  1. I don't think Law has a White Sox bias, but IMO he purposely goes for some shock rankings to drive traffic/attention.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 12, 2017 -> 12:21 AM) 4) It's almost the perfect case study for a class on public relations/customer service/how NOT to do damage control until hundreds of millions of dollars of company/shareholder value have disappeared. This is just ridiculous, the stock price will rebound as soon as people move on to the next faux outrage subject. No long-term shareholder value has been lost as a result of this. United will pay some measly settlement to this guy (a big amount for him but not them) and people will continue to fly an airline they generally dislike because that's the way the industry works. No matter how hard people like you or BigSqwert to try to burn them to the ground, they will keep chugging along like business as usual. So maybe it's time you find a different "cause" to put your efforts behind, because you're just wasting your time with this one.
  3. Reynold back out for the 6th despite approaching 100 pitches.
  4. United may suck as an airline, but it's amazing to me how many people want to see them burn to the ground over one isolated incident. Our country has really gotten out of control with this faux outrage culture. And lol @ the comment about business schools studying this fiasco for years. This will be long forgotten in a few short months and the stock price will rebound even sooner.
  5. Damn, outside of that HR, Lopez has been straight filthy so far tonight. 3 IP, 6K, 1 BB, 1 H, 1 HR, 1 ER
  6. QUOTE (ptatc @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 07:53 AM) It's like the other posters have said. If it stays at this rate in the MLB, it will be fine. however, high K rates in the minors may have a bigger effect on the contact rate in the MLB if it goes up and the BB rate goes down. It isn't a death sentence right now but it isn't a positive. Nice summary, my thoughts exactly.
  7. QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 11, 2017 -> 12:23 AM) Poor guy was bleeding. I tell you what there should be additional lawsuits from people claiming they were traumatized. If I get blood of another human being on me, I'm suing. Wow, this post is exactly what's wrong with this country. If someone is traumatized over watching this, then they must have lived the most sheltered life possible.
  8. QUOTE (Greg Hibbard @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 10:28 PM) It's not like the Sox were stuck with this guy The went out and got this guy. This guy specifically. They went out and got this guy for free. That's the key here. And they signed him to most likely be a bench piece. Right now he's in the DH mix, but if Davidson continues to show anything, Asche will get less and less playing. I guess I don't really get why cares this much about a guy who is meant to be a backup.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 09:52 PM) I think people still care way too much about strikeouts. In what sense? I'd wager that prospects with high K rates tend to bust far more frequently than their counterparts, as their K rates are only going to get worse at the major league level. Sure, there are exceptions, but I'm not banking on Moncada being the next Kris Bryant. I'm not panicking about this just yet since the sample size so small, but a 30% K rate in AAA (if it stays at that level) screams that the kid needs more development time IMO.
  10. QUOTE (BigSqwert @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 08:20 PM) And the winner for worst take goes to..... This directed at me? If so, at least quote my post if you're going to take a dig at me without providing a single counterpoint.
  11. Hate to be the debbie downer here, but I want to see Moncada cut down on his K rate. Obviously it's a very small sample, but striking out 30% of the time in AAA is a huge red flag. I'd ideally like to see him in the 20% to 25% range before calling him up.
  12. While I will not defend the forceful nature in which the passenger was removed from the plane, I'm still not sure what United did wrong here. They have internal polices in place on the dollar amount of travel vouchers they can offer in these situations and no one ended up biting. By law they are allowed to remove passengers from the flight. This passenger decides he's not getting off the plane and caused United to force him off instead. I don't really see what the alternative was for United. IMO, the issue here is an overzealous police officer who simply got way too physical in removing said passenger from the plane. I really don't see why so many people are ragging on United over this other than some residual tied to that stupid legging drama.
  13. Not sure if people realize this, but you get some nice compensation if you get bumped from an oversold flight and do not accept their offer. I was the last man bumped on a Vegas flight a few years back for the NCAA Tournament and I ended up getting +$1,000 in cash (not vouchers) plus a direct flight about four hours later. Sucked missing the first round of games, but ended up with a ton more in gambling money. So if you ever think you're going to be the one left without a seat, make sure to pass on the travel vouchers and force an involuntarily denied boarding.
  14. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 06:59 PM) Solorzano off to great start He's a guy who would shoot up the prospect charts with a little uptick in velocity. Kid just knows how to pitch.
  15. QUOTE (fathom @ Apr 10, 2017 -> 06:19 PM) Basabe hurt? Out two straight How about Adolfo? Out three games now.
  16. The first rule of rebuilding is you don't rush legit prospects. Let them finish their development in the minors and/or accrue an extra year of team control. Therefore, a guy like Asche makes perfect sense as a fill-in. He can platoon at DH with Davidson until one of them shows they deserve everyday at-bats or until a better option presents itself. My guess is in two months or so we will see Hayes up here and given a shot at DH, but until then the b****ing about Asche really needs to stop. No one should have expected proven veterans or quality prospects at every position during the first few months of a rebuild. This s*** is going to take some time.
  17. QUOTE (Soha @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 09:33 PM) I guess, but it also seems to count strikeouts, which aren't anymore 'in play' than home runs. It doesn't count strikeouts, that's the whole point. It allows you see a player's batting average not tied to frequency of contact.
  18. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 08:13 PM) Well, it does matter. You'd still like to see him get some punchouts, but it's more acceptable from him than most other guys. I guess the point being for the type of pitcher he is, a 9-1 go/ao ratio is more encouraging to me than his k rate is discouraging. A low K rate is ok for his type of pitcher, but like I said, 4 K's per 9 won't cut it in the majors.
  19. Two games without Adolfo, please tell me he's not injured already.
  20. QUOTE (Blackout Friday @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 06:28 PM) He's a sinkerballer. 9-1 GO/FO Doesn't matter, 4 K's per 9 isn't going to work at the major league level.
  21. QUOTE (Soha @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 05:45 PM) Gonna guess that stat doesn't include home runs, which he has 9 of so far. Now, why a stat would be useful by subtracting home runs is beyond me. Because it's only considering balls in play, which seems to make sense to me.
  22. QUOTE (bmags @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 04:00 PM) I think it's kinda ridiculous to say Alvarez is incredibly overrated and then lost his upside as a reserve infielder, which is basically the same opinion as those rooting for him. He's fast and has good OBP skills, and a good story. Not everyone people root for is because they think they'll be stars. The fact that he's a good story is part of the reason why he's overrated. Go ahead and cheer for him all you want, but I hear way more about him than other prospects in our system who also have backup ceilings. He's routinely on these sleeper lists and I'm pretty sure a certain poster here predicted Alvarez would develop into a top 100 prospect at one point. If it weren't for his interesting background, he'd just be another organizational guy IMO.
  23. Wow, can't believe Anderson didn't go there.
  24. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 01:48 PM) you're not going to like this, rowand44. But Kyle Schwarber eats baseballs and has me shooker than any player in baseball sans Mike Trout. Lol...you are a complete joke bro.
  25. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 9, 2017 -> 02:46 PM) Danish 5 innings, 1 run. 101 pitches. Only two K's, which isn't going to work.
