Your Top 10 Off-season Additions (So Far!)
Chicago White Sox replied to Chicago White Sox's topic in Pale Hose Talk
Maldonado isn’t top 10? Who would you add in his absence? -
Any interesting call out for those of us unable to listen?
-
The Sox have added a league leading 11 players to their 40 man roster this off-season along with agreeing to notable minor league deals Brett Phillips and Chad Kuhl. Time to rank these additions by hype level…here are mine! The Top 10: Erick Fedde, RHP Mike Soroka, RHP Jared Shuster, LHP Nicky Lopez, IF Max Stassi, CA Shane Drohan, LHP Martin Maldonado, CA Braden Shewmake, IF Paul DeJong, IF Chris Flexin, RHP Just Missed: Chad Kuhl, RHP Tim Hill, LHP Brett Phillips, OF Chuckle Robinson, CA Mark Payton, OF

Sherman has a really good article on the Yankees situation (doesn’t sound like they love Snell or Montgomery, but know they need to add a frontline starter) with the following burb on Cease: “The White Sox are more likely to move Dylan Cease, but they see the soaring pitching contracts in free agency and the concurrent desperation among teams. So the “three premium prospects” ask was so high that, for example, the Braves decided to take the risk of acquiring the injury-bedeviled Chris Sale instead.” https://nypost.com/2024/01/04/sports/mlb-free-agency-yankees-may-have-to-settle-to-fill-out-rotation/

White Sox sign RHP Chad Kuhl to minor league deal
Chicago White Sox replied to Sleepy Harold's topic in Pale Hose Talk

Feinsand mentioned the Angels & Giants are potential landing points for Snell…still think he goes out west and the Yankees are being used as a boogeyman to drive up the price.
-
Ortiz and Norby are veterans?
-
Robert Murray also said he expects Cease to be dealt but it’s no longer a certainty, but thinks Eloy isn’t going anywhere (which isn’t much of a surprise).
-
No luck so far…unfortunately it seems like most New Yorkers are kind of assholes.
-
What you thinking? I guess I just don’t get the why for them when they desperately need some offense.
-
Listened to this podcast earlier today. I like the CHGO crew but I think Sean’s list was pretty off. Yankees were like 10th or 11th. The Red Sox & Giants were both pretty low. I still don’t get the Mariners fit, but the more the merrier.
-
I believe that Dystopia guy agreed to the trade on behalf of The Hangout…no backing out now!
-
I’m afraid you already missed the deal the two boards agreed upon
-
Again, ERA is heavily influenced by your ballpark, your defense, and even the ability of your bullpen to strand runners. Put these dudes on the 2023 White Sox and their ERAs would immediately sky rocket. Kremer’s xERA last year was 4.96, Irvin’s was 5.77, and Means was 4.73 (SSS obviously). Wells’ was 4.04 but with an 83% LOB rate which doesn’t seem sustainable. Nothing about this crew screams championship caliber rotation.
-
What’s wrong with Fangraphs? Because they don’t just use ERA to value the contributions of pitchers?
-
I don’t think Kremer is bad, but he’s not a #3 quality starter. His ERA may look good if you remove all his bad starts and put a great defense behind him but so would many others. I truly believe you guys are dancing with the devil with that rotation and that a big addition is needed. I know you guys don’t buy into Fangraphs’ projections, but there is a reason they have you guys ranked 25th in expected fWAR from your rotation.
-
He is my favorite Oriole ?
-
I’m already scouting their boards! Nothing more enjoyable than talking some ball with some good ole New Yorkers!
-
Are you guys actually going to stretch Hall out in the spring or will you put him in the bullpen right away? Seems like it’s the latter from everything I’ve read, but obviously you’d know better than me.
-
The Orioles rotation right now includes John Means, Dean Kramer, Cole Irvin, & Tyler Wells needing to provide 90 starts or so. That’s absolutely wild to me for a team that’s aiming to win 100 games again next year.
-
This is just plain dumb and quite frankly arrogant
-
Which is why the statement is absurd
-
I’ll be honest, upon further review, I actually believe the Yankees are a much better trade partner for us. I’d love to get Kjerstad but just not in love with the next tier of Orioles prospects (not suggesting they are bad, but I’m worried they are a bit overrated). Yankees can offer pitching in addition to a multi-faceted OF prospect. And if you really want a middle IF prospect, I’d much rather roll the dice on Arias or Lombard than go with a near 26 year old Ortiz or a one dimensional Norby. Probably better for both sides if we deal with the Yankees and let the Orioles give up Mayo+ for Miller or Woo.
-
This is an absolutely absurd statement
-
I think Getz will want two pieces that can help this year…maybe not by OD but before the end of the season. As much as I hate to place much faith in Jerry, I don’t think he’s going to let us truly rebuild. That means getting a couple major league pieces for Cease and augmenting those and our other prospects / core players with some B & C tier free agents next off-season.
