team is toast

I like Ricky as a person and as a "personality manager" but the point of this whole thing is to WIN GAMES, and he failed both Carlos and the Sox, badly.

Before last night I would have said any talk of firing Renteria was hyperbolic. Putting Rodon in a position to fail like that, coming off an injury that cost him most of the season, is inexcusable. I'm sure i'm just repeating what's already been said, but it's so frustrating to see winnable games thrown away like that. Test Rodon, sure, but not in THAT spot.

Bummer and Rodon return, Detwiler and Not going to Cishek anymore DFAd

I think it's fine to cut bait on Detwiler before the bottom drops out. There's nothing very impressive about his history or overall body of work, the only reason he has an acceptable ERA/FIP this season is because his HR/9 is less than half what it was in 2019. The Sox obv. didn't view that as sustainable. Fry has been fine, he's just walked too many. Ruiz should be the next to go, since he also has never really been impressive in any way. Please be healthy, Evan. -
WOWZERS

Given how Cleveland and New York are playing, it's looking more likely we'll draw the Jays or Astros in the Wild Card round, as long as we keep the #1 seed.
-
My nickname for Colome is "Nails" because watching him pitch is like having your fingernails pulled out.
-
Sort of odd that in a tight division race, the bad blood in this game is not between the two teams, but between the Twins and the umpires.
-
Love to see the Bears beat the Lions 14-0
-
It'd be funny if they gave it to Trout when his teammate has been better. Jose has been very good but I don't expect him to win or anything. He should get some 3rd or 4th place votes.
-
Outside of Detroit, this is probably the most difficult stretch of the schedule outside of the first 15-20 games. The Reds, despite their record, have excellent SP, and the other 3 teams are just very good teams. No more games against the Pirates or Royals to run up the score.

2-1 vs Det 1-3 vs MN 2-1 vs Cin 2-2 vs Cle 1-2 vs Cubs (or 2-1) So either 9-8 or 8-9.
-
Given the teams played and the injuries, i'm gonna say 9-8. Possibly worse. Still a playoff team.
-
Jimmy Cordero specifically should buy Hahn a steak. Dude needs a few days off.
-
I don't think Mazara can be optioned, and i'm also pretty certain Vaughn can't play RF. I do think they'll play Engel more, though.
-
Probably for the best. Getting hammered for 2-3 innings a go isn't going to help him figure out whats wrong. I would guess we see him as a reliever at the end of the season.
-
Well, with any luck it'll just be a few days while they grow Moncada a new pair of legs and Mendick remembers how to hit.
-
He's pretty good. No data since 2018, but UZR has him at 6.3 for his career. So, not Arenado, but not Sano either. He gives it all back with his bat, but the defense is solid, at least for a few games.
-
Phelps for something like Flores or Archie Bradley for something slightly better Don't think we get a SP
-
I assume they'll trade for one or two relievers. Kinda thinking an SP upgrade doesn't happen.
-
Yeah Arias is definitely not Lindor, but I guess they figure they can use the Lindor money to plug some other holes.
-
I think it was the best deal. Immediate upgrade in the OF and some young, high-end talent behind that. Quantrill is actually an improvement from where Clevinger was at this year. He should do well for them. So they get younger and cheaper and don't skip out on competing. Edit - they also get away from the headache that Clevinger caused for them and any resulting clubhouse friction. Huge win for them IMO.
-
Terrible, obviously, because that's an awful deal. The Padres gave up a ton here, can't say I like it on their end.
-
I think an equivalent might be something like Cease / Collins / Engel for the MLB component. For the prospects, well, we don't really have a comparable farm system to SD.
