  1. In what world is Puig getting anything close to $20M/year?
  2. Wow, that would suck if that was our rotation next year. Who’s filling in for Rodon during the first half of the season?
  3. He K’s quite a bit because he’s over selective, so yeah I think with time he can improve his batting average by being a little bit more aggressive in certain situations just like Moncada.
  4. No, I decided to take an opportunity and move my family to Nashville because I decided I had to grow up and not put a baseball team above everything in my life. Had the Sox signed Machado, I may not have been as rational and pushed to stick around. This is the exact opposite of what I’m calling MoanForYoan out for.
  5. Balta hasn’t watched much White Sox baseball these past few years.
  6. Wait, MoanForYoan is Tom fucking Longo??
  7. Lol...why is that? We will have more money to spend than any team in baseball and will have a promising enough young core to finally push the chips into the table. If Hahn doesn’t successfully add multiple quality free agents next offseason, the fanbase will riot and I will move from Nashville to Vancouver so I don’t have to be within 500 miles of this team and continue my quest of living in every city that once held our AAA team. Until Hahn actually fails next offseason, there is zero reason not to give him the benefit of the doubt. Hell, we practically lucked into Machado with a below market offer. The next tier of guys (i.e everyone but Cole & Rendon) will certainly be attainable in this free agent environment.
  8. Thanks...it’s amazing some people actually can believe this.
  9. I haven’t been able to watch a lot of minor league games this year, but last year a ton of his K’s were with him looking. I’m not suggesting the hit tool is great or even good, but it’s easier to become a bit more aggressive in certain situations (like we’ve seen with Moncada this year) than it is to correct a pure swing & miss issue.
  10. Now you’re just being ridiculous. This offseason’s goal was whale or bust. Two of the moves you can’t stop citing where highly (or in Yonder’s case entirely) based on improving their chances of landing Machado. Rip them for the strategy all you like, but those moves have no bearing whatsoever on our go forward strategy for free agency. Adding Herrera wasn’t dumpster diving as he’s a highly paid, highly qualified setup man (whether the move works or not). McCann was a dumpster dive that has actually worked out. Nova was a bizarre acquisition (no idea how they thought his stuff would play up in the AL) but he wasn’t exactly a dumpster dive given his $9M salary. Santana was the one true dumpster dive that didn’t work out and I’m all for ripping it in hindsight, although even there Hahn had a get out of jail free card. I’m still not sure how you don’t get they simply didn’t want to commit long-term dollars for 30+ year old free agents a year before they felt they were ready to compete. I actually wish they were more aggressive, but alas they decided to be conservative given their assessment of where the team was at. That by no means suggest they will go cheap moving forward and rock sub $100M payrolls as you are suggesting. You are making giant, irrational leaps based on the anger you have over this past offseason. They likely won’t get Cole or Rendon, but “the money will be spent” on quality players this offseason and likely many of them. And when that happens, I hope you apologize to the rest of the board for bringing down its overall quality with your repetitive, nonstop whining.
  11. Can you please post their salaries again because there may be a poster or two who joined the site in the past 24 hours who hasn’t seen you reach the double digits yet in terms of mentioning this.
  12. Awesome. I’m actually fairly optimistic about the bat, but just beware that he is horrible against LHP and may ultimately end up a platoon guy. It will be interesting to see where they plan on playing him. Is Castillo hurt or will they finally cut bait on Alonso?
  13. Yeah, that would be helpful, but given his age I think they will let him retire on his own terms unfortunately. That being said, I think we have to operate under the assumption he’s still around. And if that’s the case, I don’t think we can count on Lopez next year to be anything but a #6 starter / bullpen arm. So I think we pretty much have to add two proven starters, one to help anchor the top and one to stabilize the bottom. Cole is obviously the guy we should go all out for, but until proven otherwise, I’m going to assume we won’t go the years it will take land a guy like him. To me, that leaves Wheeler as the #1 guy to go after. He’s the only guy other than Cole with TOR stuff that will only cost money next offseason. I think we could get him for something 4/$85 and that would be a quality signing IMO (I know many here will disagree). In addition to him, I’d go hard after Alex Wood on a short-term deal (which may be doable given his current status). The following rotation seems like one that would work next year: Giolito Wheeler Cease Kopech Wood* Lopez (bullpen) Dunning (AAA) Rodon (?)
  14. So outside of Giolito, the rotation this year has been a disaster. Rodon was unable to stay healthy once again and Lopez has managed to somehow get worse in year 3. The rest of the guys in the mix right now have been bad or are simply not major leaguer caliber. The good news is hope is on the way in terms of Cease & Kopech, two of the most talented right-handed pitching prospects in all of baseball. However, next year will be their first full seasons and Kopech will be returning from TJS. While they may ultimately join forces with Lucas to provide an elite top of the rotation, that likely won’t be next year and maybe not even 2021. The point is if we plan to compete next year (and we should) the rotation will likely need multiple reinforcements beyond just those two prospects. So what’s your plan for addressing the rotation between now and opening day 2020? I’ll be posting mine shortly.
  15. I’d argue he’s already passed Rutherford & Adolfo. If he keeps this up, he could definitely pass Basabe too.
  16. When WAR actually accounts for leverage we can talk about it being an effective tool for evaluating relievers. Also, reliever usage is a decision made by the manager, so Ricky only using Colome in select situations doesn’t mean he’s not capable of throwing more inning and theoretically having a higher WAR.
  17. Based on recent posts, it seems like you blame KW for all our bad moves and not the actual GM for some reason. Regardless, we definitely needed more discussion around Tatis so glad you started this beauty of thread!!
  18. Who wouldn’t do that deal? If he stays great, if he opts out then we get a pick if he leaves. Don’t see the Nats taking so little for him.
