  1. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Nov 11, 2010 -> 10:20 AM) He's had some very good years, some ok years, and some iffy years, depending on how healthy he is and where he gets moved around to. In general, if you buy Fangraphs, if you put him at a position and keep him there the whole year, he'll be somewhat above average. That includes CF, although the last time he spent a lot of time in CF was a couple years ago. I had kind of forgotten about De Jesus after he broke his thumb last year. If he's good defensively, he would have looked very good in the Sox outfield next year though. He doesn't have a lot of power, but I like his avg. I wonder if KW tried to make a play for him. KW is probably working behind the scenes trying to acquire Matt Kemp now.
  2. QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 06:04 PM) Excellent move for the A's. An already stellar defense gets better. Just don't be like the Mariners and forget scoring runs is a part of winning baseball games. How good is DeJesus in the field? Last year I thought I read somewhere that he wasn't that good defensively.
  3. Edwin Freaking Jackson. Daniel Hudson = Brandon McCarthy
  4. What a sad situation. Some people just can't live within their means. I wonder how much his salary was. Probably much more than most of ours....
  5. QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 03:52 PM) I'm glad I'm not the only one. I hate opening up a thread only to see: Well, I think this team is looking for some pitching, so we can send them ____ for ____ and stick him in RF. Then, we would free up money to make a play for a big name at 1B. Sign ____ off of the screap heap for middle relief, etc. I just don't care to see so many hypotheticals that have no basis in actual news. You're not referring to my trade Floyd/Danks to another team for top of the line prospects, then add Viciedo to that bunch to flip to the Indians for Shin Soo Choo idea, are you? Ha ha I kill me.
  6. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Nov 9, 2010 -> 06:09 PM) I for one am glad that Kotsay did not mention Kotsay by name when he brought up left handed bats. This made me lol at work
  7. QUOTE (pittshoganerkoff @ Nov 10, 2010 -> 08:33 AM) Mods, feel free to merge this thread with another, but I couldn't decide where to put it. Anyway, the MLBTR writers predicted where the top 50 free agents will go. Not surprisingly the Yankees and Angels are mentioned numerous times for the top few. The Sox are mentioned only twice. Three of the five writers predict Konerko and Damon. I suppose I'd be okay with that, but it doesn't plug every hole. I'd love to see KW make a splash and grab Crawford or Dunn or one of top 5. I read that too and the Sox aren't getting any love. I'm not even going to get my hopes up for a big splash like Crawford, Werth, Dunn, etc. because I'll just be pissed when I see them sign with other teams. The Derrek Lee thing from another thread really has me intrigued though. I wouldn't mind picking him up IF Paulie decides to leave. He might be in line for an incredible bounce back season. My main concern though is right field. I really like Carlos Quentin, but I'm starting to wonder if he'll ever be anything close to the 2008 TCQ again.
  8. Add me to the Derrek Lee camp. Not because I want him to replace Paulie, it just seems like the smart move if Paulie doesn't come back.
  9. QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 02:41 PM) Which is all we do on this site during the offseason. I actually like that the author here took a different approach - ignore rumors and try to analyze practicalities. Sure its speculation, but it actually added something to the discussion. Yeah you're right. I agree. Being a baseball fan, speculating about future White Sox moves is better than reading about and listening to people talk about the Bears all day. I really think Konerko resigns with the Sox. I can't imagine heading into next year depending on Viciedo at 1B, and I'm not going to get my hopes up again for Adrian Gonzalez.
  10. SPEC-U-LA-TION!!! Clap clap, clapclapclap... SPEC-U-LA-TION!!! Clap clap, clapclapclap...
  11. QUOTE (beautox @ Nov 8, 2010 -> 07:02 AM) I know this has been discussed a ton over the past few years; but with A-Gons pending free agency and the fact we could really use an established LH 1B, i would love to see KW use Escobar's helium rise in the AFL coupled with Viciedo's modest showing in the show and something like a throw in like Danks 2.0 and see if the padres would be interested. In addition to that i wonder if as previously discussed on these boards Sizemore or Upton might be had for a potential injury riddled swap with Quentin. Sizemore has 16m remaining on his contract through '12. Move Pierre and Teahen while paying most if not all of their combined salary for some project arms ala thornton and threets, maybe someone like Cesar Ramos of San Diego. try to find a potential non tender trade target partner for jenks Sign one of Crawford or Werth and one of Manny or Vlad, call it an off season. re-up with andruw. Ideal opening day line up L Crawford LF R Beckham 2B L Sizemore RF/CF R Rios CF/RF L A-Gon 1B R Manny/Vlad DH R Ramirez SS L AJ R Morel Wow. adding Carl Crawford, Adrian Gonzalez, and Grady Sizemore? Yeah, I'd call that an offseason alright...
