, especially now the scouting reports are out on him. Like all players, he'll have to make adjustments and I see absolutely no reason why he won't make those. People need to remember that he was completely rushed to the majors because was able to be productive despite his strikeout issues. It may take a year, it may take two, but the dude will develop into a quality big league hitter. Whether he fulfills his potential of "Robinson Cano with more speed" remains to be seen, but he's far too talented believe he won't get a helluva lot better in the coming years.
  10. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:46 PM) Then we should have looked elsewhere. I just don't know how, in the 2017 draft, we seized on this idea of low-K types, but less than a year earlier, when making the most important trade in recent history, we ignored that aspect when choosing our top prize. By this logic, I guess you wouldn't have wanted Kris Bryant a few years back as he K'd 28.6% of the time in AAA. Funny how that's gone down in the majors. Maybe because he has elite bat speed & a great batter's eye and he's been able to make the necessary adjustments. Moncada's K rate was 28.3% in AAA this year. He's got tremendous bat speed & a plus batter's eye. He's a special f***ing talent just like Bryant and your view on him is simply short-sighted & lazy.
  11. QUOTE (StrykerSox @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:39 PM) Ugh. I really wanted Benintendi from the BoSox and I have never seen what makes Moncada so exciting for people. That k-rate is ugly. 28% at AAA, 37% up here? Good luck, kid, but that won't work. You've never seen what makes Moncada so exciting? Five tools with a plus batter's eye isn't exciting? wRC+ of 156 & 152 in high A & AA as a 21 year old isn't exiting? 45 stolen last year isn't exciting? I swear some of you guys have the patience of a three year old. Dude was almost universally considered a top two prospect for good reason and that's because he has the talent to be a top two or three player in baseball. Whether he gets there, who knows, but people need to stop jumping to ridiculous conclusions a month into his professional career. Most young players don't come up and dominate from the get-go. If you can't accept there is a learning curve, do yourself a favor and come back a year from now when the worst is finally behind him.
  12. Rodon only went more than 7 innings once last year. He's now gone over 7 in three straight starts. Wasn't the prettiest outing tonight, but he's been way more efficient as of late.
  13. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:34 PM) ok...this right handed Moncada needs to go....enough already. I'd give him more than a month before writing him off from the right side. You got to give him the chance to actually make some adjustments. And as someone else mentioned, it's unlikely he's going to be any better against LHP batting lefty.
  14. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:07 PM) So which guy in the pen blows it this time. I think we're going to win this one.
  15. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 10:47 PM) Ugly five game stretch for Moncada. Jinxed him with the "A Star is Born" thread... Well you better start a "A Flop is Born" thread to fix this s***!
  16. I love me some Nicky. And I really hope they keep Abreu around through the rebuild. He seems like a great clubhouse presence for all these young guys and not just the LatAm or Cuban guys.
  17. QUOTE (FT35 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 10:10 PM) Ha! Cause Cody is Legend? Probably just not overthinking it--didn't think Nicky was ready, start the season with your vet--place hold him for someone young to take his spot. I'm not sure anyone saw this type of promise from Delmonico back in ST. There are several posters who have been high on him for a while now, but the reality is his numbers will come back to earth as his .455 BABIP regresses to the mean. I'm still ecstatic about his performance though, especially for a rookie.
  18. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) Always seems to have good at bats with a mighty swing. Was actually surprised he didn't light up AAA more The BB & K rates were nice. Seems like the power faded as the year progressed for some reason.
  19. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 10:05 PM) Honest question...how did the Sox leave camp with Asche over Delmonico? I know it happens...but geez. Nick was raking in ST too.... I may be Delmonico's biggest fan on this site, but he needed time to work on his defense without having the pressures of being on a major league team. Plus more time in AAA was a good thing for his bat based on the significant reduction in his K rate.
  20. If he maintains his production over the next six weeks, I wouldn't be against a cheap extension. Out of all the surprises this year (Avi, Davidson, Sanchez, etc.), I have the most faith in Leury going forward.
  21. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) More I don't think Blake is anything special. As for Collins, I'm higher on him now that he has said some of his slump was due to trying to make changes to the hitch during the season That's good to know. I'm pretty certain that he'll work on swing during the offseason and hopefully make enough changes to get that K rate down to a respectable level. If he can stick at catcher defensively, it won't take much of an improvement in his K rate to become a viable everyday guy given his batting eye & power.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 06:49 PM) Well Adolfo too who has turned it around some. We definitely need one of these guys to hit. Was really hoping for a better year out of Nunez, really could use some MI prospects Whoops, good call on Adolfo. He's at least a top 20 org guy. No one else is really close. And I agree on Nunez, was really hoping he'd force his way to full season ball next season. That still might happen, but this season won't help matters.
  23. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:57 PM) Also worth noting Gonzalez after a slow start has been on fire in August with a .400 OBP Yeah, he's been awesome as of late.
  24. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) 3 outcomes Collins You bastard!
