QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 06:25 AM) I have to believe that there will be a shake up soon if things don't improve. After losing the first two in Texas, it's more than conceivable that the Sox could go 1-5 or 2-4 on this road trip. Going home worse than 10-15 (and I think 10-15 is optimistic) has to ruffle some feathers. I personally wouldn't mind seeing Ozzie fired. He was given too much freedom with this team and his rotating DH idea, and he has failed thus far. I really don't see it getting better unless KW steps in and makes some changes, even if that change is telling Ozzie to knock off the stupid decisions. there better be a shake up soon if they want to salvage any hope this season. i just dont know if KW can do enough to put us back in competition.

QUOTE (hogan873 @ Apr 29, 2010 -> 08:21 AM) Remember that the Sox are in the AL Central. I know the Twins are looking good, but history says a record just over .500 could win the division. you are right about history but i think this is the best twins team we have seen in a while. lirano looks like a big time ace and their offense is great. i think they will win over 90

QUOTE (bobryansson @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 07:54 PM) If he's really hurt, why's he pitching? It's not like the Sox are in a race and that, even at 75%, he's helping. As somebody posted earlier, he's too much of an investment... Even if it's a terrible investment, they still must write him the checks. I agree. It would make no sense to pitch a guy who was hurt that you have so much money invested in

QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) Let's not get too worked up over a bad outing here. I'm not. It has nothing to do with his bad starts. I just think his value was very high last year and he may have been looked at as a better pitcher than he really is. I still think he will be decent, just not a top of the rotation guy.

QUOTE (chisoxfan09 @ Apr 28, 2010 -> 02:21 PM) It is going to be a pretty clear objective of the Sox to pick up a bat. I think things are going to pick up in July. They just can't keep selling this anemic offense as a product we will buy. By July it is going to be too late. I am afraid that Hudson's value may have peaked last year.

QUOTE (greg775 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 03:08 PM) That's kind of unfair. The guy was young, young, young. My guess is you won't want to watch many games of any rookie starting pitcher for the Sox, because the guy will have major growing pains. Richard showed some smarts in copying Buehrle's style. actually no I love to watch rookies pitch and play. I just never really liked Richard at all, even if that was unfair. Moreover he really wasnt that young. In fact hes 19 months older than Danks.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 02:51 PM) You're not getting it. Things didn't click with Matt in SEA. Nice guy, great attitude, easy repeatable, stress free delivery and 60+ arm, no control. One session with Cooper, he's nails. Sometimes the change of scenery works wonders. All of the players I listed....VERY FEW posters were super upset they were leaving (Swisher, maybe...from a talent lost perspective, but he simply had to go)....all those guys had success after leaving for various reasons. Point is, KW is not always right. But 75% isn't bad. No you are not getting it. I agree that nobody was super upset those guys you listed were sent packing. However, these Mariners fans appear to be extremely glad Thornton was traded. But the real point is how good Matt became. None of those guys you mention became all that successful to make anyone eat their words that they were traded. In contrast, any Mariners fan would be a fool to not want Matt back.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 02:38 PM) But, to be fair, we were saying the same things when we jettisoned: Nick Swisher O-Cab Aardsma (although we seem to have his number as an M's closer) Rauch Masset MacDougal Juan Uribe Joe Crede Willie Harris ETC. Yes, Thornton turned out great. Just like the acquisition of Marte around 2002, both became arguably the best LH set-up guys in baseball for 2-3 years stretches w/ the White Sox. are you really comparing willie harris to matt thornton?? of all those guys you list, i think the only ones who we would consider regretting are aardsma and rauch.

I just came across this and thought it was hilarious how happy the Mariners fans were to get rid of Matt Thornton. I apologize if this was ever posted before. http://www.ussmariner.com/2006/03/20/bye-bye-matt-thornton/

QUOTE (chw42 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 12:56 PM) Any person who wants Richard back instead of Peavy is CRAZY. insane. very good chance richard is not even in our rotation right now. i never wanted to watch a game where he pitched.

