  1. I must say I expected much better out of this thread. We've had like a 5 page prorgession in maybe the last 3 months. I've been trying to settle (read: find a job) in DC for the last few months so I haven't had much time here but I hereby announce my candidacy for for drunkest soxtalker of ever!... at this given moment... But seriously, where is everyone on this thread? I expected to see some profress and some hilarity in the time i've been away and there has been... seriously, I've either too drunk or too disintersted to continue what I'm saying. More, I say! I hope to do my part
  2. My first CD I ever got was the Bulls' Hits Volume II (or whatever it was called). It was back in the mid '90s when Jock Jams was huge so the Bulls tried to cash in. In between songs they had audio from big games ("A shot on Ehlo, it's good! The Bulls win it, they win it!"). That was the best CD ever, shooting hoops in my driveway.
  3. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Oct 10, 2009 -> 08:06 PM) Nick Johnson should never, ever play the field if signed. I agree. I live in DC, and just last night I heard some guys in a booth behind me at a bar talking about how the Nats can probably only flip him to an AL team because everyone knows he can field a lick.
  4. QUOTE (Thunderbolt @ Oct 3, 2009 -> 10:24 PM) IF we sweep the Tigers, i can't help but leave with a good taste in my mouth. Yeah, it sucks about the playoffs. but we're making it next year. Of that, i have no doubt in my mind. I feel weird thinking about this, but I almost want tp lose to Detroit tomorrow so Minny doesn't make the playoffs. This is due in part to the fact that I can't bear to see the Twinks with even a chance to win a WS, but also because I believe Detroit is a better team and has a better chance at winning the WS... part of me would like to see the AL Central do well in the playoffs to justify our poor season. My thinking is that if the division came down to one final game and the winner of the Central plays well in the playoffs, it shows that maybe the Central just beat up on each other (I know in reality that the division was very weak but wishful thinking). Bottom line, I want the division to have a good showing in the playoffs but I don't want the Twins to do anything. And if the Central representative does fair well in the playoffs, they'll obviously be set up to be considered highly for contention next year which will make it all the better when we beat them (Detroit/Minn.) to win the division next year. And yes I'm aware that pre-season rankings don't have any real affect on the season (see: Cleveland) but it's all just a way to feel better about the team.
  5. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 28, 2009 -> 11:16 PM) Willingham just finished his first arb-eligible year, I believe he has 2 more. Nyjer Morgan is still at least 1 year pre-arbitration, and would be a league minimum guy next season. Has less than 2 years of service time. Note to self: talk of the Nats is an apparent thread killer. Sorry to be the buzz kill, it's probably never a positive thing saying that we could benefit by raiding the Nats.
  6. Reprising my role as a good Chicagolander in my last nights in Chicago. After spending two months in DC looking for work and housing, it feels good to come back and get drunk in the Central time zone one last time and have an extra hour to work with. Salutations Chicago, I will continue to drink in your honor... every night of the week.
  7. How about a couple Nats? I would love to see Nyjer Morgan or Josh Willingham. Anyone know what their contract situations look like?
  8. QUOTE (ChiSox_Sonix @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 04:45 PM) Pedro wasn't even healthy is April IIRC I thought Pedro pitched in the WBC...? And I thought he pitched quite well but still no one picked him up? I was under the impression that the issue was that he was just asking for too much money from everyone.
  9. QUOTE (jhonnydanks @ Sep 14, 2009 -> 09:40 PM) don't stop believing get it get it Jhonny's back for good luck! I'm buying my playoff tickets.
  10. QUOTE (oldsox @ Sep 10, 2009 -> 07:43 PM) The Rockies did it two years ago. They won their last 14-15 games or so, tied San Diego, beat Peavy in a one game playoff, went the the WS. My immediate response to that was "yeah, but they were in the super weak NL West"... and then I thought about the Central...
  11. What erp, figured I should reprise my role of drunkenness.
  12. Still looking... I moved out to DC 1 month ago in search of a job in politics. I've handed out or submitted over 100 resumes. Everyone I talk to out here for informational interviews says I'm "more than qualified for such and such" and to keep looking.
  13. QUOTE (Balta1701 @ Sep 2, 2009 -> 06:19 PM) Can anyone think of anything that has happened on the Sox this year that has cost the starters wins? There might have been a couple games lost in the 9th inning, I can't really remember...
  14. Hey remember when I said we would take 3, maybe sweep Boston? Because Boston was 'off' and their pitching was slacking? Well, looks like our face was the spring board they needed. Yeah, that prediction sucked. Maybe I should pay more attention to the doom-and-gloomers...
  15. Thankfully JD got some love on this month's wallpaper because it looks like he was thrown into this pic as an afterthought. It's like they tried to hide the black guy behind the whitest players we can put on the field.
  16. QUOTE (Chisoxfn @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 10:19 PM) Viciedo is the 1st base prospect of the future. It is why Allen was much more expendable than some would have liked. Beckham is the 3b of the present and future. Ramirez the SS of the present and future. I think that prediction is going to upset a lot of people on the board but I imagine it is the most likely, barring a big move for a big 1B
  17. I love how Hawk was JUST talking about how we can come back when they get out to an early lead. You can almost hear the period at the end of his last sentence right before the crack of the bat from Kubel.
  18. QUOTE (witesoxfan @ Aug 31, 2009 -> 05:45 PM) ASSHOLE THANKS FOR MAKING THE WHITE SOX LOSE What made that so much funnier was that I envisioned the baby in your avy yelling that phrase. Perfect.
  19. QUOTE (Disco72 @ Aug 30, 2009 -> 07:46 PM) At least something involving Linebrink would have a happy ending... Simply awesome. On the topic of getting rid of Javy and Swish, can someone remind me: did we have an opportunity to not bring Jose back this past off-season?
  20. Anyone else have little faith in Nix's at-bat right now? I admit I love seeing him at the plate, just not with RISP and 2 out. Based on absolutely no stats but it feels like he never comes through in the clutch Edit: It's looking up, Hughes is a first pitch fastballer and Nix is Nix... Edit2: Lame.
  21. Looked like Gordo had a beat on that the whole way, wonder what happened...
  22. Already a better offensive and defensive day than yesterday. And then there's Freddy...
  23. Good thing Scott legged that out for 3. Had he stayed at 2nd, we would've squandered a lead-off double again.
  24. That's the way to start this game off! Now assuming Scotty doesn't get picked off, we have 3 chances. To get him in.