  12. Man I don't feel good at all about the Peavy situation. I'm in the mindset that anything we get from him would be a bonus. I don't mean to start another Edwin Jackson v. Dan Hudson flame fest, but the Peavy injury is another reason I feel good about having another experienced, hard throwing starter (Jackson) in a White Sox uniform next year.
  13. QUOTE (bucket-of-suck @ Nov 3, 2010 -> 08:52 AM) He ranked 5th among MLB outfielders (min. 400 PAs) in on base percentage (.389) and tenth in OPS (.848). The guy is an OBP machine with power. This is the kind of player the Sox need more of: Quality at-bats with actual production. The Nationals' left-fielder has posted a .363 wOBA in each of the last five seasons, an accomplishment that none of Carl Crawford, Jason Bay, Andre Ethier, Corey Hart, Jayson Werth and Vladimir Guerrero can boast. In fact, with all the press Vlad has gotten for his resurgence this season, his 2010 .360 wOBA would represent Willingham's worst season since 2005, when he had 28 PA. After making $4.6million in 2010, he would be due for a raise to $6-7million in his last season of arbitration and would make more sense for the Sox at that level than CQ. He also projects as a Type A free agent after 2011, so there would be quality compensation if he walks. How is he on defense?
  14. QUOTE (Swingandalongonetoleft @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 10:45 AM) Wilson is funny as hell. I heard Jim Rome interviewing him towards the end of the NLCS. Pure. Hearing him talk about destroying souls on the mound was great stuff. Hearing him compare the Giants infield/outfield to specific zoo animals was also great. The guy is a nutcase But I like that in a closer.
  15. QUOTE (RockRaines @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 10:04 AM) I liked seeing the entire infield celebrating last night. Huff, Sanchez, Uribe and Renteria. Who would have thought Uribe would be the most successful player out of the bunch. Freddy Sanchez was basically doomed to a lifetime of failure when he was on the Pirates, and now has a ring. I believe two ex-cubs got rings as well correct? DeRosa and Fontenot? I know that Shawon Dunston works for the Giants. I remember in game 6 of the 2002 World Series when the Giants were only a few outs away from winning it. Dunston was celebrating finally getting a ring after all those years with the Cubs. Then the bottom fell out and the Angels came back and won.
  16. QUOTE (GoSox05 @ Nov 2, 2010 -> 09:26 AM) Anyone see any interviews with Brian Wilson after they won? I can't tell if he is a total asshole or just messing around. Kinda of a weird dude. Dude... Brian Wilson is hil-FREAKING-larious!!! That beard thing is just an act... He LOOKS like a total asshole, but he's like a kid. It's all an act. Google "Brian Wilson - Chris Rose The Machine. They have a history.
  17. It's good to see San Fran and the former Sox win it. I was so glad texas went down in flames. I wish Mark Cuban would have won that bid.
  18. Lincecum making the rangers look stupid through 4...
  19. QUOTE (MexSoxFan#1 @ Nov 1, 2010 -> 11:55 AM) Would you rather have the team with the best regular season winning percentage win the championship outright ala soccer leagues in Europe rather than the playoffs? Not me. Me, I don't envy the Twins with their postseason failures... I don't envy the twins either. They can have all of their meaningless playoff apperances. Nothing they've done these last decade will top 2005.
  20. This World Series is turning out to be SWEET! Well, as sweet as it could be without the White Sox that is. Let's go Giants.
  21. QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2010 -> 07:17 PM) Hopefully Obama was taking notes on how to throw out a first pitch... I hope that President Obama doesn't take notes on ANYTHING dubya does. But that's just me. Let's go Giants.
  22. I'd like to see him traded for someone who can hit AND play some defense. Either that or let him learn some plate discipline in AAA. Then I hope it gets to the point where he's so good that it would be damn near impossible to keep him in Charlotte.
