Ventura "noogie" won't be shown in Arlington in 2012
QUOTE (Quinarvy @ Nov 3, 2011 -> 09:56 AM) Hypothetical: What if it had been Frank that charged the mound? Or this guy... Too bad he was still with the Indians at the time. Nolan Ryan was overrated anyway. People don't talk about how he got his ass kicked by Dave Winfield. They NEVER show clips of that in Arlington.

2012 Cubs thread
Well they've said that they won't compete next year. It's like they're taking a step back to take more steps forward. Epstein will rip up the organization from top to bottom and build it to his liking. I'm just not convinced he has any better shot than any other GM at winning it all. Now Andrew Friedman would have been different. That dude is money.

2012 Cubs thread
QUOTE (Rowand44 @ Nov 2, 2011 -> 06:15 PM) That's really an absurd assumption. That's a thoughtless and empty ass reply. Try backing it up.

2012 Cubs thread
How many other GMs could have performed the "miracles" that Epstein performed with that payroll? I bet more than half of them.

2012 Cubs thread
Eh... I'm not sold on Theo Epstein and his buddies like everyone else. He has to show me what he can do without having the 2nd biggest payroll in the MLB every season. And it's not like I'm a Cub hater. I just don't see the fascination with this guy. I say that KW will win another ring with the White Sox before Epstein ever wins one on the northside.

Sox officially hire coaches
QUOTE (Jordan4life @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 01:37 PM) I want this word removed from the English language. Or at the very least it should be filtered. Seconded.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 12:11 PM) How? I'm guessing that the required waiting period is shorter for managers, but still how the hell would La Russa be eligible when both Cox and Torre last managed in 2010? Either way, this does not bode well for Frank's chances of getting inducted on the first ballot (Maddux and Glavine being media darlings and all of those legendary managers). If Frank Thomas is not a first ballot Hall of Famer, then they should just shut the freaking place down.

Sox officially hire coaches
I'm taking the wait and see approach, but I sure would have felt a lot better if there was an experienced guy sitting on the bench next to Ventura. And who else beside Coop speaks fluent Spanish? Man if this doesn't go right, US Cellular field is going to be empty an awful lot next year.

Buehrle, Castro, Omar, Pierre all file for FA
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 31, 2011 -> 08:15 AM) Kevin_Goldstein Kevin Goldstein Speaking of Venezuela. Lastings Milledge went 2-for-4 today, and up to .315. Some rumors that he'll be going to Japan next year. I guess he's tired of not being given an opportunity. Can't say I blame him.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
"ALL IN" is dead!!! There's no more mention of ALL IN on whitesox.com. Finally they've killed it.

Potential free agents?
I'm telling you that KW has at least one more "WTF WAS THAT" move up his sleeve this offseason.

Jackson & Teahen to TOR for Frasor & Stewart (RHP)

Bacardi at the Park taxpayer funded
So most of this is funded by taxes from hotels? And taxpayers aren't paying for any of it? How much exactly is "the bulk"?

Six short years ago...
QUOTE (Milkman delivers @ Oct 26, 2011 -> 12:56 PM) I'll be watching the Sox Pride DVD later. Got the entire series on DVD. Best gift that I ever got from a girl. Does everyone remember where they were when Uribe made the throw to end it? Man, I was on Division outside a bar. I remember everyone looking around in stunned disbelief. It seemed like everyone was thinking "Did the Chicago White Sox really just win the World Series"? It was almost surreal... like a dream. It took awhile, but everyone finally warmed up to the fact that the Sox won it all and it got pretty crazy on Division. Chicks were flashing everyone.

Frank Thomas: I could be the White Sox hitting coach.
I understand that Frank Thomas is a fan favorite. I love the big guy. But remember it was just a few years ago when Frank and KW were in to it BAD and KW was on TV yelling "HE BETTER STAY OUT OF WHITE SOX BUSINESS!!" Now I know that the hatchet has been buried so to speak and that these two are cordial to one another, but I wouldn't push it, and I don't think KW would either. I'd be shocked if Frank Thomas was hired to be the hitting coach.

