On this date in 1981....
I wish Veeck could have sold to Edward DeBartolo. But the AL owners blocked the sale. No threaten to leave Chicago, no Hawk as GM, no Sox only on pay TV. Oh, what could have been.

If you could play for 3 teams...
I would play for: White Sox - favourite team in favourite city. Padres - warm city, kind of low key. Toronto - big market but low key. Wouldn't play for: Tigers - hate them, and I loathe everything about the state of Michigan. Yankees - too much pressure, plus clean cut? GTFO. Red Sox - also too much pressure.

Hello to the new Soxtalk posters!
QUOTE (raBBit @ Jan 12, 2015 -> 11:11 AM) Not only that but plenty of outstanding posters were banned. If you go back to any of the big threads over the years like the almost Soriano trade in '06, the first Swisher trade, TCQ, etc. half of the first page of each thread will be comprised of guys who are now banned. Once I started posting here I pretty much stopped over there because it was such a toxic environment but I did post randomly saying Theo made great trades when moving both Garza and Samardzija/Hammel and a mod and I exchanged for about a full page and he was essentially just a Sox homer saying Theo sucks. No one else responded to our debate so it was just him and I going back and forth. Then he bans me for some stupid reason and once I was a banned a cluster of mods and long term posters come into bash me when I could no longer defend myself. The gang mentality and overzealous management ran that place into the ground while the management over here is laissez-faire and "only if you make me." The numbers really reflect that. Don't quote me on it, but in the most recent period SoxTalk users outpost WSI's by something like 8-1. Oh, for sure. Lots of good posters too.

Hello to the new Soxtalk posters!
QUOTE (ChiSox59 @ Jan 11, 2015 -> 09:32 PM) That's where I was for most of my message board career. Started lurking here in 2010 or so, joined in 12, and this has been home since. Don't post as much as I did at WSI, but I think that's mainly because the SOX have been painful to think about before and after the games the past few years. Really enjoy Soxtalk! Not to mention most of the good posters came here and another board. Quality went down.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 10:43 PM) Well clearly there's no shoe-in for the pennant, but "Picking the team that won the division 4 years in a row" is an easy pick that only people who really pay attention will question. Plus, it has a solid chance of being right anyway. Yeah, I guess that is true.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 9, 2015 -> 09:59 PM) Win the division a few years in a row and you get that kind of hype. I guess. I just don't think them, or really anyone, is a front runner for the division let alone a shoe in for the AL pennant.

I don't get all the Tigers hype.

WhiteSox and Emilio Bonifacio agree to one year, $4 million contr
Good stuff. Thank you for clarifying. My formula to get my wRC+ was v flawed, to say the least.

WhiteSox and Emilio Bonifacio agree to one year, $4 million contr
So, is this the platoon partner for Gillaspie then? Bonifacio has a career 97 wRC+ vs LHP Gillaspie has a career 124 wRC+ vs RHP That, assuming my math is right, combines for: 294/347/378 (725). A .725 OPS is in between Panda and McGehee. Maybe around a 106 wRC+?

I live in NW Ohio, so I live in Lions' territory. I am so glad they lost. Can't stand them.

2014-2015 NFL Football thread
QUOTE (Jenksismyb**** @ Dec 30, 2014 -> 12:05 PM) It would be awesome to get another NFL team in town. Force the Bears to actually run the organization competently or face a huge loss. Don't the Raiders need somewhere to go?

speaking of Hahn
Not to mention the Red Sox.

don't stop now boys
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Dec 25, 2014 -> 03:23 PM) Because it hasn't all been good. Can't argue that.

don't stop now boys
Why doesn't Hawk say "it's all good" anymore?

memories of the 2005 World Series
OP made a similar thread on another board I post at. Weird that a Cardinal fan would go through all this.

Are we really that good?
Line up still seems kind of top heavy. Eaton, Cabrera, Abreu, LaRoche are all locks for 100+ wRC+ After that it kind of tails off. Ramirez ended up with a 97, but that is with his hot start. Ditto Flowers (93 wRC+) Gillaspie (108 wRC+) lived and died with his BABIP last year. What can we expect from Garcia? Sanchez?

Why not Fales?

Hawk thinks that Hahn isn't done yet
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 15, 2014 -> 12:31 PM) Daryl Van Schouwen @CST_soxvan 15s16 seconds ago #WhiteSox broadcaster Ken Harrelson not interested in cutting back 2015 schedule. "That's out the window," Hawk says. http://bit.ly/12VEulx f***.

Get Out to Support This Team
I am trying to go to three from Toledo.

Worthless Thread of Self Indulgent Drival
I've heard rumour that people from Chicago don't like Chicago style Pizza; and its mostly tourists, and out-of-towners (like ME!) that eat it.

Anybody else having trouble supporting this team?
I have no trouble supporting them. I am just afraid they're going to underachieve.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
QUOTE (soxfan49 @ Dec 9, 2014 -> 05:03 PM) He actually came from the AL, technically. Yup. My pitchers haven remark was in reference to Oakland.

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
I want to be excited but I am a bit troubled by him moving from the NL, and a pitchers haven to the Cell....

Sox acquire Jeff Samardzija and Michael Ynoa
Sale deal was "reasonable".
