White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread
chetkincaid replied to Chisoxfn's topic in 2011 Season in Review
Yanks interested in bringing back Johnny Damon. Hmmm... could this mean that they are about to part with Curtis Granderson or Brett Gardner in a deal for Floyd or Jackson?? -
QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 08:29 PM) I'd be pissed if I was a Royals fan right now. They got no impact talent. Only guys who might be okay every day players for a Cy Young talent pitcher who the Royals didn't have to trade right now. I am actually VERY afraid of the Royals. Not really this coming year, but soon. People are saying that the Royals farm system is the best farm system that they've ever seen. We could soon have our very own version of the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL Central, and that worries the s*** outta me.

White Sox Off-Season Catch All Thread

QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 08:17 AM) Even if the Yankees have no confidence in the back end of their rotation right now, I don't think they'd get truly desperate until the season starts. They still have a legit ace at the top, Hughes may be young but he is on his way up, and they have a lot of money invested in Burnett. If you went into the season with CC, Burnett, Hughes, Nova, and then some combination of Mitre/Garcia as your starting rotation, you wouldn't think "This is the worst rotation I've ever seen". It might not be a "The Yankees will win 130 games" rotation, but if I asked "What's sillier, going into ST with that rotation or going into ST with Mark Kotsay as your DH", I'd clearly point at the 2nd option. They could well go into the season and see 3 of those guys blow up, then hang around the .500 mark for April and May. IF that happens, that's when they get desperate. I have to think that the moves that Boston made this year has them really uncomfortable with their starting pitching situation. They might be even more desperate than we know. I know that the Rays have lost several pieces, but there's a chance that the Yankees could miss the playoffs this coming season, and that won't sit well with them. I guess we'll have to wait until the season starts to see what happens. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 07:35 AM) After the first 2 months of last year where everyone and their grandmother underperformed, I'm not counting anything until I see the W's. We couldn't possibly start the season off as bad as we did last year. At least I hope we don't. I still think there's a possibility of more major moves coming before the season starts - ESPECIALLY if Peavy looks like he can contribute early in the season. I think KW might take advantage of the Yankees pitching deficiency and fleece them.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 09:39 PM) I have. They've got multiple threads over at nyyfans.com. I'd be open to dealing either for the right package. I wonder if the Yanks would be willing to give up Brett Gardner for Floyd. -
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 02:45 PM) If we stay in contention, the calculation is: I think my answer is...I trade him when either someone pays a ton for him, or when the Sox fall out of the race. QUOTE (nitetrain8601 @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 05:00 PM) Trade him at the deadline if you can end up getting a team to overpay and you're out of it. QUOTE (scotty22hotty @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 06:31 PM) If you trade him it'll be at the '12 trade deadline (assuming youre out of it) QUOTE (Dick Allen @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 06:47 PM) You don't have to trade him, unless you're planning on not winning, then trading him makes a lot of sense. QUOTE (Pale Sox @ Dec 20, 2010 -> 11:43 PM) Even if we're out of contention by the All-Star break, the reasons might be injury related and a 2012 push might still be realistic. Really, who knows. QUOTE (Paint it Black @ Dec 21, 2010 -> 06:56 AM) You trade him only if in the next two years the White Sox are not a contender. The window is now. What the hell? You guys act like we're not going to win the AL Central this year. WE'RE ALL IN. Didn't you get the memo?? Seriously though... I'd be on board with trading him if we could get a Greinke-like haul like the Royals did, but I really don't anticipate the Sox being far enough out of it to start dumping players... not for the next couple of years.

Josh Fields to the Pirates... Maybe he'll finally get his career going.
-
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Dec 19, 2010 -> 09:42 AM) This deal makes me smile. The Yankees lose, and the Cubs road gets harder. What's not to like? + we don't have to face him anymore + the twins don't get him (which is what I was afraid of) The Minnesota is going to be screwed if Pavano signs elsewhere. I love it.
-
I'm not a naysayer, I just want him to shut up and pitch. I want him to dominate and be the ace we need him to be. I want opposing teams to fear him when he comes to the mound. I want twins, yankees and red cub fans to be like "f***, PEAVY IS GOING TONIGHT" before important games down the stretch. I couldn't care less what he says.
-
QUOTE (3E8 @ Dec 17, 2010 -> 11:16 AM) Hawk will give praise to Twins when it is due (Mauer) and sometimes when it is not (Gomez), but he's not the problem. I feel like he wants to beat the Twins more than our players do, which is troubling. When Delmon hit AJ in the face, the person most upset was Hawk (rawlings in his earhole). The team just put their heads down and shook their heads when it happened, then we beaned Young weeks later in a meaningless game after the Twins had all but eliminated us. Really? They actually did hit Young? I don't even remember, but I sure as hell remember when Young hit AJ in the face and when PK was hit in the mouth, only to have Buehrle come in with his mid 80's fast ball to retaliate. Those are the things I'm talking about. If I were Ozzie. the very next twins batter would have been looking at a 100mph fastball high and tight from somebody. f*** "respecting" the twins. Respect them while you're getting ready for the playoffs and they're sitting at home in October.

