  1. Bump. Now that Peavy is gone, maybe this isn't such a bad idea.
  2. QUOTE (PlunketChris @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 12:10 PM) I haven't heard or seen anything on this, but The Phillies might be one of few teams looking to solidify their closer role or atleast secure a back up plan. Lidge can't be depended on and when it wasn't Lidge, they were parading Jose Contreras out there. Putz or Jenks might be an appealing piece to them if they're made available. I think Bobby Jenks would be a great addition to the Phils.
  3. I wish we could flip Jenks for some pitching prospects to send to Arizona to facilitate the 3 team trade and land us Dunn. Let Putz be the closer and bring up Sale and/or Torres. If we win it all this year with Putz closing, he'll be more likely to re sign here in the off season.
  4. QUOTE (mmmmmbeeer @ Jul 26, 2010 -> 09:17 AM) Stone saying that makes me nervous......this isn't the year to go all in. If it's not Dunn or Fielder, I don't think you have anything to worry about. I bet Dunn signs a contract extension with the Nats this week. And Fielder is too expensive. I don't think KW is going to give the Brewers what they want for him.
  5. Haren- Angels (Who the hell saw that coming?) Oswalt- Cardinals Lilly- Twins Greinke- Yankees in a deal for Joba, Montero, others. If they deal Greinke to the hated Yanks, Royals fans will burn Kaufmann Stadium down Laroche Bullpen arm or bench player - White Sox Aramis Ramirez - Tigers Derrick Lee - Rangers Fixed
  6. Meh... It's just one of those days. We can't will every game. A loss like this doesn't bother me half as much as the 2 games Jenks blew last week.
  7. They're talking about it right now on the score. I don't think you'd have too many White Sox fans not agreeing to that trade. It does seem a little unrealistic, but who knows what KW has up under his sleeve.
  8. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 22, 2010 -> 01:32 AM) God no unless the asking price starts and ends at Torres. Isn't he right handed? .238 BA? I wouldn't even give them Torres. Maybe Jeff Marquez is all they would get.
  9. Man this is why I love KW as our GM. That guy don't mess around. He's crazy. If he pulls off Fielder or Dunn and everybody keeps up with the hot bats, this line up is going to be scary.
  10. QUOTE (chisox2334 @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 08:25 AM) wasn't cust desginated for assignment from mets? If we didn't want him then why would we now? I believe he was DFAed earlier in the year, then brought back to the A's after spending time in the minors.
  11. QUOTE (Vance Law @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 03:02 AM) Why the f*** not? He beats the pants off Kotsay as a hitter. .385 OBP so far. The A's are going nowhere and didn't even have him on the team to start the year (didn't come up until May 15). He's put up a 1.036 OPS in July. It seems he may even be a better outfielder than Quentin at this point. Think of the damage he could do at Sox Park compared to in Oakland. What do you think he'd cost? Can Cust play back up 1B? You have to make room for him, so who would go? If you DFA Jones, then there goes that stellar late game outfield defense we were talking about in another thread. If you DFA Kotsay (yeah right), then who is going to be the back up 1B? I guess Viciedo could be, but he sure didn't look all that comfortable when I saw him play there a few games ago. I know he made me uncomfortable.
  12. I wonder if Werth has made a conscious effort to change his swing this year. He only has 13 HR this year (compared to 36 at the end of last year), but it looks like he'll have a lot more doubles, and his batting average is 15 points higher.
  13. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 08:01 AM) And if that is indeed the case, would his offense suffer enough to justify the downgrade he is defensively when he plays instead of Jones or Kotsay? I don't know, but there's a good chance he becomes disgruntled if he's made to be the full time DH at such a young age. That would greatly diminish his worth, wouldn't it? And he hasn't had a chance to sign a big contract yet.
  14. QUOTE (iamshack @ Jul 21, 2010 -> 07:56 AM) The question I inevitably ask every time this topic comes up is will there be a difference in Q's offensive performance based on whether he plays the field or not? We all know he is a horrendous OF. The question is not whether he should be playing the field, but rather, would there be an affect on his offense if he was not playing the field, and if so, what kind? I've heard it said that Quentin would have too much time to think about bad at bats sitting in the dugout while DHing.
  15. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Jul 20, 2010 -> 11:28 AM) But seriously, I think the Tigers are going to go hard after Aramis Ramirez. His $16 mill option in 2012 becomes guaranteed if he picks up his 2011 $14.6 mill player option after he is traded, so the Tigers would be filling a hole on the left side of their infield for 2 and a half years, and they can afford to make that move too with as much money as they have coming off their payroll at the end of the year. Then what would they do with Brandon Inge when he gets back?
  16. QUOTE (chw42 @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 02:28 PM) It's the Royals, no. With Dayton Moore at the helm, he'll find ways to f*** s*** up. You know, I bet the Yanks and the Red Sox thought the same thing about the Rays before 2008 and look what happened. For all we know, the Royals could wack Dayton Moore and hire some hot new GM (like Rick Hahn) to work with that deep farm system, and BAM! We'd have a team similar to the Rays right in the AL Central. That scares the hell out of me.
  17. QUOTE (spiderman @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 10:38 AM) D.DeJesus News: Link They can pick up the option, hold on to DeJesus and hope their farm system – quickly becoming the best in all of baseball – starts spitting out enough next year to patch together a contender. Is it just me or did this scare the hell out of anyone else??
  18. QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Jul 19, 2010 -> 01:01 AM) Greg has gotten me amped by saying Soria/DeJesus to Sox was discussed. I'd like to have more power from the left side, but I'd take DeJesus right now in a heartbeat. I wonder how Quentin would react to being made a full time DH. Something tells me that he wouldn't be too happy.
  19. Okay so serious question... Should Jenks be used as trade bait? I bet he would thrive in the NL. Should be be flipped to an NL contender for some prospects that could add to a package for a trade to get a LH bat or another starting pitcher?
  20. Man I was just thinking about how Jenks had finally turned it around too.
  21. I think I'm going to just turn this off right now. It's not worth ruining my entire weekend...
