  1. Gigantic f***ing game, as we need to win most series from here on out to have any chance. Games started by Quintana & Sale are basically must wins, so hopefully Jose & Chris bring it the next two days.
  2. QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 06:34 PM) Donaldson always crowds the plate...should they just give him the whole inner half for fear of upsetting him? What would Harrelson say? If you're afraid to come inside, you're not long for the big leagues. For the love of god caulfield, just admit you're a Royals fan.
  3. Early scoreboard watching: Blue Jays up 2-0 in Bot 5th Orioles down 1-3 in Top 5th Rays down 1-3 in Top 4th Twins even at 0-0 in Top 3rd
  4. QUOTE (Brian @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 11:50 AM) Am I missing something or is this article nothing new or unknown? QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 11:52 AM) It was by Bruce Levine, so you know there won't be anything earth shattering... He won't say anything until the news is out already Unless I'm mistaken, I don't believe it was ever announced that the A's gave us an exclusive negotiating window with Shark prior to the trade going through.
  5. QUOTE (SCCWS @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:36 AM) But it is ironic. The guys rumored to be available like Kazmir, Cueto, Hamels and Price all ended up getting moved. So those teams found the right offer but the Sox didn't. I don't think the Sox really wanted to trade Shark unless they got knocked off their feet. That is okay since I actually think the FO thinks they are still in contention. But come October, if they don't at least get a wildcard and Shark walks for a comp pick, then they made a bad decision. 100% disagree here. We don't know the front office's long-term plans and what kind of offers they were actually getting for Shark. If they have any interest in resigning him during free agency, having a comp pick attached to him will improve their chances greatly. So basically by not trading Shark at the deadline, they've maintained a strong rotation for a playoff run, improved their negotiating leverage in free agency, and ensured themselves a comp pick if leaves. IMO, it would have taken a big return to forego those benefits, something like the Tigers got for Price. I'm pretty confident they didn't pass up on that kind of offer.
  6. I think CarGo is very likely to slide through waivers. Didn't really see any rumors connecting us to him, but I still think he's a good fit for us. Whether the Rockies even want to move CarGo at this point remains to be seen, as all good young players & prospects on the 40 man will be out of play.
  7. QUOTE (fathom @ Aug 2, 2015 -> 09:08 AM) Seems like something has clicked for Barnum. Has an extra base hit in something like 9 of last 11 games. Yup, his overall July numbers were very solid but I feel like his K rate has dropped significantly over the past few weeks. I'm not going to get overly excited just yet, but he's done enough this year to remain a prospect of interest.
  8. Lol @ anyone hating on a AAA depth move.
  9. Big game tonight. Always important to win the game after a streak-ender to maintain some momentum. Need Rodon to be sharp and limit the amount of walks. That will likely make or break us tonight.
  10. QUOTE (GreenSox @ Jul 30, 2015 -> 07:39 AM) Gomez is 30 with an OPS .751. What exactly is that worth? Top prospect? Not in my opinion. Avi is 24 and I don't get the zeal to dump him. Gomez is worth Avi but certainly not Avi and the top prospect like Adams or Montas. Maybe you throw in a 10 to 15 rated prospect. Or better yet use a 15 to 20 rid of prospect get a situational hitter like the angels got. Well you completely ignore defense in this analysis, but let's not even consider a deal because you know, hero worshipping.
  11. QUOTE (SouthSideSale @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:47 PM) Well, if Rock isn't kidding, we're adding AJP While I think he was just speculating, adding a third catcher would allow us to use Soto at DH against LHP while still allowing for us to pinch-hit for Flowers late in games (stole this idea from southsidesox). However, this idea becomes pretty pointless if we upgrade RF and let Avi platoon with LaRoche.
  12. QUOTE (CaliSoxFanViaSWside @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:31 PM) Carlos Gomez still available, Go after him . He just cost two major leaguers, what do we have to offer that's comparable?
  13. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:28 PM) I would honestly add two bats if I want a legit chance at competing. Puig will always be my first option. I don't think he's traded though without two starters going out or 1 starter we need and a hot prospect. The point is that we are buying now. So I would try for both CarGo and Justin Upton. We need protection around Abreu. And just DFA Adam LaRoche. Eaton Cabrera CarGo Abreu Upton Get a RF like Cargo, platoon LaRoche & Avi at DH, and call it a day. One bat should be enough IMO.
  14. QUOTE (Frank_Thomas35 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 10:21 PM) Is it odd that there is nothing out there about what our plans may be? Is it a sign that we don't know what to do becUse the fact that there really is a lot of supposed friction in the FO? Or is it how Hahn does it when negotiating? Or do you all think they stand pat and let these guys play out the season? Even the normal inside guys on here are quiet. Just odd to me I guess with two days left. Probably quiet because we went from likely sellers to potential buyers so quickly. I would expect a ton of rumors tomorrow though.
  15. QUOTE (Lillian @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:47 PM) It's time to move Sanchez to his accustomed role of the number 2 hole hitter. He had terrific success there, at AAA. Sanchez doesn't walk much, keep Tyler in the #2 spot.
  16. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:07 PM) Because it's complicated. Framing helps pitchers (which probably increases their WAR), and if you include it for catchers then you're double-counting WAR. While a fair point, not sure it's fair to assign the full value of pitch framing to the catcher when the pitcher clearly has some impact on the process.
  17. QUOTE (OmarComing25 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 09:00 PM) WAR doesn't account for pitch framing though. And why is that? If pitch framing data is as reliable as some here seem to believe, why would WAR exclude it from its valuation of catcher defense?
  18. QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:54 PM) An 8th inning tested guy would be nice. Webb has thrown pretty well but his radar can go at anytime. Hey, hey, hey its Matt Albers has been decent but would you really trust him in a game you had to win? And Nate Jones is throwing zeroes but fanning no one in the minors. I think he still needs time. While everything you said is true, I think it would be a complete waste of resources to trade for an 8th inning guy when Nate Jones is hitting a 100 MPH in AAA. Give him a bit more time and the rust should come off. Until then, Petricka & Putnam are more than serviceable in the 8th inning role and Webb & Albers are fine as 6th/7th inning guys. If you're trading prospects, get a RF that upgrades your defense and allows Avi to get some time at DH.
  19. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:51 PM) I've been defending Flowers. I agree that Soto deserves more starts but I've definitely been defending Flowers when people go on about how much he sucks. What's your argument for him not sucking exactly?
  20. QUOTE (Jose Abreu @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:48 PM) Where are all the Flowers haters? One single really change your perception of him?
  21. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:44 PM) I dont think getting a RH reliever is a bad idea. More bullpen help is never bad. But a bat would be nice ontop of it. Not sure I get this. We're literally overflowing with RH relievers: Robertson Putnam Petricka Webb Albers Jones Why on earth would we trade for a RH reliever? We don't even have room for Jones right now.
  22. QUOTE (Soxfest @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:42 PM) Ship AR out while he is hot. Team ain't selling, so you best be ready for a playoff run.
  23. QUOTE (Baron @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 08:18 PM) I was watching Sports Talk on CSN. The guy they talked to from MLBN said he could see us buying and get a .....RH Reliever Lol...probably the deepest area on our team.
  24. QUOTE (Brian26 @ Jul 29, 2015 -> 07:12 PM) It's not? Have you seen the last five combined years of Dunn and LaRoche? Do their struggles have to do with switching leagues or not adjusting to DHing? I'm not sure why a batter would suddenly become unproductive simply by moving to the AL.
