A Nick Madrigal Sized Sample
To be fair he was 77% for sprint speed last year, so I’d argue this is a function of sample size.

A Nick Madrigal Sized Sample
Offensively I see nothing to suggest he’ll ever hit more than a couple HRs in a season. I do think the rest of his game will improve over time. He seems to be way too much in his own head and/or trying to do too much. There is no chance he is this bad in the field and on the bases. How much better he’ll be remains to be seen though.

The real question is will Liam ever pitch again if we don’t run into another save situation? Let’s be up four plus heading into the 9th in all future games and find out!

Vaugh’s ability to get on-base is going to be a godsend for this offense. And Collins’ looks legit awesome.

What’s the alternative? Sacrifice offense for Leury or god forbid Hamilton’s defense? Vaughn is going to hit at some point and will add much needed OBP to an offense that can get very undisciplined at times. Zero reason to stop the experiment because of one ball that was barely out of his grasp three games into his OF career.

Great post. I’m as frustrated as anyone right now and have real concerns about this roster, but the hot takes here are starting to reach insane levels.

He was awful? I guess I wasn’t paying close enough attention, because I don’t remember that many bad things that happened with him behind the plate. Meanwhile, I can recall everyone of Madrigal’s fuckups. And I’m not suggesting Zack will ever be a good defensive catcher, but this board loves jumping on a single bad moment from any catcher not named James McCann and scream they are the worst catcher in baseball.

Because of one bad play?

Honestly, I think you have to give him a few more weeks bare minimum. If he’s still costing us extra outs come May 1st, then I’m not sure you have a choice but to send him down.

Lol...Madrigal batted .340 last year, but glad to hear you’ve written him off alongside Grandal & Keuchel. Eloy was certainly still in the OF plans when we drafted Madrigal, but please use continue to use hindsight to prove your points. And finally, are you actually suggesting the Sox should have drafted a HS outfielder from the Midwest to fill a near term major league need? Even the biggest Kelenic fans never dreamed he’d be this good this fast. Again, you continue operate in some sort of hindsight fantasyland.

This post is ridiculous. The first part is just plain dumb. The second part is so out of touch with reality given that like half our top 10 prospects at the time were OFs, including blue chippers in Eloy & Robert. We should have taken Kelenic, but not because of some need and entirely due to him being the highest ceiling prospect available at the time.