QUOTE (Jenksy Cat @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 09:27 AM) But that argument is still sketchy. Of course PK/TCQ hit well when they are hitting HR's. Hitting HR's is usually an indicator of doing at least something right in the box, I wouldn't expect a .150 hitting TCQ to be hitting bombs left and right. It all comes down to this really: if you honestly believe Alexei, AJ, Pierre, TCQ, and Beckham are going to hit ~.200 for the season, then theres nothing to convince you otherwise. But if you realize that these guys are all healthy, not coming off the juice, and are not old (save for AJ) yet...they will eventually get around their career numbers in which case you just hope the 4 guys actually hitting remain hot. well now you can't have it both ways. if you think those guys are going to get hot and hit towards their career numbers you can't also expect the hot guys to keep hitting like they are. I still see Jones as a low average hitter but he might hit 30 bombs. I don't think he is a #3 hitter eventually. this weekend was nice to get some wins but lets not start sucking each other off just yet. this is still not a good offense

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 26, 2010 -> 11:13 AM) Didn't the Cubs try to do the same thing with Kerry Wood and they gave up trying? Kevin Appier, very ugly/violent motion, same thing? Eventually injuries ruined his career, the first half he was a borderline HOF track... HOF? now thats kinda silly

QUOTE (South Side Fireworks Man @ Apr 24, 2010 -> 10:18 AM) The sad thing about the whole situation is that if Jones continues to perform at this level for the rest of the season there's no way Boras is going to let him re-sign with the Sox. And if he reverts back to the Jones of the past few seasons, the Sox won't want to keep him (then again, if Ozzie falls in love with him he may be the starting CFer for the Sox next year even if he bats only .199). Either way, Jones is likely a one year rental, which is a shame because I'm really starting to like him. Boras didn't even want him signing with us this season. Jones called KW on his own and said he wanted to play for the Sox and would do so for $1M. Boras was pissed he went behind his back.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 02:52 PM) And look what we gave up for him? A legitmate DFA candidate. at least he was a guy we knew was suited for a defensive role. for some reason ozzie believes kotsay is a starter. would any other team in baseball even claim kotsay if we DFA'd him? certainly no one would give him 300-400 at bats.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 02:30 PM) No one is trading stuff for a guy who they think might be a legitimate DFA candidate, even if he has a solid season. we traded for kotsay

What a disaster this rotating DH NL lineup idea is...
dyuen replied to Steve9347's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (LittleHurt05 @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 11:41 AM) The rotating DH idea is not stupid and can work well. The problem is having Kotsay & the 2010 versions of Vizquel & Jones (still not sold he'll keep it up) in that position. what makes the idea stupid is the fact that they are rotating bench players in the DH spot. if they intended to rotate above average productive major league hitters in that spot, like DHs are supposed to be, that it would be fine. but the plan was to rest guys and rotate in non-starters. so when i say the idea is stupid i mean the whole concept as the white sox defined it. -

I was amazed how many people on this site bought into the stupid rotating DH idea in the off season and into Pierre being a productive player. I am glad to see you guys coming around. I still don't think the Peavy trade was bad though. It was a risk worth taking and KW didn't give up anybody I remotely cared about. -

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Apr 23, 2010 -> 12:50 AM) The only two guys on the entire roster that would net us a nice return are Danks and Beckham. The latter is obviously going nowhere. Danks? Could be interesting if they can't come to an agreement on a long-term deal. I see no upside in trading Danks. He is probably our best pitcher now and a good chance he gets even better. What possible return could we get that would make it a good deal?

QUOTE (JohnCangelosi @ Apr 22, 2010 -> 01:57 PM) That lineup makes me want to puke. honestly its pretty hard to make a lineup that wouldnt make you puke with the guys on this roster -
QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 03:58 PM) I'm actually in the south burbs now, so I'll have to drive in. dude i hope you did take your pants off because that would have been a lot more interesting than that game

QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 12:15 PM) With 50 degree game time temp, I will definetly be keeping the pants on. LOL i went to the sugar ray leonard marvin hagler fight by myself when i was in college. leonard was my favorite fighter and i couldnt find anyone to go with me because they didn't want to pay the money. i ended up getting a seat in the 3rd row because they had a single seat and sat next to some big time bookie and had a great time seeing the fight and talking the to guy about all the shady stuff he does.
-
QUOTE (dmbjeff @ Apr 21, 2010 -> 11:50 AM) I really want to go to the game tonight, but I have no one to go with. Has anyone ever gone by themselves? Is this socially acceptable? as long as you keep your pants on i think its ok. i went to an afternoon game once by myself. it was cool.

QUOTE (caulfield12 @ Apr 20, 2010 -> 09:43 PM) White Sox 4-1 on Monday and Wednesday. BTW, what was the attendance tonight? Just curious. I didn't see it in the box score at MLB.com. 19,260. Hmmmm..... i was there and it seemed like a lot less than that. out of the park and home in 15 minutes, might have been a record
