QUOTE (cws0591 @ Jan 31, 2011 -> 10:35 AM) I have not followed the Yankee situation very closely but heard rumblings of them going for this guy. With their desperation for two viable starters why did they not bite? Duchscherer is not very good but i think the O's are going to be pretty decent this year. this is unfortunate because they are in one strong division. I have a feeling that the yanks are going to make a big trade for pitching soon. I think that they are trying to wait to see what Pettitte is going to do, and when he turns them away for good, they will get desperate. Not only do they have to worry about the boston red cubs, they also have to worry about Toronto and Baltimore, both of whom have made big time improvements to their squads.

Missed opportunity?

I've changed my mind about 3 times in the last half hour about Milledge possibly being on the team... First I was like "hey why not give him a shot? Maybe being on and off of several teams is making him realize that being a in the Major Leagues is a priviledge, not a right, and clean up his act"... But then I stumbled across this... and I thought NO FREAKING WAY I want him in a White Sox uniform. But after watching the ENTIRE VIDEO, maybe this wasn't entirely his fault. He was gesturing to his own dugout after a run scoring, tie breaking double, and the other team took exception to it. (Hell, keep him from getting on base if that's how you feel!) Well the other team hit him with a pitch, and he stole 2nd base (which I think is always cool). Then, the opposing players, still unhappy about the situation and not satisfied with him being HBP, started the fight, not Milledge. I can't put too much blame on him for that. Still, I think I would pass. I wouldn't mind seeing him in the majors, just not with the White Sox. Excuse me for the rambling, I haven't had my coffee yet.

QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jan 28, 2011 -> 02:21 PM) Great pitcher for the Sox in the early 90s who fizzled out very quickly Bill Simas Traded for a one arm pitcher. Speaking of which.... Jim Abbott

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Jan 27, 2011 -> 02:44 PM) Wood/Buehrle was actually a debate. And I will admit that in 2003 I would've taken Wood over Buehrle in a second. There's really no way a non-biased person wouldn't. Thomas/Sosa was never a debate. If you take Frank's peak from '91-'97 and Sosa's peak from I guess '97-2003, Thomas still has a considerably higher OPS+. Imagine a roided up Frank? He would've trumped 2001-2004 with relative ease. A roided up Frank would have been hitting balls to Indiana. There wouldn't have been a helmet big enough for that already massive head. A shot back to the mound could have been fatal to a pitcher. You get the picture. I remember back in the day when I was enamored with all of the Sosa bombs just like everyone else. I've always been a Sox fan, but I've always liked Sosa too. I'll never forget listening to the radio one morning when a caller to the Score tried to convince the host that Sosa was so much better than Thomas. This was back in like 96-97 before everyone had the "internets" and stats were readily available. Well whoever the host was on the Score at the time DID have stats, and he made the poor Sosa fan look pretty foolish.
-
Plus the Sox would be okay if (heaven forbid) another starter went down for an extended period of time. The only thing I'd be worried about is KW then turning around and trading another starter away so the Sox would have to depend on Freddo for the entire season.
-
Why not? I say go ahead. You can never have too much pitching, can you? That way JFP can take is time coming back. Maybe more time will allow him to become the ace we all need him to be. I wonder how much Freddo will cost?

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 21, 2011 -> 07:53 AM) There is no "I believe" about it. If that star is 640 light years away, then we're observing things that happened 640 years ago. So, if the star is only 640 light years away, why would it form a black hole 1300 light years away? Someone suggested that Stephen Hawking book to me a while ago. Has anyone else read it? Is it that good? I might swing by Borders tonight and pick it up. I need more things to do while waiting on spring training.

Off topic, but I'm more worried about the defensive struggles of the Sox current starting right fielder. And who is going to be the back up outfielder now that Andruw Jones is gone? DeAza?

QUOTE (chw42 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 04:06 PM) It's Kenny's fault for giving Teahen that stupid contract extension. Man I hope Teahen gets traded. If not, he's going to be whipping boy#1 around here all next season.

QUOTE (justBLAZE @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 03:16 PM) Andruw Jones is now a Yankee making $2M for one year of play and $1.2M in performance bonuses. 2 mil + incentives? That's it? I wish the Sox could have come up with that to keep him around.

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Jan 20, 2011 -> 07:58 AM) Using B-R's numbers for what the people in Arb are likely to get, this puts the Twins total salary up over $110 million. I really REALLY hate the minnesota twins and their fans... Not an unhealthy hatred like I want something bad to happen to them, but I hope they never EVER win. They have surpassed my loathing for the red sox and the yankees. It felt good to see them go down in flames to the yankees AGAIN last year. Well maybe it is an unhealthy hatred, but so what. I hate those f***ers.

I'm hoping that enough people will defect to VZW to ease the traffic on AT&T's networks and make my life easier. I actually like AT&T wireless. Now AT&T Uverse is an entirely different story...

QUOTE (kjshoe04 @ Jan 12, 2011 -> 12:25 AM) Depends on if we're trading CQ or TCQ. CQ is tradeable. TCQ, or Q!perman is a baseball god and is therefore NOT tradeable.

Burlington Coat Factory has always done right by me. You just have to stay away from the cheap stuff and the zoot suits. A good tailor can make all the difference in the world. I've bought a suit from K&G Fashions before, but I have no idea how they are now. Mens Wearhouse and Bachrach in Woodfield Mall are good too, but a little more expensive. I always check Burlington first before going to either one of those.

Hell this was my avatar just last year before the Sox went on that tear through the NL. Yeah I can make some dumb ass posts too. -
OH MY GOD Michelle Bachmann is scary enough without being nude...

It's totally dependent on the type of job you do now vs. what you would be doing in your new role... time you have with the company... new responsibilities... the size of the promotion... etc.

QUOTE (IlliniKrush @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 01:38 PM) Because that's not fun radio. And when you come with steak dinner boom etc, you should get ripped. As he said, you are entitled to your opinion, but sometimes your opinion is wrong. So fun radio is Bernstein yelling things like YOU'RE AN IDIOT!!! YOU CALLED FOR THAT??? THAT IS A STUPID STATEMENT!!! STOP BEING STUPID!!! NO I'M RIGHT AND YOUR OPINION IS WRONG!!! at a caller?

QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 10:19 AM) Like I said earlier, they have taken all of the worst things about a message board, and managed to turn them into a radio show. That is what I appreciate about soxtalk. When I first got here, I said something that could have been taken as an insult, and was quickly put in the penalty box. I thought that the mods here were overly sensitive. But good god when I go to other message boards now I can't stay too long because I get tired of filtering through the insults and childish behavior to get to meaningful content. That was a lesson well learned about message boards.

QUOTE (StrangeSox @ Jan 5, 2011 -> 10:01 AM) Some opinions and comments are stupid and should be derided as such ("Steak dinner, BOOM!"), but Bernstein is just too much of an ass sometimes and really bull-headed. I'm sure some of the "meathead" callers are just trolling the show for reaction, though. What's wrong with simply disagreeing and moving on to the next caller? By keeping the caller on the line and insulting them like an 8 year old, you just prolong the conversation and give the caller even more time. Plus, if Bernstein didn't react that way I doubt he would have callers trolling the show for reactions.