Bench clearing brawl - started by Paul Konerko charging the mound.

QUOTE (JoeCoolMan24 @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 07:58 PM) This is what I get for stopping in the middle of studying to check Twitter. I have a final in 15 minutes, and I've only studied for about 20 minutes so far.... I checked soxtalk while studying for a satanic statistics test RIGHT AFTER DUNN WAS SIGNED. I know how you feel. Let's all hope this works out well. I'd hate if Crain turned out to be Linebrink 2.0. But how cool would it be if he was lights out - ESPECIALLY against the twins?
-
QUOTE (The Ginger Kid @ Dec 15, 2010 -> 03:45 PM) I might have a harder time learning to like that guy than i did AJ I don't know.... I think the guy could be a lot of fun
-
Cliff Lee left a LOT of money on the table. I wonder how those Yanks fans that supposedly insulted Lee's wife feel now...
-
battleyourtailoff.com sure was a fun place to lurk when the Twins were swept by the yanks a few months ago...

Multiple Sources: Sox actively shopping Quentin
chetkincaid replied to SoxFan1's topic in Pale Hose Talk
QUOTE (Brian @ Dec 10, 2010 -> 05:08 PM) Our outfield speed would be awesome. De Aza batting 9th wouldn't make me too mad. 2nd lead off guy. Yeah but how do you replace Quentin's bat? You would have TWO holes in the line up (De Aza and Morel). -
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 02:59 PM) I can tell you that there are multiple Chicago journalists and columnists who read, and even occasionally post, on SoxTalk. I'd be willing to bet you that at least a player or two have posted on here before too.

QUOTE (chw42 @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 02:39 PM) lol @ thread title. Poops? lol I thought I was seeing things... Ha Poops would be a nice nickname for Mr. Cowley.

QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 11:18 AM) What is a truly top of the line closer? Rivera and??? There's just not that many to begin with. We all knew from day 1 Viciedo wasn't going to be a 3B. With PK/Dunn in the fold for the next 3-4 years, there's no spot for him. Bullpen obviously needs some warm bodies. I wouldn't trade Viciedo for just any reliever, obviously. But a talent like Broxton, who I believe is only 25, would definitely be worth it. I just get the feeling that Viciedo is going to turn out to be like Miguel Cabrera or David Ortiz. You're right though... with Konerko and Dunn there's really no place for him. I just hope he doesn't come back to kill the Sox.

Crawford to Boston, $142 Million, 7 Years
chetkincaid replied to Leonard Washington's topic in The Diamond Club
QUOTE (iamshack @ Dec 9, 2010 -> 07:45 AM) Edit: That being said, I like this signing in the grand scheme of things. Keeps the Bos-NYY dynamic going full-bore, a big bulky contract that has the potential to hamstring Boston a bit down the line, for a player who refuses to play a premium defensive positiion and whose value is based on his ability to run. I'm not sure how Keith Law can predict just how many steps CC will or will not lose as he passes his prime, but hey, he knows everything. Oh, and CC's on my keeper fantasy team I'm not so sure about that. It seems like NYY and Boston's pockets are infinitely deep. It wouldn't surprise me if they added even more payroll. Does anyone know what the red cubs payroll is going to be this year if you added Adrian Gonzalez's and Carl Crawford's contracts to it? It's probably safe to assume that Gonzalez will get as much as Crawford. -
Crawford to Boston, $142 Million, 7 Years

f*** I really thought Crawford would go to the Angels... -
QUOTE (Wanne @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 04:44 PM) I really don't get the Pierre bashing by some. Is the guy an all-star or anything...no. But once he got going he was pretty effective and when he was on base he was a huge distraction on the bases. I'd welcome Pierre back as out starting LF in a heartbeat. It must be because of the somewhat slow start that he last year, coupled with the fact that he essentially replaced Scotty 2 Hotty Podsednik, who was a fan favorite. But in my eyes, Pierre did alright last year. Sure, he's not Rickey Henderson, but then again who else was out there at the time KW got him?
-
QUOTE (Lillian @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 02:40 PM) Wouldn't you rather have Quentin's bat, rather than Pierre's? I don't know about that. Who would lead off? Who would steal bases? Pierre might not as good as he used to be defensively, but I think he's still way better than Quentin. Plus we already have enough slowness in the lineup with Dunn and SLOWnerko. It would be like 06-08 again when everybody was talking about how much we need speed.
-
QUOTE (Kenny Hates Prospects @ Dec 8, 2010 -> 02:06 PM) Going off my above trade proposal, here's my ideal offseason completed. Trade Viciedo + Quentin (about $6M) to the Rays for Garza (about $6M) Trade Buehrle + Teahen ($18.75M) to the Mets for Beltran + Parnell ($18.95M) This has us below $130M in payroll. We could conceivably be the best team in baseball. Does Buehrle have a no trade clause? Do you think Buehrle would accept a trade to New York - especially when it looks like the White Sox have a better chance at winning?
