Yeah incredible work here. Anxious to see the terms - will he get more guaranteed money than Eloy? Edit - I have my answer

Makes sense for Rockies but you open a hole in CF just to plug a non-existent hole at 3B. It'd make no sense. Kudos to Phil for creativity I guess.

Keuchel to Sox, 3 years, 55.55 million; 4th year team option

So maybe the holdup wasn't roster manipulation or the holidays but that the finer points of the deal were just being haggled. -
I don't really see Robert as a leadoff guy. He's fast and has power but he's unlikely to post a BB rate above 5% (based on his MiLB career) and he doesn't have the elite contact skills of Madrigal or (to a lesser degree) Anderson. I think ideally he will be a 5/6 hitter with considerable power but an OBP that hovers between .320 and .330. Madrigal would be ideal, but he has to hit first. If not, i'd prioritize on-base skills over speed. That might mean Moncada or even Grandal leading off.

Totally fine to see what you've got in Mazara. The bullpen is a stark area of need anyways.
-
Right. Also, unless Arenado suddenly reverts to a 3 WAR player, he's likely to still provide surplus value above his salary. He's really good.
-
Pretty bad, he's old and he was never a stellar defender. He can fake it, though. I guess it depends on what the money looks like. Engel is practically free, at least for one more season, and a good defender, which are the only points in his favor.
-
I mean, sure Engel sucks, but he's cheap and it's like 150 PA. I'd prefer an upgrade, obviously, but I don't really think Pillar is an upgrade. Maybe Hunter Pence?
-
Honestly, platooning Engel and using only against lefties / as a defensive replacement would be similar and cheaper to Pillar.

Sox Officially Sign Edwin Encarnacion (1YR/$12M), Kodi Medeiros DFA

This is interesting, thanks. Just at a cursory glance, the Sox had the 12th highest exit velocity but the 4th lowest launch angle. They hit the second fewest fly balls but the 5th MOST line drives. They are primed to do some damage, it only remains to see if they can do so. -
If he came here that would probably get cut in half. New Comiskey is an atrocious place to hit doubles.
-
Yes please. Walk the parrot on the south side.

I completely missed Luplow, never had heard of him, and it turns out he was better last year than any of the Sox outfielders. Post-hype guy, I guess? -
Projections for prospects don't mean much. It's very easy to see a wRC+ of something like 80-90 or even worse and he ends up like Lew Brinson.
-
I would wait on Robert, even at the cost of some millions. He has probably the most variance of outcomes of our high-end prospects.
-
High end outcome for Madrigal - Placido Polanco Middling outcome - Eckstein Low end outcome - lmao lets not think about that
-
Yeah Eck is a decent outcome for Madrigal. He has a very high floor but a low-ish ceiling. Still a guy you want to have around.
-
It wasn't very subtle...
-
Yeah i'm not that worried about getting McCann ABs. He cratered in the 2nd half and should really be limited to B/u catcher anyways. It'd be nice to trade him for an OF or RP but I don't think he should preclude an EE signing.

Most likely, although the trade market for starters is not exactly booming with great options. Side effect of more teams trying to compete. -
They can find ABs for Collins if he forces them. I know the Rays are cheap but they aren't going to shy from a 1-year deal if he can help the team, and EE definitely would. So I think it's down to us and them. Or the Rangers if they want to get wild with it.

This is good. Now if, God forbid, we get nothing from Rodon in 2020, we're still covered. Sign a couple pen guys and some OF depth and lets go. -
I very much doubt he will be back that late. Probably in May.
-
If it is the plan, then the other started must be a trade. Ryu is good but always hurt and Keuchel isn't that much better than Gio.
