  1. Why is his trade value certainly less than it was four months ago? His velocity is back and his secondary numbers are all much improved vs. last year (and his K & BB rates are better than 2022). In this market, he’s probably worth the same if not more than he was during spring training. And that’s not intended to be a dig against Getz as a healthy, productive Cease was always going to be worth more come the deadline but required taking on some risk that may not have worth it to us.
  2. You mean they should axe Paddy?
  3. Fedde currently ranked 14th overall in fWAR amongst pitchers at 2.4. Given his cheap salary and extra year of control, he should be in demand by small and mid market teams. A 50 FV positional prospect plus a solid secondary piece should be very much achievable.
  4. Yeah, this idea that only Harold and Aly wanted to see Crochet used as a SP is hilarious. The vast majority of this board wanted to try him as a SP. I know several of us (myself included) wanted begin that conversion in the minors to allow for a more gradual buildup and to gain an extra year of control, but Hahn sticking with Crochet as a reliever was genuinely panned by this board.
  5. FWIW, this quote came from Jim Bowden based on two NL GMs with interest in Crochet.
  6. You’re undervaluing him greatly. He was a 5 win player last year and his wRC+ is nearly identical now. His hip injury has definitely impacted his defense some this year and he clearly isn’t giving his all given how god awful this team is. IMO, he’s easily a 5 win player if healthy and even if you want to discount his value some for that factor, you need to account for the fact the value of a win isn’t linear and guys capable of putting 5+ win seasons are worth substantially more than the standard $9/WAR assumption most people use.
  7. Right or wrong, Getz was certainly the snitch who got it Jerry to finally make a change.
  8. Wow, that would be awful. Norby’s K rate has skyrocketed this year and his D remains a big question mark. He’s certainly not a centerpiece and there are multiple guys in that system I’d prefer as a secondary piece.
  9. What happened to Balta? I just assumed he lost a ban bet to Ron.
  10. Yikes…just saw Jesse Chavez’s numbers.
  11. @caulfield12 - I got nothing but love for you, but you really need a thread title editor.
  12. Just not my type of people. Had I lived in the city and not the suburbs I may have felt differently, but we both missed Chicago and ultimately decided we needed to move back before my older kid was too old.
  13. Yup, nice town. Very glad to be back in the Chicago area. How long have you been in Elmhurst for?
  14. I moved to Nashville for three years post the Machado signing and moved back to the Chicago area about two years ago right before the “Sox to Nashville” rumors.
  15. Of the positional guys at #5 we are considering, who do you think might be willing to take ~$1.3M less than slot (if any)? It’s basically the difference between #5 & #8. Maybe Griffin?
  16. I live down the street from Ryan Sloan and would love to find a way to push him to #43 on an over-slot deal. Probably impossible without a massive underslot at #5, but damn would that be fun and exciting.
  17. Definition of SSS but a 24% K rate is actually something to get excited about
  18. His didn’t have this level of track record a month ago (which is still extremely small) and the innings limit is still a major concern. But all it takes is one team to feel they have a way to manage his innings and utilize him as a weapon come October to get a haul and rumors suggest that should happen given how bad the market it is. And to be clear, you were being ridiculed for this “magical innings limit” crap when the team has already come out and said he Crochet see a reduction in innings in the second half of the year.
  19. No doubt a 55 FV pitcher is not worth the same as 55 FV positional prospect, but I don’t think the value differential is that large. But look, I agree it’s not the sexiest of returns on paper, but if Thorpe can be a 3 win starter for the next six years that alone would be solid return. And there is still real upside in Iriarte & Zavala even if the results this year aren’t exactly stellar.
  20. I think the difference is Crochet looks like arguably the best pitcher in baseball right now and is even cheaper than Cease is with potentially three post-seasons to make a difference. I admit that I question how a team will keep him at this level between now and October, but the market for SP is going to be incredibly seller friendly and there won’t be any other starters available with this type of series changing ability. As long as teams feel there is a path to keep him strong until October, I think he will command a return much stronger than Cease’s.
  21. No doubt we have some arms, but outside of Schultz and maybe Iriarte and/or Taylor I think the group lacks true TOR ceiling. Most of these guys are probably #4 or #5 type starters on championship caliber teams with a couple I could see being #3’s if all goes to plan like Thorpe for example.
  22. They got a 55 FV, a 50 FV, a 45+ FV, and an interesting controllable reliever in return. It wasn’t an epic return as the centerpiece was much more floor than ceiling, but I think you and several others are greatly understating its quality.
  23. Actually it’s just how he handles a staff as his throwing, blocking, and framing are all negative value. They should just fire Grifol and make Maldonado the manager at this point.
  24. He has the lowest wRC+ in baseball history amongst a ~42k sample of positional players with over 120 plate appearances in a season.
