James Beard is the definition of a project and it’s going to take some before we know what we have in him. High risk, high reward player and odds are it won’t work, but no reason to jump to conclusions just yet.

Narvaez had a very flukey offensive season in 2018 and was a terrible defensive catcher. If he was a desirable commodity, someone would have given up much more than Alex Colome. And no, his framing isn’t suddenly decent. He’s still a terrible defensive catcher all around. As for his offensive numbers this year, his quality of contact continues to suck. His flukey power numbers have started trending down significantly and right now he’s relying on an unsustainable BABIP (his xBA is 40 points high then his actual BA) to inflate his season totals. Dude has always had a strong eye at the plate which allows him to be a league average bat. The problem is that’s not very valuable when are a horrible defensive catcher.

Sheets’ turnaround has been incredible. 14 HRs more than doubles his output last year in an extremely friendly offensive park/league. Really wish they’d reward him with a promotion to Charlotte, but very unlikely at this point.

I go out of my way to “drag him through” because there is a misconception around here that he’s been a radically better player as the season progressed when it takes about five minutes looking at his stats to quickly deem that wrong. I’ve said multiple times I’m not writing him off as he’s young and AA is tough like you said, but the kid has had a really bad season and he’s probably a 40 FV type prospect at this point.

Rutherford’s problem isn’t his lack of power, it’s his shitty K & BB rates which his home park has no impact on. You really seem to take any criticism of him personally.

I mostly agree with your post, although I really don’t agree with the Ryan Sweeney comp. Ryan struck out like 11% of the time in AA (vs Blake’s 26%) and drew more walks. I also think Blake has much more raw power than Sweeney ever did, the problem is it doesn’t really translate to games.
