  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Sep 7, 2017 -> 06:29 PM) Tank Series: Fri- Moore vs Giolito Sat- Samardzija vs Shields Sun- Bumgarner vs Fulmer At least Sunday is a guaranteed loss. I'll be happy with 1 out of 3 TBH.
  2. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) WTF? That's crazy. He's having his first decent season and still has shortcomings. On one hand, he has a .368 wOBA and a wRC+ of 132. Solid season. He does have a crazy high .392 BABIP though. He's not a defender and only has 14 homers while being relegated to an OF corner. He's just always a guy that contending teams will be looking to replace in my opinion. sincity is a blatant troll, just ignore him. Wish the mods would do something about him, because there is really no black or white about his intentions.
  3. I think Avi has made some real strides this year with the bat, but I definitely don't think he's someone you build around. His offensive profile still has too many question marks, I worry about his overall game if he were to add weight/lose speed as he ages, we're deep with minor league OFs, & we're going to have a f***ton of money in the coming years and I'd like to aim a little higher with that money than a 2-3 WAR player who doesn't play a premium up-the-middle position. I'd shop him like crazy this offseason and seriously consider any deal headlined by a top 100 prospect. If not, I'd be ok with holding him into next year, but I don't see him as part of our next good team.
  4. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 4, 2017 -> 08:53 AM) Interesting choice. The lefty reliever showed improvement in AA although he walked a few too many. Most likely will be used as a situational lefty. He was a prime Rule 5 candidate, so might as well add him to the 40 man now and get a look at him against big league hitters.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 08:45 PM) Great recovery by Lopez, and nice to see him maintaining velocity I thought he looked awesome tonight. Obviously not a perfect start, but damn could you see the potential in this kid.
  6. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 07:01 PM) Guerrero was striking out everyone in the first half but the Ks have disappeared in the 2nd half. Was just thinking the same thing.
  7. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 06:13 PM) I am really jonesing for some Delmonico and Moncada. I was actually watching every game for a while. But once those two & Lopez went down it's been a tough watch.
  8. QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 12:27 PM) You and Greg should have a cage match There's no doubt they are the same underlying person.
  9. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Sep 1, 2017 -> 11:02 AM) Even above that we are starting to see results from the previous classes. Micker Adolfo had a great year. A guy like Luis Martinez is pushing through the system. Carlos Perez improved a lot as the season went on. These guys are filling up the rosters in Arizona and Great Falls. I'll be honest, we really need to see several more of these guys hit full season ball before I get excited.
  10. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 11:02 PM) You wait. Kopech and Gio will not be in the bigs til September next year. Sox will not rush guys in a wasted season. I know I've been up and down on Lopez. I'm not THAT high on him yet. Do you guys think he's a lock to be a No. 2, 3 stud or are u like me and not convinced? I do worship Rodon. I'm convinced he'll be a stud, health permitting. I know he's a free agent, but I figure he's one of those guys you could just sign for pennies w/out much competition. He has to be happy with Coop and nobody's offering him much dough this offseason. I feel like he could be a moderately acceptable starter if we're trying to win. He's certainly LIGHT YEARS better than Shields or the two guys who are not as good as Fathom: Holland and Pelfrey. I figure MiGo is the kinda guy who after the season ended woulda agreed to a cheap contract and stay on the south side with Coop. Why would trading him now prevent us from bringing him back in the offseason? I really don't understand how your brain works.
  11. QUOTE (greg775 @ Aug 31, 2017 -> 10:54 PM) I wish we could develop hitters like Coop does pitchers. Cause this is another intriguing guy, Forbes. 6-3, 180? Wow. A tall third baseman. ... A second round pick who has done nothing so far in the minors. Only 21. Obviously has talent. But will he ever sniff the majors? I know I've ripped MiGo in the past but he actually had some good starts. Do u think this moves means we truly are tanking again next year? We've pretty much dealt every MLB pitcher who possibly could get anybody out this year. Nobody's taken Holland or Pelfrey so far cause they are off the charts lousy. Me thinks our staff is gonna be putrid next year cause cooler heads will prevail and Sox won't rush the prospects. Yup, us trading a free agent to be definitely means we'll be tanking next year. That's some quality deductive reasoning right there Greg. Well done.
