  1. Yup. Even if they get no one else, at least it should prevent important innings going to the Coveys of the world.
  2. The fascination with ex-Royals continues. I sure hope this is depth for Charlotte.
  3. I agree they can win without Vaughn. I would say that they probably won't win if they give away the most valuable assets in baseball (top-end pre arb talent) for average-to-bad players with less control.
  4. Nah it's worse, Price has so much negative value that it's more like Vaughn and Madrigal for nothing. fwiw I wouldn't do Vaughn for Beni either.
  5. Yeah, I don't think Gammons has been right about anything like this for years.
  6. I think they'll like him because he's good.
  7. Bad scouts, bad player evaluation, constrained by finances, constrained by the "family" dynamic that ownership has tried to sell as genuine but is actually just playing favorites, constrained by his need to appear lawyer-ly and aloof, and, past all that, just hindered by bad judgement. It's hardly ALL his fault, but i'm sure he'll end up taking the blame.
  8. The cost of starting pitching...is too damn high
  9. Even bringing back Nova would preferable to having Covey in the rotation.
  10. I'll eat Sale's shredded throwback jersey. It ain't happenin'
  11. absolutely not. Snell alone isn't going to make this team good enough, and we aren't in the position where trading long term assets for temporary ones is smart.
  12. He always says that though, even when no other moves are coming.
  13. Performance of the rest of the league, park factors.
  14. This is true, to extent that his "hard hit" % last year exceeded Moncada's. For all that growth, his wRC+ was...94. Below league average. It wasn't some BABIP fluke either, he just isn't good. He's swinging more and making less contact, which is worrying to say the least.
  15. He stinks and there aren't any underlying numbers that indicate he will get better. It's pretty clear that the team has changed directions after spending the last two years saying some shlock about "2020 vision" or whatever. Now the window starts in 2021. I guess the whole thing hinged on Wheeler signing.
  16. .844 OPS against RHP last year. Find him a platoon partner.
  17. It's not Wheeler, and its a big drop off, but he might be the best fit for this team of the remaining FAs.
  18. SoxMachine Josh outlined a doomsday scenario where the Yankees sign Cole, Dodgers re-sign Ryu, MadBum goes to the Angels and the Sox and Twins are left to compete for Keuchel.
  19. Good for Stras for getting paid but the pitching contracts so far are insane. Not looking good for the Sox in FA.
  20. Will be interesting to see where Rendon ends up now.
