  1. Just keep trotting Tilson & Cordell out there and see if one of them flashes enough to be a long-term 4th OF. At this point there isn’t really much else to do. We’re going to add a RF in the offseason so this issue will go away soon enough.
  2. Isn’t he talking about Great Falls though (hence the Abbott comment)?
  3. For a true under the radar type, I’m going with Harvin Mendoza. The fact that everyone is suddenly screaming out for Abbott when Mendoza was the far better 1B prospect at the same age & level shows just how under the radar he is.
  4. Most of those guys were some of our bigger LatAm signings or recent HS draft picks (excluding the 2019 guys). Super interesting group of players.
  5. No offense, but this comment is completely absurd and proves how biased you are here.
  6. Pollack also took a $12M AAV. I’m expecting a 5/$90M deal for Ozuna which is 50% higher than what AJ got.
  7. I’ve already stated numerous times we are unlikely to land Rendon & Cole because there will be enough competition for those guys that pushes prices or years to point that we won’t like. However, we will have so much money to burn next offseason that the next tier of guys will be ours for the taking. The reason I’m confident of this is I don’t think anyone gets over a $100M deal next offseason outside of Rendon & Cole. That’s a space we’ve been successful in in the past in terms of landing actual free agents (Abreu, Dunn, Melky, Robertson).
  8. No, all else being equal front-loading is never better and in your example you simply rearranged a $300M contract by putting more in the early years. That’s the definition of destroying value.
  9. Zero chance anyone but Cole & Rendon get more than five years. There have been five free agents total over the past four offseason who have gotten more than five year deals. You honestly think that Bumgarner & Ozuna will join the club? That’s not how the current free agency environment works.
  10. They’re going to pay those guys $30M each next year in salary?
  11. No offense Jack, but you don’t understand how the time value of money works. Front loading is never better.
  12. Ok great, I mostly agree. But that issue won’t apply to every single free agent in this offseason’s class. Outside of Rendon & Cole, everyone will be fair game because the length of their contracts will be short.
  13. This is just stupid. They offered him one of the largest contracts of all time, but botched it at the end over the 10 year nonsense. Guess what guy, no one is going to get a 10 year contract this offseason which helps us greatly. The Sox will have money to buy multiple guys like Grandal, Ozuna, Wheeler, Bumgarner, who will all get three to five contracts max. You are being completely irrational here (cue Nashville jokes).
  14. Again, not wanting to guarantee money into years 9 & 10 has nothing to do with the fact they prepared to pay Machado $30M/year over the next eight seasons. Like are you really ignoring that?
  15. Not spending money to put a team over the top is not the same as having a bottom five payroll like some people are suggesting. In non rebuilding years, the Sox have always been league average or better. That would be ~$125M in 2019 and I personally think we go higher than that.
  16. And they were willing to add said player at $30M/year for the next eight seasons, so what is your point? The issue was with years nine & ten, which is stupid but a totally different issue. And while that same issue might prevent us from landing Rendon or Cole, pretty much every other free agent will be in play. The Sox will have more money to spend than any other team in baseball next offseason and will no longer have a “it’s a year too early” excuses to not spend it.
  17. Other than we have never rocked as small of a payroll like you are suggesting in a season we where going for it.
  18. No he doesn’t because that’s not at all what Hahn said over and over last season. Again, it’s one thing to be skeptical we land a major free agent, it’s somewhat totally different to just make up BA theories that run counter to things that were actually said. And if you want to cite history, when have we ever had this much finically flexibility? The answer is we haven’t so this is unprecedented territory.
  19. Sorry bro, but tolerating hatred is not an acceptable form of tolerance.
  20. You seriously can’t believe this nonsense right? This is all just an act? Because no one could possibly believe the guy who said “the money will be spent” and that we “unprecedented economic flexibility” is going to turn around 12 months later when we have a cheap and controllable promising young core in place and pull a complete 180. I get being skeptical of landing a whale, but this is just irrational thought.
  21. That’s like an $80M payroll which is less than this year.