  12. QUOTE (Jerksticks @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 07:51 PM) Everyone gets that man. We all agree. Everyone. I bet that's what the Sox do, in fact, pretty much everyone thinks that's what the Sox will do. That's the really SAFE bet at this point. No balls or smarts required to bet on that outcome. You claimed it was a "fireable offense" to have him break camp. I think it's ok, fun, & smart to try to come up with scenarios where that is a justified move. For the reasons people have listed above, there are ways where it makes sense. No, not everyone gets this. The person I continue to reply to definitely does not get this. He's so impatient that he'd sacrafice a full year of control during our window for two measly starts in a lost season.
  13. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 30, 2017 -> 02:49 PM) Never mind that he gives them a much better chance to win games than Covey. If he earns it they should let him up, this isn't Rodon. There is no Boras lurking. If he performs the Sox should be very aggressive in extending him. For two f***ing starts in a meaningless season. I guess you don't care about the 32 starts six years from now when we should (hopefully) have a World Series caliber roster in place. This is literally one of the dumbest ideas I have ever seen and the idea we can just assume he'll be open to an extension because Boras isn't his agent is absurd. Look at the amount of pre arb extensions in recent years. There really haven't been that many of them and the number is trending down. Under no circumstance do you pass up a guaranteed extra year of control. It's really that simple.
  14. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 10:52 PM) I think service time is a much smaller concern in pitchers than it is hitters. Boras clients notwithstanding, pitchers seem very keen on locking in extensions once they are able. If Kopech breaks camp with the big league club and is lights out for his first two full seasons it is very likely he will lock-in a below-market extension (that would still make him set for life) rather than risk injury for four more seasons waiting on a massive payday. The Sox probably already have some idea of Kopech's camps willingness to embark on such an extension, and if they feel its a strong possibility there is really no reason for Kopech to waste his talents in Charlotte. Not waiting two weeks to ensure an extra year of control would be a fireable offense IMO. I can't believe there are people on this site who would be ok with. Completely mind-boggling.
  15. QUOTE (raBBit @ Aug 29, 2017 -> 11:43 AM) Sox need to trade MiGo and get Covey back in the rotation. 100% agree. Hopefully Gonzalez doesn't make his next start on the 31st.
  16. Cooper may be a little overrated, but he's one of the better pitching coaches in baseball and has certainly been better then what we've had on the hitting side.
  17. QUOTE (South Sider @ Aug 28, 2017 -> 12:27 AM) Several large plot points were realized, a new one seemingly legitimized with Tyrion potentially betraying Daenarys. Jamie BAILS on Cersei, Qyburns zombie-boner is raging, Cleganebowl pretty much confirmed, Baelish finally got what he has had coming for 7 f***ing seasons, Bran finally listens to what Lyanna was saying to Ned ;-) bad ass blue fire breathing dragon even deadlier than regular fire breathing dragon pwns the wall... forgettable indeed. You will have forgotten all of this even happened by the time you are making your popcorn and nerding out to the season premier in 12-18 months. Christ some people are hard to please. It's not without its faults but if you really wanted to turn off the show while Baelish was finally getting his... or when Mountain might be killing Jamie.. because it was TOO predictable then guess what, you are THINKING too much. Predictability isnt necessarily a bad thing. How do like 90% of shows and movies that all have good and evil usually end? Guess what, good prevails over evil. Since the bible, since stories in general, because guess what.. good is cooler than evil. Here's unpredictable for you, a giant meteor crashes into Westeros and does the majority of the NKs work for him. Littlefinger mindf***s Sansa and Arya into killing each other. Cersei wins over a dragon by sheer political prowess. Edmure Tully finds his way to the dragon pit and kills everyone. Ahhh yes, instant satisfaction due to the unpredictable nature of the show? If you are expecting unpredictability with 1 season left at this point, you are fooling yourself. I must have missed the Tyrion potentially betraying Dany plot point. When did this happen? And a Qyburn zombie-boner & a future Cleganebowl being confirmed while fun aren't exactly major plot points. Last night's episode wasn't bad, I definitely overreacted a bit because of unrealistic expectations of what a finale in the penultimate season should be like. But I do stand by the claim of the episode being way too predictable, given that the "anything can happen / anyone can die" vibe is a big part of the allure of the show in the first place. Nothing wrong with one big twist or turn as we approach the end game, even if "good prevail over evil" as you state. This season overall has been disappointing though, with some of the worst pacing the show has ever seen. And with that came way too much convenient storytelling. This season screamed out to me that the producers of the show are finally getting worn down from running it and want to get to finish line ASAP. The production remains top notch, but some of the writing just feels lazy at this point. Also, how in the world are they going to wrap things up in six episodes? They need to settle both the Great War & Iron Throne storylines in about 400 minutes. Hopefully they can pull it off without feeling rushed.
