  1. QUOTE (flavum @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 09:10 AM) https://twitter.com/RobRains/status/759749315191410688 Well this turned to out to be legit.
  2. f***, liked Cleveland as a landing spot for Lucroy. Put some pressure on the other AL contenders.
  3. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 09:49 AM) Yeah, the thing with Duke is, he is one of the guys you don't have to move just to move...because you're going to need pen arms next year and he would be just as attractive at next year's deadline as this year's (if not more). Maybe they actually like this guy, because there was no reason to give Duke away. Yeah, I'm guessing they're higher on him than most. Just not sure what this accomplishes long-term when you have a guy like Adam Engel with far more upside sitting at AAA right now. Again, I think Tilson can be a nice 4th OF, but that's so far down our list of needs, I'm shocked they went there first. Plus we already have a lack of power throughout our OF. Oh well, at the very least they better be planning on calling him up soon. No reason at this point not to give him the CF job for two months and see what you have.
  4. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 09:40 AM) Tilson, a Wilmette native and New Trier H.S. grad, was rated by Baseball America as the Fastest Baserunner in the STL organization in '13. https://twitter.com/whitesox/status/759760283732680704 New Trier GM acquire New Trier minor leaguer. Somewhat sketchy IMO. Anyways, not a huge fan at first glance. Guy looks like JB Shuck's replacement, i.e. a 4th OF. I obviously wasn't expecting a ton for Duke, but would have rather gambled on a lower level prospect with upside than a high floor, limited ceiling type.
  5. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) As I posted yesterday, Kimbrall was making a rehab start last night. According to Boston Globe, he will be reactivated on Monday. So they will not want Robertson. Maybe Duke would attract their interest. Also it appears Benintendi may be recalled to play LF for their stretch run after their road trip. He may now be off the trade board as Boston continues to add young players with last names beginning w B. Just because they have Kimbrel coming back soon, doesn't mean they wouldn't be interested in another back-end reliever. Robertson would still be a weapon for them. And where did you see anything about Benintendi coming up? He has 258 plate appearances in AA, that would be an absurd rush job.
  6. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 09:14 AM) It seems crazy how little has happened thus far, White Sox or otherwise... If the Sox are serious about making multiple moves this deadline, then I'd fully expect something to go down today. There's absolutely no excuse for not moving Robertson & Duke. Melky is having a very nice offensive year and his value will never be higher. The only thing that could be holding us back on them is perhaps some of these suitors are also interested in Sale or Quintana. That could complicate their markets. The same apples to Shields & Gonzalez. At some point though, the Sox simply can't executive four or five moves at the same time. If nothing goes down today, I'm going to be real worried that the Sox will be standing pat.
  7. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 08:30 AM) Honestly ship one of each sale and q to one and the other. Who ever loses out on sale can have Quintana. The sox should be able to rebuild very quick I'd deal Sale now and look into dealing Quintana in the offseason. The big difference between these two guys is stuff and the potential to dominate a playoff game or series. As good as Q is, if I needed a starter for a one game playoff (as the Red Sox would at the moment), it's going to be hands down Sale. The same goes for any playoff series, as Sale simply has the stuff to carry a team in October. The idea of having Sale for four post-season runs has to be incredibly attractive to the Red Sox as it fits perfect with their core of position players. Quintana, on the other hand, is the definition of durable/reliable top of the rotation starter. While he would no doubt help a team in the playoffs, his value is in his ability to greatly help a team get there. With an extra year of control and ever more team friendly contract, there should be plenty of interest in him from both large and small market teams. I would rather have as many suitors as possible, including the losers in the Sale sweepstakes, bidding on him. That requires dealing him in the offseason. Not against dealing him now if blown away, but I think you're better off putting teams against one another for Sale than having teams competing for two similar assets. The idea there can only be one winner should drive up the return.
  8. This is Andrew Miller trade is great news for us on the Sale front. First off, the Indians are now loaded and arguably the best team in the AL. With their pitching staff, I know I wouldn't face them in the playoffs. That has to motivate other contenders like the Red Sox, Rangers, & Astros to improve their clubs. Second, the Yankees have stacked their farm system with the Chapman & Miller trades. A deal built around Frazier (#21), Mateo (#19) or Torres (#27), Sanchez (#36), & Judge (#42) would be incredibly attractive to us. So not only do we now have another bidder in the mix who has the pieces to make Sale deal happen, this same team is also the biggest rival for the organization that we'd most like to make a deal with in the Red Sox. I know some posters here like to pretend rivalries shouldn't matter, but the reality is they do. Imagine how much the Red Sox fanbase would meltdown if the Yankees, not legit even playoff contenders, landed one of the favorites for the AL Cy Young today or tomorrow. This is the exact scenario we were hoping for all along, two teams desperately competing against one another for the same player. All we need is one of them to do something stupid. Not saying it's going to happen, but we're in a much better spot today than we were yesterday.
  9. QUOTE (bmags @ Jul 31, 2016 -> 07:47 AM) And this is why even had the sox season gone a little better we were still forcing issue. We had no farm to compete for deals like Indians did. And this officially makes the "one last run in 2017" plan lunacy for us. We're currently 9.5 games behind a team that's added Lucroy & Miller, both under control next year, and who still has arguably a better farm system then us. Blow this team up and look towards 2019 to be competive, when our young players might be ready and when we can finally flex our finacial muscle in an elite free agent class over our small market competitors.
  10. Price for Lucroy seems pretty reasonable. Can't believe no else could top it. Hopefully this puts some pressure on Boston, Texas, & Houston to make some deals.
