  1. QUOTE (Tex @ Jun 6, 2016 -> 06:46 AM) I wonder why it is that all over baseball the stupidest people are managing while millions of fans are sitting in the stands who could do it better. Just follow the stats and conventional wisdom. All it really takes is a decent phone and a good internet connection. Look up what to do in each situation and do it. Jeez, how simple can it be? Ugh, same old tired argument. Apparently the 30 smartest & most qualified people in the world are currently managing MLB teams. Might as well shut down this site then. If fans aren't allowed to challenge poor decision-making or even deem a certain manager bad relative to his peers, what else is off limits? I guess the GMs don't make mistakes either, so us "arm chair" GMs really can't question them either. At least we're allowed to rip the players, right Tex? I find it laughable that people continue to defend a guy who literally had no coaching experience before taking the job. The entire hiring process was laughable, ignoring his complete lack of a resume and not interviewing any alternatives. No doubt we had to get the guy with the "Five Star General" traits before the rest of the league realized he was available. And I can already hear the next bulls*** defense coming: he played in the majors for 15 years. Lol at anyone who actually thinks that justifies his hiring.
  2. QUOTE (ptatc @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 10:40 PM) I don't think his point is that the Sox should keep necessarily RV. I think it is anyone expecting any kind of measurable improvement from the team after he's gone is being unrealistic. The team will rise or fall on the backs of the best players. Right now they aren't playing like impact or even good players. Perhaps that's all true, but every game matters and if replacing Robin with Renteria provides us with even one additional win then it's a move worth making.
  3. QUOTE (jasonxctf @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 10:14 PM) You're right. But as a manager, it's easy to manage when times are good and everything's clicking. It's when times are bad, your true talents/skills shine. (Or don't in this case) Great post.
  4. QUOTE (bigruss22 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 09:43 PM) I thought he did a really good job with it, good episode but the next one looks like the usual 1 per season WOAH episode. As good as the next episode looks, episode 9 might end up being the best in the series (to date at least). And I thought tonight's was one of the best of the season so far. Every scene was good, but the way they re-introduced the Hound was very well done.
  5. I think Sands will finally be gone before Tuesday's game.
  6. QUOTE (Black_Jack29 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 08:05 PM) Managers have little effect on the game This is one of the worst arguments for keeping Robin. The dude completely sucks at his job, but because some Fangraphs article says managers don't matter, I guess we should keep him right? Let's ignore an obvious area of potential improvement because it may only be worth a game or two in the long run. And quite frankly, I think it may worth more than that. Just like we're seeing in the valuation of high-end relievers, context does matter and a manager has the ability to impact the outcome of close games. No doubt it's hard to quantify their value, but that doesn't mean they have little impact on the game. Honestly, how many of you apologists still have Robin Ventura posters hanging in your basements? Robin was my favorite player growing up, but you know what, that doesn't mean I can't objective about his abilities as a manager. The guy has accomplished nothing in his tenure with us. He is one of the worst in-game managers I can remember in a long time. I can't think of one positive he provides other than not bringing clubhouse issues to the media. I'm sure the team likes playing for him because he is a nice, laid back guy. Unfortunately, his leadership style isn't working and a change is needed.
  7. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 07:30 PM) Greg Walker was the big problem when he was here. Not the players, not anything else. He gets fired, and the offense was fixed. Nope. I.would.rather the Sox do something player wise.it actually produces results. Why can't we do both? The players and the manager are BOTH problems. Why do you continue to act like we can only address one or the other? Let's get rid of Robin and improve our roster. This isn't an either or thing.
  8. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 06:44 PM) Robin Ventura shouldn't be fired. Compelling stuff right here. Hard to disagree when you put it like that.
  9. QUOTE (Y2JImmy0 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 04:06 PM) Is Rick Hahn allowed to fire him? If not, our organization is a complete joke.
  10. Fire him tomorrow. Prove to your fanbase that losing is no longer accepted. Tell the players they are next if things don't get turned in the next 50 days or so. This time it would actually mean something with Ventura out the door. If no changes tomorrow, the public campaign for Rick Hahn's job should begin. The front office & coaching staff can't blame the players every year, at this point there needs to be some accountability on their end as well.
  11. QUOTE (Thad Bosley @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 02:52 PM) If we had an owner of the impatient variety, we wouldn't be having these kinds of discussions. Sadly, we have quite the opposite. I don't want an impatient owner or front office. All managers deserve a certain amount of rope. However, Robin has had his chance and has accomplished nothing. On top of that, his in-game decision-making has been awful and his teams frequently go on long, horrific slumps. There's nothing on his resume that suggests he's a good manager and plenty of marks against him that suggest he's a bad one. It's clearly time to fire him and see if someone else can lead these players to the playoffs.
  12. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 02:39 PM) That's what I always question. I get the people who think manager doesn't matter, and all of that. But to actively support Ventura staying is bonkers. Exactly, he's done nothing as a manager to deserve unconditional support. And honestly, there's absolutely no downside to firing him right now. Maybe canning him does nothing, but there's nothing to lose at this point and plenty to gain if it does wake this team up.
  13. How can anyone actually still support Ventura at this point? We're about to be 0-9 against divisional opponents in our last 9 games. I'm sorry, but that shouldn't be acceptable to any organization. Time for a change and that change better come tomorrow. We can't afford to wait another series.
  14. QUOTE (elrockinMT @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 02:30 PM) We are just a grand slam away from the lead
  15. And there's the run. Happens every time we blow a great opportunity.
  16. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 01:11 PM) No team does this more than the Sox, most teams get 2 runs that are winning ball clubs. We do have to be the worst in baseball at getting guys in from 3rd with less than two outs. Got to hope Q doesn't give up a run here out of frustration, feel like that happens a lot to us.
  17. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 01:08 PM) I have seen more than enough of Coats goodbye. This has to be an all-time record, even for you!
  18. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 12:43 PM) It looks like the last time he played Cf was 2008. He hasn't had a positive DRS since 2013. His last Range factor over league average was 2010. Now you're just embarrassing me!
  19. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 12:36 PM) The problem is that he can only play LF, and not even that well. Never mind then, thought he could still play some CF.
  20. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 11:45 AM) Dodgers DFA Carl Crawford I'd give him a look over Shuck if it were at the league minimum.
  21. Abreu! Please be fixed! We need you bud!!
  22. QUOTE (flavum @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 12:16 PM) http://www.milb.com/scoreboard/index.jsp?c...mp;ymd=20160605 Ranaudo and Danish starting Anderson at DH. Would love to see Ranaudp build off his last start. With Johnson gone, Beck moved to the pen, & Turner struggling, he has a great opportunity to become our #6/#7 starter depending on what they do with Latos & Gonzalez.
  23. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jun 5, 2016 -> 12:07 PM) Because Ventura and Cooper are managing this operation. Cooper has influence on our lineup now?
  24. Alright, enough negativity for one day, time for some optimism. Jose Quintana is on the mound and leads the AL in ERA. With Sale's recent struggles against AL Central opponents, Q is our stopper and today he will do just that. I'm thinking he goes 7 innings, giving up just one run and retaining his ERA title. Jason Coats is healthy and batting second eager to f*** some Tigers up. I predict he comes a HR shy of the cycle today. Jose Abreu has had back-to-back games with multiple hits. He'll make it a streak today by getting two more hits today. And finally for a reach prediction, but I'm going to say Rollins reaches base twice today just prove us haters wrong.
  25. I think the big takeaway here is just how worthless Sands is. He's literally a backup platoon DH who can't even get playing time when we're down two OFs. Rick Hahn please get his ass off this roster.
