Zero reason not to tender Doyle a contract. He’s a worth a gamble with a full offseason to work on changes. I’m not optimistic it will work, but he’s young enough and has the tools to get better. Why we acquired him at the deadline and thought we could fix him mid season is a different matter. And to give up a major league ready pitcher for him when we were in desperate need of SP is sort of mind boggling to me. Trading for Castillo will always remain a stupid & arrogant move. Getz may have cost himself GM of the Year with that move alone. Just so much bad about it as it made us worse this year, ate up significant payroll space next year, and cost us a prospect who could help us in 2028 and beyond. I hated the move at the time and hate it even moreso now given that Luis alone being so bad might be what costs us the division and/or a playoff spot. I was becoming a bit of a Chris defender before the deadline, but I can’t ignore how bad the deadline was for us. Getz may have read the room correctly that this team was going to regress hard at some point, but why make the Castillo trade then? Hold your top prospects, add some low impact pitching depth, and give Adams a shot. If it didn’t work out, at least you hadn’t weakened yourself going into the 2027. Just can’t believe we’re going to be stuck with broken ass Luis Castillo for another year at $22. What a fucking nightmare from where we were just two months ago.

I also wanted to sit Murakami, but couldn’t figure out a way. I also debated Peters vs. Sam for LF, but went with Tristin as he’s the hands-down better defender and has been quite good against LHP over the past month (SSS).
