  1. Gonzalez has pitched very well against the Blue Jays in his career (3-2, 2.82). Let's hope he dominates these f***s one more time and can keep the streak alive! Go Sox!!!!
  2. QUOTE (TaylorStSox @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 09:45 PM) A million fan theories about Doran Martell are up in smoke. I really don't think the show and the books are going to be all that similar going forward.
  3. QUOTE (ZoomSlowik @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 08:59 PM) Seriously, f*** Dorne. What do you mean by this?
  4. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 06:10 PM) The defense. I know someone posted the defensive stats the other day, and the Sox were near the top of the league in pretty much everything. Is the change in defense just due to Jackson and Frazier coming in? If so, what is causing the change in a guy like Melky Cabrera? The big coaching change that has hardly been mentioned this year is Rick Renteria coming in this year. Could a big part of the changes be the doing of Renteria? Yeah, the pitching has been unreal, but I would love to know how to quantify how the changes in the defense has benefited the pitching numbers. I literally just posted this another thread, but I think the Renteria addition is having a huge impact on the team.
  5. I think the addition of Renteria has really helped Ventura. Probably our most underrated move of the offseason.
  6. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 03:07 PM) It wouldn't surprise me at all if Abreu hits .400 from tomorrow to the All Star Break. He's going to hit. There's absolutely no reason to think he won't get out of this funk and do so soon. Remember when people were calling the Frazier trade a disaster only a week ago. Guys slump even the best ones.
  7. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 03:01 PM) I have to admit now that I am concerned about Abreu You're worried about Jose Abreu over a couple bad weeks, but don't want to give up on Avi after 1,000 bad at-bats. Makes perfect sense.
  8. How many outs on the bases have we had this series? Sands & Frazier today. Rollins & Navarro yesterday. Am I missing any?
  9. 3-1 Sox! Not sure what the f*** Sands was doing there, but oh well!
  10. QUOTE (flavum @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 11:05 AM) The Sox are really at the point with Danks of, "Are we better off giving somebody else these last 27-29 starts?" Once the answer is Yes, you release Danks and eat the money. I'm not sure they're there yet. Or do you give him a chance in the pen? He might provide some value as a long-man and/or LOOGY.
  11. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 06:14 AM) That's so much to cover in two seasons. Really seems like the show is going to be radically different than the books going forward. I think we'll have the same general endgame (Dany takes the Iron Throne, Great War with the White Walkers), but how we get there will be very, very different. I'm interested to see how they cover the remaining book material while finishing the overall story in 23 episodes. We know Euron/Kingsmoot & Jamie going to the Riverlands are in this season. We haven't seen yet what the ultimate payoff of these events are in the books, but I'm struggling to see how they conclude them properly and still have enough time for the two big storylines (Dany to Westeros, White Walker war) that remain. My guess is there won't be a lot of dicking around when Dany arrives in Westeros and things will move fast.
  12. Smith's management company confirms he's coming up.
  13. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Apr 24, 2016 -> 02:09 AM) Yeah this has less to do with optimism in Coats and more to do with how useless and bad Avi is. I'm in full agreement with this. And I'm not accusing every poster who'd like to give Coats a chance as over-hyping him either. I've just seen multiple posters talk him up like he has a good chance of being a very solid regular at the major league level when in reality he's got 4th OF upside. The guy doesn't draw walks, hits for below average power for a corner OF, & is not an elite defender. He does nothing especially well. IMO, guys like him don't translate well to the pros, but again, I fully agree it's time to try something different at DH and there's little risk in giving Coats a shot.
  14. QUOTE (Buehrle>Wood @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 11:59 PM) There's not much buzz at all with Coats. He's rated properly as a mediocre prospect in a weak system that is 26 years old which means sink or swim time for him. And he'd be hard pressed to do any worse than the last guys on the Sox roster. There's been a lot of buzz about him on this site.
  15. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 10:50 PM) Might be? Avi is in such a dense fog right now and others may say has been in that fog his whole career. Sure Coats is overrated but he's the only position player on Charlotte worth talking about because of outstanding numbers (apologies to Smith and Sanchez). I just don't have a lot of faith that Coats is going to come and not struggle like a lot of rookies do, especially ones that are fringe prospects. Having said that, Avi is so bad that it wouldn't take much for Coats outperform him. I'm willing to give him a shot, just not optimistic the result will much better.
  16. GoT producers only want to do another 10-15 episodes after season 6. Therefore, this season will need to cover a ton of ground. In that case, tomorrow's episode pretty much has to end with Jon Snow's resurrection. They really can't afford to drag this out IMO.
  17. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Apr 23, 2016 -> 08:12 PM) Not really. They mean something, though it's a limited something. The problem with Avi is not that he's always been horrible (he hasn't), but that he hasn't progressed at all. Nobody with as many PAs against ML pitching as he's had should be swinging at the junk that he's currently swinging at. He just can't seem to get the mental part of hitting right. What do they mean? When looking at these stats, how do you account for breaking balls not breaking, veteran pitchers working on certain pitches, and the lower overall quality of starting pitching (due to fringe MLB & minor league guys). Avi has not and will never be a disciplined hitter. He'll continue to go into every at-bat with a complete lack of approach. I had hopes for him because he was so raw when he entered the majors, but after 1,000 plate appearances with absolutely no signs of improvement, I've seen enough to come to the conclusion that he is a bad baseball player.