Reinsdorf’s U.S. Cellular Field Lease In Jeopardy?
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 25, 2011 -> 12:28 PM) Do you know anything about running a business? I ask because you don't seem to see the full picture. Tickets to the Sox are on the lower end of the scale in MLB, far lower than across town in the same city. Hmmm... are you sure? I really don't think White Sox tickets are all that inexpensive.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (Springfield SoxFan @ Oct 23, 2011 -> 03:34 PM) I don't see JR letting that happen, if the money is the same and Buehrle goes to Florida then it is on him...........I think Buehrle stays or there would have been more trade chatter this year. Buehrle probably wants to go to the NL. His career would be extended if he went to Florida.

So when can we start focusing on the 2012 Sox?
Ha... like news of the Chicago White Sox hiring an inexperienced bench coach and hitting coach for an inexperienced manager's staff is really going to take away attention from the World Series. That's a silly rule. I could see if they were talking about Ozzie's move during the World Series, but a bench and hitting coach? Silly. Does anyone besides us rabid White Sox fans even care?

Keep/Trade/See Ya Thread
QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 12:57 PM) Yeah, and since neither of them are free agents...and I can't think of really anyone in the league I'd count as comparable to Justin Upton who is a free agent...I don't know how that one happens. What I'm saying is that I don't think that KW is done with this roster. It might not be Bourn or Upton, but I know KW likes those athletic types and he's probably not satisfied with the roster now.

Worst Farm System in Baseball
QUOTE (NorthSideSox72 @ Oct 20, 2011 -> 08:14 AM) After we trade TCQ, Danks/Floyd and Thornton? Yeah probably. Plus the numbres 3 and 5 prospects from FLA we already got for Ozzie. By the way, Kalapse brought up the idea that we should try to find a system we feel is worse and make a comparison. I can't honestly say I know a lot of other systems in any depth, but when we were trading Ozzie, I did look at multiple analyses of the Marlins' system. And I am pretty convinced the Sox system is at least better than that one. Just looking at quality level at various points in multiple prospect lists, random sampling of players, the Sox system looks better to me. And I totally agree with those talking about the spending problem. That is the biggest issue, is being so unwilling to properly invest in the draft and in the international market. One other thing to think about... evaluating drafts is a little like evaluating the President. It takes a few years after, to really know how it went. Example? In 2008 and 2009, the Sox system was similarly derided as being one of the worst in baseball. But the following players entered the Sox system (draft, trade or NDFA) in 2008: Gordon Beckham (drafted, MLB starter) Brent Morel (drafted, MLB starter) Dan Hudson (drafted, MLB starter) Charlie Leesman (drafted, talked about as being on the cusp of MLB) Tyler Kuhn (drafted, possible Sox utility man in 2012) Brandon Short (drafted, Playing AFL, borderline MLB talent) Terry Doyle (drafted, playing AFL, getting attention) Tyler Flowers (via trade) Brent Lillibridge (via trade) Dan Remenowsky (NDFA pickup, now on the cusp) That's pretty impressive for one org in one year, at three years later. Three guys starting in the majors, two more playing in the majors, and a handful of other guys who have a good shot to make it. And I don't think it was recognized just how impressive it was, until at least 2010. Now if the Sox can just invest in the system a little more, it seems like maybe the org has the right development staff in place down there. This post makes me feel a lot better about the future of the Sox.

Keep/Trade/See Ya Thread
I still say that KW is going to shock us all again - just like he did with Robin Ventura. I wouldn't be surprised if he lands a Michael Bourn or Justin Upton or a player like that this winter.

2011-12 White Sox off season catch all thread
QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) This is where we disagree. Ozzie "quit" cause he couldn't get the extension. You read that last Cowley story where he addressed the quitting issue with that colorful obscene quote. Cmon. We are all smart people here (resist the temptation to rip me here). We know KW won the battle. Ozzie "quit?" Cmon. QUOTE (greg775 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 10:34 PM) If the Marlins' offer hadn't been looming, he'd have been replaced or bought out or whatever you want to call it. How do you know this?

Rumor: Thome as hitting coach
QUOTE (southsider2k5 @ Oct 18, 2011 -> 01:36 PM) Ugh. Please no. Just hire Manto or Laker and get it over with. This. Thome doesn't seem all that scientific. Can you imagine him trying to help fix Beckham? Please no.