  11. QUOTE (Two-Gun Pete @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 10:51 PM) Off the top of my head, that actually may not be enough, when you add up the current & surplus value. At the same time, Boston might not need a ~2 WAR SP for the rest of this season to compete. WTF? Surely you can't be seriously?!
  12. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 09:52 PM) First all you need to do us define a true White Sox fan I have no idea what this means, but you saying this team already has all it needs to compete next year falls outside of reality and doesn't make you a better fan than anyone else.
  13. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 09:37 PM) We have our closer and rest of the team we need for 2017 Why do you feel the need to post this nonsense?
  14. QUOTE (Insp @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 08:57 PM) Interesting how once Ventura throws the game away, people show up here in droves............. Interesting how you post this every game....
  15. QUOTE (SoxPride18 @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 08:53 PM) Sell. Sell. Sell. I'll been following the game on my phone, saw Albers was in, and then suddenly saw the page count go from 5 to 7 in a matter of minutes. Knew immediately Albers blew the game. Hopefully this is further proof to the front office to sell.
  16. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 08:44 PM) Well if he blocks out the name and number, then what difference does that make? Are you f***ing serious? Would you appreciate that if you were an advanced scout leaking this information for no monetary gain? Would you like him tweeting the world what teams his sources are scouts for? Because he did that today. He's an arrogant f*** and not someone I would trust passing information to when it would cost me my job if I got caught.
  17. QUOTE (IowaSoxFan @ Jul 29, 2016 -> 08:32 PM) Rea is better than Gonzales and has a bunch more control as well. Rea left his start today with an injury, maybe the Marlins come crawling back on Gonzalez.
  18. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 08:32 PM) whitesoxdave ‏@barstoolWSD 4m4 minutes ago Chicago, IL I am #done talking about the trade deadline until Monday. #done https://twitter.com/barstoolWSD/status/759561310619271168 Lol this guy is something else He's definitely got sources, but my god, why would you leak info to this guy? I'm pretty sure he was tweeting screen-caps of text messages from two of his sources. I wouldn't trust someone with an ego as big as his.
  19. wRC+ for our lineup tonight: 76 84 116 96 75 88 58 -21 54 Looks like an average between 60 & 70. Wow is that bad.
  20. QUOTE (WhiteSoxLifer @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 03:08 PM) Lucroy is out of lineup tonight for Brewers Watch the Sox get him and say they are going for it.
  21. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 02:45 PM) Well, he doesn't have to be a sub-2 ERA guy for the rest of the year to want to opt out. But if his last 15 starts of the year or so result in an ERA in the 3's in a hitters ballpark, I could see him possibly opting out to go to a team that is NOT rebuilding like the Sox may be. No way in hell is James Shields opting out, it's simply not happening. The guy is guaranteed $42M over the next two years. He is not getting more than that as a free agent. I think there's a better chance he retires than opting out.
  22. QUOTE (ChiliIrishHammock24 @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 02:33 PM) Well, I guess James Shields is the only guy that *COULD* be an expiring deal if he pitches well enough to opt out. I still think he's a better candidate for an August trade anyway though. The odds of Shields keeping this performance up is incredibly low. His periphials suck and some serious regression should be expected. All it takes is one s***ty start for him to destroy all the goodwill he's developed over the past 5 starts. Deal him now while there still is some interest.
  23. My concern is this front office simply doesn't know how to sell. I'm trying to think of players they've sold at the deadline in years past and I can only think of terrible and/or meaningless deals. Ray Durham for Jon Adkins. James Baldwin for three low level prospects, one of which was a player they weren't expecting (Berry vs Barry). Thome & Iguchi for basically nothing (not suggesting they had value). Hell, Jesse Crain went from highly desirable asset to completely worthless by the time we moved him (bad luck there). Point is I can't recall the last time we made a sale of significance at the deadline, let alone under this regime. Maybe I'm overlooking some deals, but I'm a bit worried they're in over their heads. Not sure they get the market is always fluid and if you overplay your hand, another seller can pop in and totally change the dynamics. You got to act swiftly at times and be patient at others. It's a very challenging process, one that requires quick, decisive decision-making. And here we stand, 50 hours remaining until the deadline and we've done absolutely nothing. Even if they want to be patient with Sale & Quintana, they should have been aggressive with some of their lesser assets. If the price for Shields is any indication of the asks for their other players, then teams will quickly find cheaper alternatives. Right now, it almost feels like they think they're the only shop in town and won't budge from their ridiculous demands. I hope that isn't the case, but I have a bad feeling we're going to be the one team without a chair when the music finally stops.
  24. QUOTE (Eminor3rd @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 12:28 PM) This team is jack without Sale. We simply don't have the depth to absorb the blow without starting over. This team is jack with Sale though. What would you suggest they do? Hold pat? I don't see how gradual improvements over the next three years will be enough when Chris will be exiting via free agency in 2020. Starting over is really our only option.
  25. QUOTE (South Sider @ Jul 30, 2016 -> 11:55 AM) Thinking of the possibilities and being teased is fun, but I think JR would rather reload in the offseason then sell off assets. I'd say it is unlikely Sale or Quintana get traded. While I'm sure Reinsdorf would love to reload, I'm not sure how that's even possible. He'd have to spend like crazy on the few attractive free agents and/or give up pretty much everything of value in an already depleted system. Quite frankly, I don't think Hahn could make a realistic business case for competing next year even if he wanted to. That doesn't mean they go full rebuild, but there should definitely be some selling.
