  1. QUOTE (kitekrazy @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 11:07 PM) So which guy in the pen blows it this time. I think we're going to win this one.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 10:47 PM) Ugly five game stretch for Moncada. Jinxed him with the "A Star is Born" thread... Well you better start a "A Flop is Born" thread to fix this s***!
  3. I love me some Nicky. And I really hope they keep Abreu around through the rebuild. He seems like a great clubhouse presence for all these young guys and not just the LatAm or Cuban guys.
  4. QUOTE (FT35 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 10:10 PM) Ha! Cause Cody is Legend? Probably just not overthinking it--didn't think Nicky was ready, start the season with your vet--place hold him for someone young to take his spot. I'm not sure anyone saw this type of promise from Delmonico back in ST. There are several posters who have been high on him for a while now, but the reality is his numbers will come back to earth as his .455 BABIP regresses to the mean. I'm still ecstatic about his performance though, especially for a rookie.
  5. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 10:08 PM) Always seems to have good at bats with a mighty swing. Was actually surprised he didn't light up AAA more The BB & K rates were nice. Seems like the power faded as the year progressed for some reason.
  6. QUOTE (Wanne @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 10:05 PM) Honest question...how did the Sox leave camp with Asche over Delmonico? I know it happens...but geez. Nick was raking in ST too.... I may be Delmonico's biggest fan on this site, but he needed time to work on his defense without having the pressures of being on a major league team. Plus more time in AAA was a good thing for his bat based on the significant reduction in his K rate.
  7. If he maintains his production over the next six weeks, I wouldn't be against a cheap extension. Out of all the surprises this year (Avi, Davidson, Sanchez, etc.), I have the most faith in Leury going forward.
  8. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 09:35 PM) More I don't think Blake is anything special. As for Collins, I'm higher on him now that he has said some of his slump was due to trying to make changes to the hitch during the season That's good to know. I'm pretty certain that he'll work on swing during the offseason and hopefully make enough changes to get that K rate down to a respectable level. If he can stick at catcher defensively, it won't take much of an improvement in his K rate to become a viable everyday guy given his batting eye & power.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 06:49 PM) Well Adolfo too who has turned it around some. We definitely need one of these guys to hit. Was really hoping for a better year out of Nunez, really could use some MI prospects Whoops, good call on Adolfo. He's at least a top 20 org guy. No one else is really close. And I agree on Nunez, was really hoping he'd force his way to full season ball next season. That still might happen, but this season won't help matters.
  10. QUOTE (bmags @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:57 PM) Also worth noting Gonzalez after a slow start has been on fire in August with a .400 OBP Yeah, he's been awesome as of late.
  11. QUOTE (flavum @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 09:26 PM) 3 outcomes Collins You bastard!
  12. Collins with a perfect three outcome game now: 1/3, HR, 1 BB, 2 K
  13. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 09:02 PM) I would flip Collins with Rutherford I thought you were down on Collins. Is that not the case? Or is that more of a reflection of your view of Rutherford?
  14. Leury just looks like he belongs in the majors, which is shocking given where he was a few years ago. Even if he doesn't end up an everyday type guy (I'm not writing that off yet), he could still be a hell of a supersub. Plus he's got three years of control after this season, so if he does prove himself over the next 12 months, he could actually be worth something of decent value or possibly fit into the long-term mix if he's open to an extension.
  15. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:14 PM) I just don't see the point in calling him up this year. Save the service time and let him earn a spot next season. You're not going to get more service time out of him unless you wait until like June next year. He's very likely to be a part of the 2018 opening day rotation and if that's the case, give him six weeks up in the majors now to start his adjusting to the big leagues. I'm really starting to buy into us being a fringe contender in 2019 and having Lopez & Giolito a bit more seasoned will only help that cause.
  16. QUOTE (Knuckles @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:12 PM) Last 5 starts: 1.71 ERA, 11BB, 28SO Opp bat avg .221 (25-113) per mike486 on twitterz That obviously doesn't include tonight either and he was awesome.
  17. QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 01:20 PM) Both Hayes and Merkin has suggested Giolito there, so I bet its him. Wouldn't be my choice. Why is that? Not looking to argue, just trying to understand your reasoning.
  18. Let's see here: Tyler Clippard for rest of season + meaningless wins + 2nd overall pick OR $1M+ in cash + 1st overall pick (hypothetical) + $500k larger bonus pool Hmmm, this is a tough one!
  19. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:32 PM) $1 million is nothing in baseball terms. While nothing special, he was the only guy on the roster who showed any competence in the pen - a pen that has to support a starting staff that has trouble finishing the 6th inning. So why give him up for a pittance? Do they have to have THE number 1 pick to make a good pick?
  20. Seattle is 1.5 games and could use another starter in the near term. I'll go with them.
  21. QUOTE (Heads22 @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:41 PM) Ideally they trade MiGo and Lucas can stay up. I agree, and honestly, I can't imagine Gonzalez makes his next start (someone will take him on the cheap).
  22. QUOTE (Tony @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:35 PM) I honestly didn't really factor in his MLB performance thus far. I just don't know if Moncada has ever had a run like this at any stage of the minors. Eloy has just been incredible. Didn't mean you specifically. Have just seen a lot of negativity over his slow start, which I don't think is wrong. Don't get me wrong, I think he has a higher floor and requires less projection than Yoan. But damn if Moncada puts all his tools together along with that batting eye and you have a top two or three player in the game. Jimenez's defensive limitations (not that he's a bad defender) cap his value to some extent. But whatever, the fact we have both of them is all that really matters!
  23. QUOTE (SoxAce @ Aug 16, 2017 -> 08:33 PM) Luis Martinez continues to be an enigma for me. Kid is a serious sleeper as a prospect, by my god... so inconsistent. He's still got a chance, although in a year or two I'm sure they'll move him to the pen. What's crazy is despite his stuff he's not a top 30 prospect in our system.