  18. Pretty dissapointed with the episode and the season. Tonight was super predictable. The Littlefinger death should have been cool, but felt completely lacking. What else really happened? The only part I liked was Euron pretending to be scared and Cersei plotting her next move for once the war against the dead is over. Otherwise, this was a pretty forgettable episode given there are only six left.
  19. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 26, 2017 -> 12:32 PM) Wow, really? I'm surprised that it would require that much. That hurts. Maybe a qualifying offer isn't such a good idea, after all. I wonder if that isn't negatively affecting any current trade negotiations. Why would it hurt trade negotiations? No one would ever consider giving him a QO so it's a non-issue.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 11:51 PM) Dropped to 3rd tonight. Why is Miguel Gonzalez still on this team? He's going to cost us the 2nd pick.
  21. QUOTE (Lillian @ Aug 26, 2017 -> 04:45 AM) Look at Collin's split stats, for the season. He has very good numbers vs. RHP. That should be all that matters, because as a catcher, he is not likely to face many LH pitchers. He will be platooned, as are almost all catchers, in order to provide the necessary rest from the rigors of that position. Between Winston-Salem and his first few games at Birmingham, he is hitting approximately .250 with a .400 OBP and .500 slugging %, versus RHP. He's also hitting XBH at a rate of about 30 doubles and 30 homers. With him it all comes down to defense. Can he be passable behind the plate? I'm confident the bat will play if he can stick at catcher. To your point, the natural platooning of the position only makes that more likely. Blocking seems like it will always be an issue for him due to a lack of athleticism. Realistically, it will all come down to game management, limiting the run game, & framing. He's done a great job throwing out runners this year, so there's at least one plus. We'll just have to wait and see where those other areas shake out when he finally reaches the pros. Are there any sites that show minor league framing? Would be interesting to see if he's making any process in that particular area.
  22. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 06:52 PM) It's a one year deal, and the guy seems to be a bit on the whiny side. Ideally they'll do him like the Seahawks did Flynn and they just retain Glennon as a backup option. But if Connor Shaw lights it up in the fourth preseason game and they like Sanchez as a backup/mentor, all the while Glennon continued to be terrible in the games and practice while developing a negative attitude, would rather the Bears eat the money. And no way it would be one of the dumbest moves in sports history. Absolutely preposterous. Nope, the only thing preposterous is thinking the Bears would eat millions and take a $14M cap hit because of "controversy and tension" (or in other words competition). I can't even begin to describe just how stupid that would be. You even contradict yourself above by saying ideally they'd keep him as a backup. Short of Glennon committing some sort of felony (and a bad one at that), it's all but a certainty he'll be a Bear this season.
  23. Need keeper advice. I'm in a 12 team, 0.5 PPR league where you have to keep one player and they cost you your first round. Unfortunately for me, my best two options are Gurley & Hilton. Who would you guys keep?
  24. QUOTE (Alexeihyeess @ Aug 25, 2017 -> 03:49 PM) Yea their minds appear to be changing. If Trubisky outplays Glennon again on Sunday they'll start Mitch week one. No use wasting time, get him out there. I wonder if they'll just cut Glennon to escape the controversy and tension (not to mention media surliness), Trubisky seems to be really assuming an alpha role in the locker room. Just accept the money as a sunk cost and move on. Wouldn't be shocked. You are insane if you think there's any chance they just eat that money. Would be one the dumbest moves in sports history.
